The Extra's Role is Too My Taste (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
“How?”
Was last night that memorable? Was that why she was dreaming of him?
Brody blinked, staring at Grand Duke Icewall’s cold expression.
“We’re going back.”
At the deep, low voice cutting through the silence, goosebumps rose on Brody’s arms.
So this was reality, she realized.
Before Brody could do anything, the Grand Duke swiftly lifted her up.
Brody’s slender body dangled over the Grand Duke’s broad shoulder like laundry.
“Did he really come to fetch me—a mere prisoner? Why? And how?”
She briefly considered using her ability to escape, but quickly realized her position was far too disadvantageous.
Despite fleeing so thoroughly, he had tracked her down again in such a short time.
Moreover, he hadn’t even brought a single attendant—meaning he had come alone.
Brody now harbored a reasonable suspicion: could the Grand Duke himself possess some unique ability?
In the novel, he had been a minor extra who died immediately after appearing, so there was almost no information about him.
Thus, it seemed safer to quietly allow herself to be captured again and attempt another escape later, just like before.
Without offering any explanation, the Grand Duke carried Brody over his shoulder and descended the forest path.
Could a human really move this quickly?
He raced down the mountain as swiftly and gracefully as a deer.
Dangling upside down from his shoulder, swaying violently with every step and her face facing the ground, blood rushed to her head until she nearly passed out.
“No way—you saved my life only to repay my kindness with cruelty?!”
Intimidated by Grand Duke Icewall’s menacing aura, Brody couldn’t voice those words aloud and merely shot the thought inwardly.
Of course, she couldn’t very well say, “I came to kill you but changed my mind,” so it wasn’t as if she’d ever be able to say it anyway.
In just about two hours, he managed to cover the same distance Brody had spent all day running and returned to camp.
His advisors and soldiers stared in stunned silence as the Grand Duke strode in, carrying the escaped prisoner slung over his shoulder like a hunted beast.
Upon reaching his tent, Grand Duke Icewall carefully set Brody down.
“Seriously? You only handle me gently after we’ve already arrived?”
The moment her feet touched the ground, Brody collapsed where she stood, unable to remain upright.
Her head spun and throbbed while her stomach churned—she couldn’t decide which to worry about more.
But her stomach swiftly declared a strike, ending her dilemma.
She promptly vomited up the sweet potatoes she’d eaten that day.
Seeing this, Grand Duke Icewall panicked and began patting her back.
But failing to control his strength, his touch caused Brody’s frail body to wobble, which only made him more flustered.
“First you hurt me, then you try to help?”
Unconsciously, Brody looked up at him with resentful eyes. Tears had gathered at the corners of her eyes from all the retching.
“Bring Mrs. Murphy!”
Sweating profusely, the Grand Duke turned to his aide. The aide gave a knowing smirk—as if witnessing something truly fascinating—nodded, and stepped outside.
Soon, a stout, seemingly stern woman entered. She appeared to be one of the people who’d bathed Brody the previous day as a captive.
With the woman’s support, Brody got up, was quickly wiped down with a damp cloth, and then laid onto a bed.
Not just any bed—but the one inside the Grand Duke’s own tent.
“What’s this? So he doesn’t plan to kill me after all. Then I guess he captured me because he needs something from me.”
But no matter the reason, Brody lacked even the strength to lift a finger.
“If you’re planning to execute me today, just drag me off or throw me in a palanquin—either way, I can’t take a single step!” she thought, closing her eyes.
She truly understood now what it meant to be so exhausted one felt close to death.
[This is the timeline separator]This morning’s events.
That is, the morning after Brody escaped—and after Grand Duke Icewall, Aidan Mason, had slept soundly and awakened.
“Where is the woman?”
Only then, upon hearing his aide’s question, did Grand Duke Icewall—Aidan Mason—become certain that last night’s events hadn’t been a dream.
“Could she have escaped?”
“Excuse me? Escaped? But the guards outside your tent never left their posts!”

“Yet she’s clearly not here. Unless last night never actually happened—or someone took her.”
“Wait—you, Your Highness, who’s famously light of sleep, didn’t notice a woman escaping right beside you? What on earth happened last night?”
The aide asked, sounding bewildered.
The Duke’s suggestion that “someone took her” was instantly dismissed in the aide’s mind.
After all, the Duke normally sent away the female prisoner brought into his tent the previous night before breakfast.
If anyone wanted to target the woman for personal desires, that would have been the perfect opportunity—there’d be no need to go through the trouble of secretly abducting her.
Thus, the aide concluded the woman must have escaped—but was even more shocked that the Duke hadn’t noticed it happen.
Moreover, from the moment he entered the tent and saw the Duke, he’d sensed a strange unease.
He was still pondering what might be causing it when the Duke muttered under his breath.
“She’s gone.”
“Pardon?”
“Do you believe it, River? My headache is gone.”
The aide’s eyes widened at the unexpected words coming from the Duke.
Now that he looked closely, the Duke’s forehead—which had always been creased with deep lines from chronic headaches—appeared relaxed.
It was an expression the aide had never seen before, and he suddenly realized: *Ah, so this strange sense of dissonance was because his headache is gone!*
“I must find her.”
Suddenly, the Grand Duke sprang to his feet.
“Yes… Wait, you mean you’re going to search for the escaped woman yourself?”
The aide couldn’t believe his ears. Until now, the Duke had treated every woman brought to him with utter indifference—so much so that people suspected something might be wrong with him physically.
The situation in the North was dire, and the Duke bore an excessive sense of responsibility.
Was he losing his mind from the constant stress of war and headaches? The aide grew worried.
“If he just held a woman close, maybe he’d relax a little.”
It had been the aide himself who’d conceived the plan, persuaded the Duke, and arranged for a different woman to be sent into his tent each night.
Annoyed by persistent nagging, the Duke had eventually relented—but consistently sent them away untouched, without even brushing a single strand of their hair.
“Does he truly not care at all—or is he simply the epitome of patience?”
Just as the aide had begun to wonder whether it might be better for the Duke’s mental health to stop sending women altogether, this bizarre incident occurred.
“She’ll be back by the end of today.”
With that declaration, Grand Duke Icewall—Aidan—stepped out of the tent.
“Your Highness! What about today’s duties?”
“You’ll handle them yourself.”
Whoosh. And just like that, the Grand Duke vanished like the wind.
Watching his retreating back, the aide unconsciously gaped.
No way—was *the* Grand Duke really abandoning his duties to chase after someone? Was this even possible?
Glancing skyward—half-expecting to see the sun rise from the west—he sighed and shook his head.
[This is the timeline separator]“This is unacceptable! Keeping an unknown woman by your side? Consider your safety, Your Highness!”
“Wasn’t she the one you sent in? You were eager enough to bring her in—why object now?”
“Spending one night is entirely different from keeping her by you every day! Besides, this is a woman who successfully escaped! We must investigate who she really is and what her intentions are.”
“You were the one who insisted I bring in a woman, and I myself am the one who recaptured her. If she truly had ill intentions, she would’ve killed me by now instead of running away. Why suspect someone who passed up the chance to kill me when they had it?”
“Well…”
“And regardless, my headache disappearing is a fact. If this outcome happened because of something she did—intentionally or not—we must find out how.”
Chief of Staff River, who had been trying to dissuade the Duke, fell silent, seemingly agreeing with that reasoning.
He knew better than anyone just how terrible the Duke’s headaches had been.
“Very well. But please don’t mention anything about your pain to her—it won’t do any good. I’ll look into her identity. Please, be careful.”
Grand Duke Icewall nodded.
At the sound of a commotion, Brody slowly opened her eyes.
Instead of her familiar ceiling, an unfamiliar tent ceiling came into view.
“Oh no…”
Though her eyes were open, every inch of her body ached too much for her to sit up.
As she turned only her head and eyes to survey her surroundings, a familiar face soon entered her sight.

“Grand Duke Icewall!”
Her heart sank as she looked at him.
“Is he angry…?”
He stared at her with a deeply furrowed brow—as if he’d never worn that calm expression from before.
“You’re awake.”
“…Yes… uh.”
“I’m sorry about yesterday. I didn’t realize that position was so uncomfortable.”
“…”
What? Was he joking? Brody scowled, thinking she’d love to return the favor—if only it were possible.
Of course, it wasn’t. There was no way frail Brody could carry this massive Grand Duke over her shoulder and run roughly for over two hours.
Still scowling, Brody asked,
“Why did you bring me back?”
Having clearly received strict instructions from his aide, Duke Aidan refrained from mentioning his “headache.”
“I want to drink the tea you made the other night again.”
“Huh? Tea?”
Surely not—had he really recaptured her just because the tea tasted so good?
No, that couldn’t be it. He still had the tea leaves—couldn’t he just brew it himself or ask someone else?
Unless… maybe he’d simply enjoyed that night too much?
“Hmm… well…”
But that possibility was just as troubling.
“I only meant for it to be one night…!”
Nevertheless, Brody knew she couldn’t show how flustered she felt. After all, she had to survive the notoriously cruel Grand Duke and find another chance to escape.
“Have something to eat first.”
Though the Duke said this, Brody remained lying down.
“No appetite?”
“…No. I just can’t get up.”
Her expression clearly conveyed the unspoken words: *Whose fault is that?*
Looking slightly embarrassed, the Duke sat on the bed, slid a hand behind her neck, and gently propped her up.
He was supporting her.
His sudden closeness brought last night’s memory rushing back—Brody blushed in surprise.
Whether he noticed her inner turmoil or not, the Duke picked up the tray from the table and approached her.
“Given the circumstances, I couldn’t prepare anything fancy. Please forgive me.”
It was a steaming bowl of soup. The sight of cooked food made Brody’s mouth water.
After days of mental and physical exhaustion—and having vomited everything she ate yesterday—she was absolutely starving.
She realized her weakness might simply be from having eaten nothing at all and welcomed the meal gratefully.
With trembling hands, Brody finished every last bite. Feeling slightly reenergized, she noticed the Duke watching her with a certain look in his eyes.
It was as if to say: *Now that you’ve eaten, get to work.*
“Hmm… so he really did bring me back just to make tea?”
Well, even with the same tea leaves, different people brewed vastly different flavors.
Someone like Brody, who handled herbs so skillfully, was rare—perhaps this was the first time he’d tasted tea this delicious.
“Could the Duke be a gourmet?”
Still bewildered, Brody carefully prepared and brought him the tea.
Aidan accepted the teacup with an expectant gaze.
Yet that evening, his hope turned to disappointment.
“This doesn’t seem right.”
He phrased it as gently as he could,
but seeing his knitted brow filled Brody with dread.
“I brewed it exactly the same… the only difference was… ‘Meshu’… Could he really want that?”
Meshu, when carefully dosed, was a safe insomnia remedy that wouldn’t strain the body. But even if it was safe, was it really ethical to deliberately administer it to someone?
Brody hesitated—but upon seeing the deep shadow cast over Grand Duke Icewall’s fierce brow, she didn’t hesitate a second time.

“I can’t die like this. He’s asking for it himself! And besides—he certainly looked relaxed and healthier after sleeping deeply that one night!”
Thus, Brody served him the same amount of Meshu.
The Duke’s pupils softened as he sipped the tea contentedly.
And once again, under Meshu’s influence, he stayed awake—blinking drowsily and swaying unsteadily.
“Ugh! This is insane!”
Supporting Aidan as he wobbled just like on that previous night, Brody sank into deep thought: *What on earth am I supposed to do about this?*
But this time, the Duke clumsily dragged himself—and Brody—toward the bed.
“What? Again?!”
So it really wasn’t about the tea—was he just fond of the sleeping arrangement?
Enough to chase down and recapture someone, despite his habit of changing women daily?
Aidan flopped Brody down onto the bed.
