“Those who spread the rumors and those who heard them are now dead. The truth about me briefly surfaced, then vanished, leaving only false whispers—‘the flower of the Wittelo ducal house,’ ‘Duke Wittelo’s most cherished youngest daughter.’”
Lisi paused briefly, lowering her gaze.
Her thick eyelashes, the same color as her hair, concealed the emotions in her eyes.
“Duke Wittelo agreed to hand me over to Viscount Fuchs in exchange for a gold mine. I refused. So I came to Count Green.”
“Why… of all people?”
“Because I believed Count Green would help me.”
“Why would you think that? Kai’s the sort of boy who’s never shown interest in girls.”
“I wrote to Count…”
“A letter.”
Kai cut off Lisi’s words.
He’d guessed she was about to confess, ‘I know the Count’s weakness!’

“I’m sorry I didn’t inform you sooner.”
“That’s not something you should apologize for.”
Heraina said, fixing Kai with a sharp look.
Kai gave a small, sheepish grin.
“I’m sorry, Mother. Father.”
“We’ll leave shortly. You two go ahead.”
“Yes, then we’ll take our leave first, Countess Green.”
“Lisi.”
“Yes?”
“You’re not ‘Countess Green.’”
“Then…?”
“I heard you’ve already registered your marriage—wouldn’t it be fine to call me ‘Mother’?”
Lisi’s eyes widened, then she beamed brightly.
“Yes, Mother.”
The moment Lisi and Kai left, Heraina turned to her husband.
“What made you take a liking to Lisi the moment you saw her?”
“She appears to anyone as a delicate, refined lady…”
A smile spread across Wyvern’s lips.

His warm, teasing breath slipped through her hair.
His lips still touching her, he whispered,

The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
