I stared blankly at Ileina, unable to tell whether she was being serious or joking.

I was frightened by how genuinely she seemed to think Shuri was cute. That bear-like build—where on earth did she see “cute” in that? It wasn’t cute; it was intimidating.

“That huge build… is cute?”

“The bigger, the cuter. Is it that being cute makes it big? Either way, it already stands out so much because of its size—imagine how visible that cuteness must be!”

Just as I was utterly at a loss for how to respond to her incomprehensible statement, a steward fortunately called for me, announcing the start of the investiture ceremony.

Ileina encouraged me to do well and silently mouthed, “Don’t grab him by the scruff—no matter what,” which made me burst into laughter.

Seeing the steward eyeing me curiously, I quickly composed my expression.

The steward guided me through a door connected to a spot near the dais where the Emperor sat.

‘Incredible…’

Elegantly adorned nobles crowded together, craning their necks this way and that to get a look at me.

Had the Carlobanian Empire always had this many nobles?

Though the long red carpet beneath my feet stretched barely five meters, it felt as if it went on endlessly.

Someone shy and easily overwhelmed might have fainted right on the spot. My worry about whether I could even reach the end of that carpet soon shifted to concern over whether I’d trip on my way there.

So focused was I on not stepping on my dress hem that I soon arrived at the foot of the dais where the Emperor sat.

‘If I’ve made it this far, I’ve done more than half of it.’
