It was right in the middle of the performance. The opera was building toward its climax. We were immersed in the rare experience of a single voice filling not just the stage but the entire opera house—when suddenly, an interruption broke in.

Because I was seated where the box seats were clearly visible, I turned my head and saw that chaos had erupted in the box seat where Prince Daniel had been sitting.

Originally, only Prince Daniel and another man had been seated there, but now men and women alike crowded the space, creating a noisy commotion.

“What’s going on?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never heard such a loud disturbance during a performance before…”

Not just Ileina and me, but all the audience members’ gazes had shifted from the stage to the box seat above.
