People clinging to the railing outside turned the opera into chaos. The opera singer eventually came down from the stage.

It wasn’t just the halted performance—people beneath the railing started fleeing in panic. After all, with someone dangling right above their heads, ready to fall at any moment, no one could remain calmly seated.

The theater instantly became pandemonium. Those trying to evacuate and those determined to watch the commotion became hopelessly tangled, leaving everyone stuck—unable to move forward or back.

Ileina asked me anxiously whether we should leave.

At least we were fortunate enough to be seated in the center of the auditorium, far from the box seats and the densely packed areas, giving us a clear view of the unfolding situation.

“Moving now might only make things worse.”

Besides, both Ileina and I had worn long, voluminous formal gowns. They were lovely, but in such chaos, a single step could mean someone stepping on our hems—and serious injury.

“Oh my! That looks dangerous!”

Already, people were being shoved and tripping over one another. Staff from the opera house had come out to restore order, but their numbers were clearly insufficient to handle the crisis.

“Oh! The man hanging there—I recognize him. It’s Sir Pravo.”

“Sir Pravo? No, wait—where did that come from?”

Ileina was scanning the box seats with her opera glasses. She handed me another pair.

Though I could already see the situation clearly from where we sat—and thus didn’t really need them—I accepted them absentmindedly since she offered them so insistently.

“Now that I think about it, I remembered to bring opera glasses but completely forgot I had them! I always carry them to the opera because I see close-up things clearly but struggle with distant ones. I even brought one for Claire just in case.”
