Please Break Up with Me, I Beg! (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
Orbis rubbed his fingertips against my eyelids, then lightly touched Litania’s.
“This will be fine.”
“What’s changed?”
“I’ve cast a spell to lower others’ perception of us. Now, those who don’t know us will find it hard to notice us, and even if they do, they’ll forget us shortly after.”
He hadn’t uttered a spell, nor had light or smoke appeared—yet simply rubbing our eyelids with his fingers made this happen?
…As if to mock my doubt, the two of them seamlessly blended into the crowd.
‘It actually works.’
Though Orbis’s tall stature made passersby flinch and step aside, none stared in awe or gasped at his beauty—clearly, the magic was effective.
This was Litania’s first time attending a village festival.
When she had been dragged outside so suddenly, she had thought she might die. But after surviving several close calls, she was now quite accustomed to the situation. Litania was slightly surprised to discover Orbis was so familiar with street festivals.
‘He looks like someone who wouldn’t even touch food unless it was served at a royal banquet…’
He’d claimed to have no interest in humans, but perhaps one shouldn’t take a dragon’s casual words about human entertainment at face value. I’d assumed he’d only be comfortable with grand natural landscapes, not this kind of scene.
“But Orbis, I don’t have any money.”
“I do, so it’s fine.”
“You know street vendors don’t deal in jewels or gold coins, right?”
“Of course I do.”
Litania nearly spat out her tongue when she saw he even knew how to order and pay for food from a street stall.
‘Is he really enjoying this human life?’
Litania accepted the piece of meat pie Orbis handed her. She peeled back a corner of the thin paper wrapping and bit into it—immediately, the rich, savory aroma of street food mingled with bold spices.
‘Ah, this taste is nostalgic.’
Even as a neglected princess, she received sufficiently high-quality meals from the palace—but she had never tasted the intense, overpowering flavors unique to cheap street fare.
The exquisite combination of rich meat and buttery pastry moved her slightly.
She suddenly understood why people deliberately sought out unhealthy food. It was simply too tempting to resist.
“This is delicious, Orbis.”
“Because it’s what you like.”
“Huh?”
Had she ever told Orbis about her food preferences? Confused, she asked again, and he shrugged.
“I just felt that way. That’s all.”
Could dragons read human hearts?
“You like it? The meat pie?”
“…I like it because it’s delicious. Though if I ate it often, I’d probably harm my health.”
“Eating only healthy food doesn’t guarantee a longer life. It’s better to do what you want.”
To a dragon, whether a human lived long or died young probably made no difference.
‘Actually… that’s not wrong.’
In reality, some people live long despite doing everything they’re told not to—and others die young even while carefully caring for their bodies.
‘But isn’t the point of being human to want to live longer and healthier?’
Without becoming crippled, without dying at a dragon’s hand.
“It must be nice. You can do anything you want.”
Live long, wield powerful magic, hold the title of Divine Dragon—free to do as you please in the human world.
It’s the luxury of someone who already has everything. Nothing like my situation, where even leaving the castle requires the Emperor’s permission.
‘…Well, since Orbis practically kidnapped me out of the palace today, it’s fine.’
Litania swallowed the last bite of pie and glanced at Orbis’s hands. They were empty.
‘I’ve definitely seen him eating before… when did he eat it?’
When she looked up at him, wide-eyed, he smiled faintly.
“One wasn’t enough? What would you like next?”
“Huh? Um… that one over there.”
Litania pointed impulsively at the skewer stall across the way.
A red canopy hung above the stall, with a hand-painted sign reading: “Explosive Tropical Flavor.”
Skewers of grilled meat and vegetables drenched in thick sauce were a common sight in any world, so the low challenge level helped.
“Here you go, Litania.”
Trending
“Thank you.”
For a moment, she felt like a child begging for snacks from a parent—but her stomach was honest.
Litania quickly bit into the skewer.
And moments later, screamed silently inside her head.
‘It’s spicy!’
“Explosive tropical flavor” apparently meant her mouth would explode.
She couldn’t spit it out, so she clenched her lips shut, trembling.
“Litania? Why are you like that?”
“…!”
Peace, as they say, is fleeting. A war raged inside her mouth—meat, vegetables, and sauce clashing violently.
Determined to swallow it and end the torment, she gulped it down.
The burning sensation in her throat faded quickly, but her lips and tongue throbbed, bringing tears to her eyes.
“It’s too….”
“Litania?”
“It’s too… spicy.”
The so-called “tropical flavor” made the air feel like a tropical climate. As Litania reached to wipe sweat from her forehead, a gloved hand gently cupped it.
Whether Orbis’s body was naturally cool or not, her forehead felt instantly cooler, the spice slightly soothed.
“Orbis, thank—”
“Shall I kill him?”
Litania nearly bit her tongue from a sudden hiccup.
“Huh?”
“He made you suffer.”
By “him,” he clearly meant the vendor who sold the skewers.
“No! No, you’re crazy!”
Just because the sign said “Explosive Tropical Flavor” doesn’t mean it’s grounds for murder. It might be exaggerated advertising, but it’s not worth killing over.
“Why would you kill someone over something like this?”
“He made you suffer.”
“No, this was an accident! It’s not his fault!”
Litania felt her heart pounding harder than when she swallowed the spicy sauce. Her whole body felt flushed.
“You shouldn’t kill people so easily.”
Her voice trembled. Orbis closed his eyes briefly, then opened them and sighed. His expression softened slightly.
“Did I seem cruel?”
“….”
More than cruel—it was terrifying.
“I… don’t know.”
I really don’t know.
Why would such a dangerous, beautiful dragon fixate on a single human? Why is he gentle only with Litania, whom he’s barely spoken to?
Litania feared Orbis—but her desire to understand him was stronger.
She couldn’t fathom what this higher being, mimicking humanity, truly wanted.
Or rather—why, when he could do anything he pleased, did he go out of his way to accommodate her?
“Why are you trying so hard to please me?”
“Because I want to marry you.”
“No, I mean… why propose to me?”
According to Orbis, falling in love at first sight was common.
It was less common for that to lead straight to marriage—but he wasn’t human, so perhaps it wasn’t impossible.
Yet there was a more fundamental question.
‘Why me?’
She didn’t understand. Was it because the original story was vague?
“Our worlds are different. I thought marriage was the only way to bind us together.”
Divine Dragon and a despised fake princess—among humans, perhaps a noble and a maid.

If he believed such a relationship could never gain others’ acceptance without marriage, she could understand.
If he wanted, he could decide her fate at will—so why come to her, ask her out, and court her favor? She could accept that as trying to win her over.
‘But.’
It still felt incomplete. The reason was too thin.
“I’m the one who should ask you, Litania.”
“What?”
“Why do you hate me so much?”
At Orbis’s words, Litania flinched.
‘Did I show it so clearly?’
Yes, she had. Her terrified rejection of his proposal, her serious reactions to his jokes, her constant pushing him away—
She pushed him away because she knew from the original story that Orbis was violent.
But from his perspective, he’d done nothing—and yet she rejected him so fiercely. He must find it strange.
“I… don’t hate you.”
That was true. She didn’t hate him. She was afraid.
“You’d rather die than marry me.”
“Huh? No, it’s not that bad!”
If I had to choose between dying right now or marrying and living in the future—I’d choose the latter. Even if the future is bleak.
‘Surely he’s not going to kill me just because I refused his proposal?’
Even a monster has limits.
“It’s true, Orbis.”
“Then why did you reject me so strongly?”
Because you’ll one day turn me into a cripple and kill me.
…But she couldn’t say that. So she carefully chose her words.
“I’m human. I’ll die… much sooner than you.”

I hope she learns her lesson from that day and doesn’t think about entering the tower
Umm, things have gotten even more embarrassing. I don’t know what to say. (T∀T)
Their relationship has developed fairly well and smoothly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they truly fell in love, but I’m afraid something bad might happen at the festival.
