The moment I stepped on the stone floor of the guest palace, made of thick gray and brown stones, a sound I had never heard before came from beyond the window carved into the wall as I left the main palace.

The two of us quickly stopped walking and crouched low beside the bushes, hiding ourselves.

‘The servants were so quiet, but knights are rough, so maybe that’s why they make so much noise even when sleeping.’

As a human, I was the source of the noise, but Litania, unaware of the servants’ true nature, assumed the knights simply made more noise because they were larger and stronger.

“This way, Princess Litania.”

“Hmm.”

When we circled behind the guest palace, indeed, as Vane had said, there was an entrance to the tower on the outside. I had thought there was only one path, but it seems I was wrong.

Whether the servants truly maintained it or not, the old tower, unlike before, clearly bore the marks of time yet appeared neat and orderly.

The gray stones, cracked and worn with age, lacked vivid color, but perhaps because it was night, they seemed mysteriously like ancient silver wood.

As Litania admired the tower’s appearance, resembling an ancient ruin that had crossed time, she turned her head at Snow’s call. The boy had already opened the tower door and was gesturing to her.

“Staying outside too long will draw attention.”

“Sorry. I couldn’t help but stare, as if enchanted.”

Previously, I had only seen it as an old tower, but perhaps because of the rumors, even climbing the stairs felt different. The steps had no cracked stones, and the clean railings gave off the polished grain of aged furniture.

“There it is.”

The two climbers stopped before a door made of oak. It still looked sturdy and ancient.
