Even back then, that rumor had been muttered by a drunken man alone to his wife, and given that nowadays almost no one openly gossips about it, it seems the tale had only quietly spread among taverns and some Imperial citizens.

Perhaps Sasha, having come forward to protect Freyrie and forming a temporary alliance with me, had let it naturally die down on his own.

I’ve never received a clear confirmation that Freyrie was behind the western coastal region, nor have I ever directly asked if it was true.

Yet later, through information gathered via Miranda and Hailey, I noticed the exact moment rumors about the western coast abruptly ceased coincided perfectly with the timing of our alliance—leading me to conclude, “So it really was you two all along.”

Moreover, on the day we went to see the “Tears of the Stars,” Sasha practically laid everything bare in our conversation, making it easy to guess. When I asked if I needed Freyrie, he neither affirmed nor denied it outright.

‘If you already know everything, why ask? Are you teasing me?’

He even admitted it himself, calling himself merely an insignificant creature who’d received a fragment of a soul granted by the universe in his past life.

‘Ah, right!’

And then it struck me like lightning.

The fleeting thought I’d had while still in the Imperial Capital before leaving home now coalesced in my mind into a solid shape, taking human form and shouting that this was my chance.

It was telling me this was the perfect moment to scrape Freyrie’s nerves raw—like dragging cat claws across them—just as he would surely confront me later for answers!

“But…once those people lose their families, they won’t be able to enjoy even these small, simple joys anymore.”

Even if Freyrie eventually clears up the misunderstanding, I’m not certain he’ll side with me. It doesn’t matter whether he decides to join my side or not. Ideally, having him as an ally would be wonderful—but at the very least, I must avoid becoming his enemy if I’m to safely pass through the “Primordial Gate” and meet God.

So I decided to subtly signal that I knew his true identity—doing so indirectly enough that Carlisle, right next to me, wouldn’t understand.

Unless he’s a fool, he’d inwardly flinch at those words, outwardly maintain composure, yet grow uneasy—and then angry—upon sensing that someone knew his secret. He’d demand how I’d discovered his identity and, while suspecting my reasons for bringing him into the Imperial Capital despite knowing, would push me to say it aloud myself.
