What a peculiar fellow. Though I was baffled, the offer cost me nothing to accept, so I eagerly agreed. I promptly climbed onto Jeff’s shoulders and wrapped both arms tightly around his head. Falling off would mean hitting the back of my skull first—dangerous—so while savoring the thrill, I carefully kept my balance to avoid injury.

Throughout this, even when I tugged at his hair, Jeff didn’t flinch in pain; instead, he grinned idiotically, saying it reminded him of old times. When I mentioned how he used to crawl around the study carpet with me on his back, I blushed and said I was too grown-up for that now, and Jeff insisted he’d still do it if I wanted—but I told him it wasn’t necessary.

‘It’s nice not having to walk, but his shoulders are all muscle—terrible ride quality.’
