‘Normally, these things are built to glorify the current emperor’s dignity and honor.’

I smiled awkwardly and thought to myself.

If they absolutely had to use me as a model, why not imagine my majestic future self as emperor and cast a golden statue of that? Or, if they insisted on my childhood likeness, at least depict me in the ceremonial robes I wore on the day my status as heir was publicly proclaimed. Either way, it left me feeling somewhat disappointed.

Since they were spending money anyway, they could’ve considered efficiency—was it really necessary to drain the national treasury on something like this? I nearly clicked my tongue aloud in exasperation.

It reminded me of my past life as emperor, when ministers once argued over whether to build a statue in the capital to commemorate my achievements—some insisting on bronze, others on silver, and a few stubbornly claiming gold was the only worthy material. I’d been so baffled that I’d explicitly ordered my subordinates not to waste money on such things even after my death.

Jeff, who served as my right-hand man back then, had quickly shut the discussion down by solemnly declaring, “His Majesty has made his wishes clear,” which had been such a relief. Hecate had backed him up as well, and the ministers—who suddenly found themselves caught between the two—had yelped like scolded dogs and hurriedly clamped their mouths shut, rushing to move on to the next agenda item.

‘Carlisle needs to grow up to be as capable as Jeff someday.’

Regaining the lands, mansion, and authority of the Bergamot family would be no small feat, and numerous obstacles lay ahead—but I knew he’d rise to the challenge. I’d already laid the groundwork for him, and he’d never been content to stay idle in his place.

‘Hurry up and grow so you can properly assist me when I become emperor.’

I glanced at Carlisle and then turned my head, sensing someone approaching. It was Eshian—the man who served as Jeff’s aide yet remained frustratingly difficult to meet in person. I hadn’t seen him once since he’d returned from escorting Lilith, but he looked just the same.

I’d heard he was so busy juggling various tasks that he often wished he had two bodies; his presence on this outing suggested it must have been planned well in advance.

“Already worrying about the national treasury! Your devotion to the nation fills me with deep admiration.”

Eshian approached with a pleased smile, deliberately omitting the honorific “Your Highness” in an effort to keep my identity discreet. His careful choice of words, the way he avoided speaking too loudly, and how he subtly leaned in close to whisper—everything revealed his conscious effort to prevent my status from being exposed.
