At the boy’s loyal statement, Harold shrugged and leaned back against the windowsill. The crimson sunset, as if painted in watercolor, poured over his shoulder.

“There’s no need for that. I’m assigning you to her not to monitor her every move.”

“Huh?”

She had naturally assumed that was the reason—so it wasn’t? Both Emily and the boy stared at Harold, utterly bewildered.

“You just loyally stay by the viscountess’s side. If anyone tries to lure or threaten you with money or strange offers, pretend to side with them and let me know.”

“Really… is that all I need to do?”

He’d just tasked him with double-agent work that even adults would find difficult, yet the boy asked if that was truly enough. Harold chuckled softly and nodded.

“Yes. If you faithfully follow what I just said, I’ll take care of your parents.”

“Please… kill my parents.”
