My Mistress Became My Wife (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 66
Lily immediately contacted the agency, eager to hire a personal maid as soon as possible. The agency staff readily replied that they would visit in person with resumes by the afternoon, and indeed arrived around 3 p.m.
“Here are the resumes you requested.”
Lily examined the resumes handed to her by the staff member. Maid experience mattered, but even more important was the salary. Since Samantha had said she couldn’t offer more than 10 shillings, it was difficult to match the average wage for a personal maid. There was also a limit to what she could personally supplement.
Thus, she needed a maid who would work diligently despite accepting less pay. Recognizing how unreasonable this sounded even to herself, Lily chuckled softly as she skimmed through the resumes. She checked them thoroughly, hoping against hope, but found no candidate meeting her requirements.
“No maid catches your eye, madam?”
Noticing Lily silently flipping through the documents without comment, the staff member asked with concern.
“No, there are many I like, but their requested salaries are far too high.”
“I apologize for saying this, madam, but if you truly desire a personal maid, you must be prepared to pay at least that amount.”
Instead of replying that she understood, Lily returned the documents and asked,
“Could I see resumes of maids requesting less than this amount?”
“It is possible… but then they’d be unsuitable as personal maids. A lower salary usually indicates a lack of proficiency in duties.”
“That’s fine.”
She could gradually train their skills. Right now, she needed a trustworthy maid more than one with exceptional competence—someone reliable enough not to be swayed by Frederick and Samantha’s underhanded schemes.
“Please wait a moment.”
The staff member rummaged through his bag, seemingly searching for resumes matching her criteria. Glancing inside, Lily noticed a stack of papers nearly as thick as an encyclopedia.
