The sharp nib of the pen danced across the paper, its quiet sound echoing serenely through the room. It had been a long time since Lily had held a pen, due to Harold’s stern warning not to work until he was fully recovered.

Aside from the first two days—when she’d lost consciousness from high fever—her condition had improved enough that she felt capable of working again. Even the physician had said it was fine as long as she didn’t overexert herself, yet Harold still refused to permit it.

“It’s better to rest thoroughly and recover your condition completely than to take a half-hearted break and fall ill again.”

Hearing that, Lily had no choice but to obey. She resolved to use this forced rest to fully recuperate her exhausted body and mind.

She’d need to look up the meaning. Lily jotted down only those sentences requiring further investigation.

Lily stared blankly at the sentence she’d just translated, the pen tip resting between her lips. She had no idea what the “Golden Lion’s hide” referred to, but she knew Pacrano—it was a port city at the southernmost edge of the Empire, a crucial hub for trade.

Yet they were offering it to someone from the Kingdom of Hertha? That was utterly absurd.

Moreover, as far as she knew, transferring Imperial territory to foreigners was illegal. Anyone doing so would face punishment akin to treason, so seeing such a statement written down filled her with deep unease.
