The Taesung case that Ra In had been investigating showed no progress after it was handed over to Nan Seul. Joo Hyuk began to grow impatient.

Was the prosecutor, who had announced they would summon him for questioning soon, actually grasping the core of this case? Were they heading in the right direction…?

The problem was that the prosecutor in charge was Yoon Nan Seul.

Prosecutor Yoon Nan Seul, famously known as “Princess” both at Korea University Law School and at the prosecutor’s office.

Her family was prestigious, with generations occupying key positions in the legal field—her grandfather, great-grandfather, her father who was the President of the Constitutional Court, and her mother, a former judge, all providing unwavering support.

Thanks to this background, even senior colleagues and the Chief Prosecutor carefully gauged Nan Seul’s mood and tried to keep her pleased—it was no wonder she was called “Princess.”

Thus, no one in the organization ever dared to say anything unpleasant to Nan Seul, and the only one who ever criticized her frankly was Joo Hyuk.

“Here’s the summary of everything Investigator Jin has compiled so far.”

Joo Hyuk handed Nan Seul a briefing document summarizing the current status of the investigation—a remarkable feat, condensing the enormous volume of documents submitted by Taesung into such a compact format.

“Why should I even refer to something Jin Ra In compiled?”

Responding to Nan Seul’s childish, provoking tone, Joo Hyuk took a breath and replied dryly.

“I’m not giving this to you as a reference—it’s the main material. It’d be even better if you proceeded exactly as outlined here.”

Nan Seul didn’t even glance at the document Joo Hyuk offered. He dropped it onto her desk with a thud. At the sound, Nan Seul lifted her head and looked at him.

“Yoon Nan Seul, you know this case wasn’t minor—Jin and I worked on it together.”

Dodging his serious tone, Nan Seul instead lifted her chin even more brazenly.

“Of course I know. It’s the Taesung case. I also know perfectly well that senior prosecutors refused to help just because they didn’t want to see Jin Ra In, leaving only the two of you stuck investigating it.”

Joo Hyuk didn’t know whether she herself realized that her twisted attitude and words stemmed from deep-seated inferiority.

He crossed his arms and looked down at Nan Seul with clear disapproval. He had neither the time nor the patience to fix her character flaws—yet the case still needed to move forward.

“It’s exactly the kind of complicated case you hate, so I’m genuinely curious—why are you so eager to take it on?”

Nan Seul had shown strong interest in the Taesung case even before it officially entered the investigation pool and had actively wanted to be assigned to it.

Given how high-profile the case was, Joo Hyuk had initially thought her interest understandable—but ever since she took charge, she hadn’t conducted anything resembling real investigation. Now, he couldn’t help but wonder what her true motive really was.

“Is it because you’d get linked to Taesung?”

It was such a simplistic reason that he hadn’t even considered it.

Fed up with wasting more time arguing, Joo Hyuk returned to the point and tapped the document he’d placed on her desk.

“Read this thoroughly. There’s a different true culprit behind this case.”

Nan Seul let out a soft, mocking laugh at his words.

“So what if there’s another real culprit? In the end, Director Na Song Gang will still have to take the blame, won’t he?”

Hearing those words, Joo Hyuk felt a strange chill run through him. She clearly wasn’t completely ignorant about the case—her stance even echoed what Taesung’s Head of Legal Affairs had been arguing.

“I’ll decide based on what you actually do.”

This was precisely why Joo Hyuk disliked Nan Seul. She abused the authority granted to prosecutors for personal motives and showed no fear at the thought that someone innocent might end up serving real prison time—it was impossible to shake the impression that she lacked the basic integrity required of a prosecutor.

Moreover, her passionate efforts were directed entirely away from uncovering the truth of this case, leaving him feeling utterly disoriented.

Honestly, he never wanted to discuss anything with her beyond work—but his sense of ethical duty as a prosecutor weighed heavily on his shoulders, becoming unbearable. What pressed on him even more acutely was Director Na Song Gang’s current predicament.

With his defense attorney essentially offering him up as a sacrificial lamb, even a slight misstep in the investigation could result in an innocent person receiving a harsh sentence.

“Don’t force evidence to fit a predetermined conclusion.”

She furrowed her brow, openly showing how much she disliked hearing that.

“You know this case was something senior prosecutors avoided from the start. Now it’s become such a high-profile, burdensome case that everyone is openly dodging it. Yet you volunteered to take it on—if you’re going to do it, investigate responsibly. Otherwise, just drop it now. I’ll handle it alone if I have to.”

Leaving behind advice that sounded more like an ultimatum, Joo Hyuk walked out of Nan Seul’s office.

Nan Seul’s eyes lingered on the case summary Joo Hyuk had left behind. That mere sheet of paper carried surprising weight. Resentment welled up in her eyes, brimming with anger at the trace Jin Ra In had left behind.

If they had to define their relationship, it was nothing short of bitter rivalry. Each loss to Jin Ra In—who had neither prestigious background nor family connections—deepened Nan Seul’s hatred further. Every time Jin ranked top of their class, people would whisper behind their backs:

“Even with her dad’s influence and her mom’s backing, Yoon Nan Seul can’t beat Jin Ra In even once.”

Remembering those moments, Nan Seul locked eyes with the paper for a long while—until, unable to contain her fury any longer, she snatched up the briefing and hurled it into the trash bin.

With Ra In’s absence, it was predictable that the prosecution’s investigation would turn against Song Kang, so naturally, his mind was racing.

An office near a serviced apartment close to the Taesung Group had already been fully prepared—only her first day of work remained.

Arriving at the address Song Kang had texted her, Ra In stood before the password-locked door and pulled out her phone.

She fumbled while entering the code—and paused at the last digit. Upon closer thought, she realized it was her own birthday… and also the day her parents had passed away.

Just then, the door opened from the inside. Ra In instinctively stepped two paces backward as the door swung open—it turned out Song Kang had already arrived.

“I set the password to your birthday so you wouldn’t find it troublesome to memorize—so why are you taking so long? Come in.”

Song Kang held the door wide open, and Ra In, her expression stiff, walked into the office.

“Change the password. Just set it to 0000—that’d be much simpler.”

“Are you inviting absolutely everyone in? If that’s the case, why not just leave the door unlocked?”

“Then I’ll set it to the last digits of your phone number, Mr. Na Song Gang.”

“If that’s easier for you, go ahead.”

Only then did Ra In finally lift her head fully. The sharp tension she’d felt slightly eased at the sight before her—the interior reflected Song Kang’s taste perfectly: sleek and modern.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were especially striking, offering a clear view of downtown Seoul. Ra In, who rarely reacted to surroundings, felt an unexpected stir in her chest.

“If there’s anything inconvenient while you’re working, feel free to tell me anytime.”

Something inconvenient caught her eye immediately. Ra In walked straight to the evidence documents neatly arranged on the spacious shelf.

Some materials might overlap with what she’d already reviewed at the prosecutor’s office, and some might be updated versions—but to understand Taesung’s current strategy, she’d need to examine every single page. Just thinking about it reminded her of the time she’d analyzed over 100,000 pages of evidence at the prosecutor’s office, and she felt a slight wave of dizziness.

Watching Ra In already appear troubled, Song Kang’s gaze shifted to her thin, pale hands. Thumb blisters would surely form if she tried flipping through all those pages. She clenched her fist firmly—and then moved.

“I’ll get started.”

Ra In decided she couldn’t afford to hesitate; every second counted. She gathered as many documents as she could carry and moved them to her desk.

As she sat down to begin working seriously, her eyes landed on the colorful thimbles placed neatly on the desk. Surprised by his thoughtfulness, she froze for a moment—then, worried he might read her thoughts if she hesitated longer, she quickly picked up a neutral-colored thimble and slipped it onto her thumb.

Song Kang took off his jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and moved a few more stacks of documents onto the empty space of her desk—tasks his secretaries would usually handle, but here, in this strictly confidential and restricted-access space, there was no other option.

Once Ra In began flipping through the documents, she focused entirely on reading, paying no attention to whatever Song Kang was doing beside her.

Though he had something to say, Song Kang held his breath for a moment, not wanting to break her concentration. He leaned against the shelf, arms crossed, and watched her.

The presence radiating from her delicate frame nearly made him slip out an admiring “Amazing.” He snapped back to reality just in time, having nearly lost himself in watching her.

“Prosecutor Jin Ra In.”

He broke the silence by calling her name. Ra In didn’t react—she hadn’t even heard him. Song Kang walked closer and tapped sharply on her desk. Only then did she look up.

“The rest of the handover will be handled by Attorney Cha Hae In. Make sure you answer her calls.”

Ra In just stared at him without replying.

“Say something.”

“Yes.”

She finally responded, reluctantly, leaving Song Kang thoroughly exasperated—as if he’d just received a formal bow.

“I have no intention of adapting to Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s ways. Replying when spoken to is basic etiquette in this society. It doesn’t seem like an unreasonable request—I’d appreciate it if you’d comply.”

Though he wasn’t wrong, it wasn’t exactly a pleasant suggestion.

“Yes.”

Ra In gave a short reply and immediately turned her attention back to the documents.

Song Kang narrowed his eyes slightly and stared straight ahead. He now had something to look forward to—soon, he’d find himself wanting to speak to her first, rather than waiting for a reply. With that thought in mind, he quietly left the office.

The moment he was gone, Ra In took a deep breath. It seemed she had more to adapt to than just the unfamiliar desk and chair.

For now, she needed to accept two realities: that she was receiving someone’s help, and that Director Na Song Gang was now her boss. Above all, she needed to show an attitude that matched the depth of her own urgent resolve.

“Ugh…”

She let out a long sigh, like a deflated balloon, and slumped back into the chair. Why was it so comfortable? It felt as if even the mental discipline she’d been trying to maintain was starting to loosen.

She looked around, then dragged over the stiffest-looking chair she could find and switched seats. There were many ways to make your body suffer.

Resolutely regrouping, she turned her eyes back to the documents. Over half the content could likely be filtered out. She remained in that same posture, deeply absorbed in reading for a long while.

She didn’t even notice the sun slowly setting behind her. She didn’t hear the sound of someone entering the password either.

Song Kang, returning from work, stopped in his tracks upon seeing Ra In still hard at work.

Why was the custom-made zero-gravity chair sitting unused in the corner? And why hadn’t she turned on the lights even as daylight faded? Full of questions, he switched on the lights first.

Ra In noticed the sudden brightness and lifted her head.

“When did you get here?”

Only after adjusting the motion sensor—so the lights would turn on automatically in the dark—did Song Kang turn to face her.

“Didn’t you hear the door open?”

Again, Ra In just stared at him blankly without answering. Song Kang walked closer. The amount of documents moved from the desk surface down to the floor—and from the shelf onto the desk—was substantial.

“You’ve already read this much?”

“No one’s been looking for me, and I’m actually working faster than I did at the prosecutor’s office—so it’s been nice.”

Song Kang could only shake his head in disbelief at her words.

“No one’s been looking for you…?”

He moved closer beside her, arms crossed, clearly disagreeing, and glanced pointedly at her phone.

Only then did Ra In pick it up and check her missed notifications. There were five unread texts from Song Kang and eight from Ha In—plus several missed calls.

“Oh… when did all these messages… come in?”

Her eyes darted around, lost and bewildered.

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.
