“Damn woman!”

After seeing off the knights’ expedition to exterminate monsters, the central square of the barracks was so deserted that not even an ant passed through.

Kalis, who had been staggering on the road like a drunkard, barely managed to regain his balance.

“I’ll make sure she pays for what she’s done!”

He wanted to crush the woman’s face—haunting his thoughts—right then and there.

The vial in his pocket jingled with each step Kalis took. Stopping at the center of the square, he quietly gripped the vial.

Just as his tightly shut eyes opened, the vial emerged into the world as well. From its wide-open mouth, as if uncorked, the liquid dripped steadily.

Soon, a mirage rose from the ground accompanied by the sharp, metallic scent of blood. Whatever the phenomenon was, it seemed clear evidence the potion had taken effect.

He quickly closed the vial and drew his sword. Then, ruffling his hair to feign having rushed here in panic, he shouted,

“Oh no!”

A scream shattered the barracks’ silence. Knights began emerging from the tents one by one—first those stationed in the tent nearest the central square.

“What’s going on! Oh—Duke Arhen, Your Grace! What brings you here? Everyone should’ve already left for the forest by now…”

“I sensed an ominous presence—felt certain a monster was about to attack the barracks, so I came here out of worry.”

The knight, who had initially eyed Kalis’s sudden appearance with suspicion, now stared at him in utter shock.

“What? A monster?”
