At a time when everyone was busy departing on expeditions, Kalis calmly guarded the barracks. Though one couldn’t afford even a moment’s rest to win the Hunting Festival, he had no choice—he faced something more urgent.

By the time the sound of hooves had completely vanished, Kalis stepped out of the barracks. He crept out stealthily and wandered through the Frihid Imperial Army’s encampment.

Though the location of the barracks themselves was known, the whereabouts of the person Kalis sought remained unknown; thus, today he had to find where Chloe was staying.

Kalis hid behind a barracks with a clear view of the central area and lay in wait. Noblewomen from Sahir often held tea times among themselves to stave off boredom, and the noblewomen of Frihid were no different.

True to expectation, noblewomen who had bid farewell to their loved ones began gathering, beautifully adorned.

They couldn’t wear elaborate gowns even inside the barracks, so they wore relatively simple everyday attire. Instead, they came adorned with jewelry on every finger and wrist—pieces that looked expensive at a glance.

Among them was even a noblewoman wearing no ordinary jewelry at all—and that was Chloe.

Spotting his target, Kalis quickly ducked down and then silently followed the noblewomen’s movements. Soon, they fluttered into a single barracks.

Their gathering only ended after the sky had grown so pitch-black that only brilliantly shining stars remained visible.

As night fell, the knights’ security tightened further. Each noblewoman had a dedicated knight stationed beside her—and Chloe was no exception.

Kalis followed Chloe with even greater caution. The darkness concealed his presence, offering him some reassurance.

Just before she entered the row of barracks stretching straight ahead, Kalis, who had been lying in wait the whole time, emerged and seized her.

With the scope now narrowed, locating her exact quarters was merely a matter of time; thus, conversation took priority over pinpointing her precise location right away.

His resolutely outstretched hand halted midair.

“What is it?”
