Devon drew a knife, pricked his finger, and let a drop of blood fall onto the covenant stone. The stone eagerly absorbed the blood flowing across its smooth surface without hesitation.
I took the knife he handed me and, without hesitation, slashed my finger. The cut turned into a red line, and beads of blood began to well up.
Plop—. The droplet fell onto the stone, rolled down, and a pure white light burst forth.

I took a deep breath to calm my surging emotions and accepted the divorce papers—my hands trembling uncontrollably.

After another deep breath, I spoke.
“I’ll handle the artifact. It won’t react anyway unless touched by its rightful owner. What about Duke Mipidian’s lawsuit withdrawal?”
Annoyed—as though obeying my command was beneath him—Devon snarled, his upper lip curling fiercely, and pulled out his communication orb. He barked orders to his lawyer to process the lawsuit withdrawal immediately.
Then, glaring at me with savage eyes as if to ask, “Is that enough now?”
I gave him an innocent smile and pulled out my own communication orb from my pocket. Devon frowned, scanning me up and down with suspicion.
