I was startled since I hadn’t received any word from Kahilrn.

‘No wonder…’

Honestly, if Matthias claimed he’d rescued me, there were many parts that didn’t make sense. No matter how noble a count he was, how could he possibly enter the Second Prince’s palace and secretly spirit away the head maid without anyone noticing?

But if it was Kahilrn, everything made perfect sense. After all, he was both the First Prince and Guildmaster.

‘Could it be that’s why he does that every night?’

Kahilrn always had the habit of leaving a small nightlight on while sleeping. I used to tease him, saying that despite spending so long on battlefields, he was still afraid of the dark—but now it seemed clear he’d been doing it for my sake.

Truthfully, ever since being locked in that pitch-black room for several days, I’d often felt suffocated whenever surrounded by complete darkness. Yet I’d never told anyone about it, yet Kahilrn already knew. My nose stung.

“Your Highness?”

Matthias called out to me again, probably finding my blank stare odd.

I shot up from my seat. Right then, I desperately wanted to see Kahilrn.

“Thank you for telling me. I’ve got something urgent to attend to, so I’ll take my leave now. Let’s talk properly another time.”

Without even waiting for Matthias’s reply, I hurried out of the library. Silvia, who’d been waiting outside, followed me with a puzzled look.

Unable to contain myself, I headed straight for the First Prince’s office and flung the door open before the guard stationed there could stop me.

Kahilrn, seated at his desk reading documents, raised an eyebrow upon seeing me. That expression, which once seemed unbearably smug, now looked utterly endearing.

Wondering if something was wrong with me, Kahilrn stood up from his seat.
