Shanna came to me on the exact tenth day as she had promised, bringing the red gemstone with her. I’d told her to bring it no matter what, but I’d actually expected she wouldn’t be able to steal it easily from Floria, so I was a little surprised.

“I’ve imbued a gemstone of identical shape with magic to mimic a similar aura, so at least for a while, she won’t notice anything.”

“It’s not fake, is it?”

Having been betrayed so many times before, suspicion came first, so I asked. Shanna stared at me intently.

“Would you like to verify it yourself?”

“Well, better safe than sorry.”

When I nodded, Shanna placed the gemstone between her fingers and squeezed. The sharp pain that instantly shot through me made me raise both hands.

“Stop, stop! I believe it’s real!”

Shanna handed me the gemstone with a strangely relieved expression.

“Then hand over Lyn’s core now.”

She could’ve just pressed lightly to confirm—it was clearly deliberate. I shot her a glare, feeling a twinge of regret that I hadn’t just let Kahilrn come along when he’d offered.

But if Kahilrn had come, I wouldn’t have been able to return Lyn’s core to Shanna.

Kahilrn had opposed giving Lyn’s core to Shanna. He didn’t trust her, and we still hadn’t found the first queen’s core.

“They have no choice but to return your heart. As long as the second prince consort exists, they can’t do anything with the gemstone immediately. They’ll likely think it’s better to hand it over to us.”

Kahilrn insisted it was better to keep Lyn’s core for the future.
