I'm Terminal Anyway, No Regrets (17 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 3
Before my regression, Liam Wilboyer was always steeped in deep exhaustion.
True to his reputation as the “Black Death of the Empire” who had roamed battlefields, even standing still, his presence was so sharp and oppressive it made one’s body tremble.
But now, it was different.
His eyes, once dull as if his soul had vanished, now sparkled with vitality and sharpness.
The emptiness in those eyes was completely filled—so thoroughly that nothing else could slip in.
His presence overwhelmed everyone around him. Both dukes and royals glanced at Liam rather than Marcus, the head of the delegation.
Although I had just seen him in my third death and the memory felt recent, seeing him now felt like meeting someone after years apart, and I was genuinely glad.
To me, Liam Wilboyer was both the reaper heralding death and the beacon of hope signaling the end of suffering.
When our eyes met, Liam quickly turned his gaze elsewhere.
He hadn’t expected anyone to recognize him, since he’d come to Glisia under a hidden identity.
While I watched Liam, the dukes engaged Marcus Venam of the Empire.
“The Emperor himself commanded me to return with a definitive answer this time.”
Marcus Venam, with his vibrant golden hair and youthful charm, spoke gently.
Duke Haiman of Wind, the most powerful noble in Glisia, let out a low, mocking laugh.
“An answer? An answer to what?”
“We wish to invite a member of the Beltoar royal family, who carries the Blessing, to the Empire. We’ve sent yearly requests, have we not? Here is His Majesty’s formal invitation.”
Marcus presented a sealed invitation, stamped with golden sealing wax, to the king.
“But without a Gifted one, the Blessing is useless—you know that well enough.”
“I merely carry out His Majesty’s will.”
Even if it’s useless, the Emperor desires it—so he’s determined to bring a royal back with him.
Duke Haiman tore open the seal right there, skimmed the contents, and handed it to the king.
Other nations also sent formal invitations to Glisia’s royals, purely as a matter of protocol—everyone knew Glisia’s royals never left the country.
But this time, the Empire’s tone was different.
‘We wish to escort even just one of you, yet you’re always unavailable—busy, ill, or occupied. Therefore, His Majesty ordered us to coordinate arrangements in advance and bring you to the Empire this time.
His resolve is absolute. He’s even prepared to dispatch a knightly order to escort you with the utmost care and respect.’
Marcus Venam delivered this final ultimatum with a smiling face.
The watching nobles tensed. Duke Windsor’s voice dropped lower.
“A knightly order?”
“He is, after all, a divine emissary of Lagras himself—the very god who bestows the Blessing. Naturally, we must send knights to ensure your royal safety and dignity.”
“Are you threatening us with force?”
“Of course not.”
Marcus Venam gave an awkward smile.
“His Majesty has been so adamant that I’m in a difficult position. He’s already assembled an entire division near the Grand Duchy of Wilboyer. He warned us that if we return alone, he’ll never allow us to reenter the Empire.”
“The Grand Duchy of Wilboyer…”
Nobles murmured at the name of the family that had betrayed and abandoned the nation, and even the king’s relaxed expression hardened.
Duke Versi of Water stepped forward—a cunning man known for teasing his opponents’ intentions with a playful smile.
“We understand the Empire’s intentions. Glisia will carefully consider the Emperor’s request. Please wait patiently.”
“I sincerely hope you deliver a favorable answer this time.”
Marcus bowed respectfully and withdrew with the delegation from before the king.
“How arrogant—to dare claim the bloodline of the gods.”
“Just you wait and see.”
The nobles watching nearby reacted no differently from the dukes.
In my previous life, the king and dukes had stalled for time, claiming they were still deliberating. The Empire’s delegates waited patiently—until urgent news arrived, forcing them to leave.
I later learned the tragic news was the death of Liam Wilboyer’s younger sibling.
Because of it, his father, Grand Duke Wilboyer, went mad—and Liam killed his own father with his hands.
Afterward, Liam Wilboyer led the Empire’s vanguard to invade Glisia and exact his revenge.
That was the future awaiting this country—and the consequence of the king, dukes, and nobles’ mockery.
“Beltoars—you know full well what happens to a Gifted one without the Blessing, and the agony they endure.
That’s precisely why I cannot forgive you. If even one of you had gone to the Empire—if even a single compassionate soul had stepped forward…”
“You will all feel it yourselves. Crave the Blessing… and die.”

Liam Wilboyer declared coldly.
He didn’t scream in agony, rage, or fury.
Right before the dukes’ eyes, he beheaded the king and the royal family.
Without the royals’ sweet Blessing, the dukes—who would otherwise suffer in torment—watched their dead rulers and held back. They did not activate their Gifts.
That was exactly why he imprisoned me instead of killing me.
Useless and powerless as I was, I remained the last living descendant of Glisia’s royal bloodline. Even without power, my child’s potential remained unknown.
I was bait—a sliver of hope dangled before the desperate dukes.
Those who once ignored me now sent their subordinates after me, only to become moths flying fatally into flame.
Liam protected me.
Though I was destined to die soon anyway.
[This is the timeline separator]After the Empire’s delegation withdrew, the king led the dukes into the audience chamber. I headed toward where the delegation had gone.
Liam, having distanced himself from the group, stepped out onto a balcony.
As I moved to follow, someone grabbed my arm.
“Where are you rushing off to so restlessly?”
It was Jeffrey.
“You should be assisting me—creating time for me to be with His Highness.”
“I’m just going to the restroom.”
“That’s not the right direction.”
“The other way is too crowded.”
Jeffrey frowned but accepted my excuse.
Apparently judging that it might delay my arrival at the audience chamber, he released my arm.
“Hurry back.”
To pretend I was obeying him, I lightly lifted my dress and quickened my steps.
I passed the delegation, entered the corridor leading to the restroom, then stealthily slipped behind display cabinets until I reached the balcony where Liam Wilboyer had gone.
“Oh.”
He wasn’t there.
The curtains weren’t drawn, so I assumed he was in a blind spot invisible from outside. But when I stepped onto the balcony myself—no one was there.
I needed to find him and speak quickly.
Just as I turned to leave the balcony, someone blocked my path.
A tall man—more than a head taller than me—with black hair, unreadable dark eyes, and a burly frame studied me with piercing intensity.
Even though I knew exactly who he was, the hairs on my arms stood on end.
Like a predator guarding prey that had wandered into its den, Liam regarded me warily—but with calm ease.
“Madam Ormia Olan.”
Liam knew who I was.
“Why would a married lady follow me—an envoy of the Empire—staring so intently, no less?”
Outwardly, I was known as powerless—the only member of the royal family who didn’t fulfill the duty of bestowing Blessings.
Only nobles knew the truth: that instead of Blessings, I inflicted suffering. It was an open secret everyone quietly acknowledged.
Liam Wilboyer, having heard the rumors, looked at me with icy disdain—which, oddly, filled me with joy.
“I’m glad to see you again, Liam Wilboyer.”
His eyes widened briefly.
The Wilboyers were branded heretics—the Empire’s archenemy, seen as evil for abandoning the god Lagras.
Liam had used a different name within the delegation, so no one knew a Wilboyer was attending Glisia’s royal banquet.
Liam swiftly scanned the area outside with a sidelong glance.
“No one else knows you’re in Glisia but me.”
“The title ‘Wilboyer’ belongs to the Grand Duke. You may have guessed based on resemblance, but don’t accuse the wrong person. If you truly understand what ‘Wilboyer’ means in Glisia, you’d watch your words more carefully.”
“It’s you—Liam Wilboyer. I have something to say.”
Though this was his first time meeting me, it wasn’t mine. With such certainty in my words, Liam stopped denying it.
He stepped forward, towering over me so imposingly that I had to tilt my chin up to see his face.
He seemed even larger than when I’d looked up at him from prison.

“How would a princess who’s never left Glisia know him?”
“I also know why you’re here—because your younger sibling is gravely ill.”
Liam lifted the corner of his mouth in a bitter smirk.
“Anyone knows that much. Yet the mighty Beltoars, fully aware, toy with others’ lives.”
He was threatening, cold, and composed—an aura so commanding it overwhelmed with presence alone.
Having endured three deaths, I wasn’t afraid of him.
“You probably intend to meet royals and seek their cooperation—but no one in Glisia will betray their homeland. His Highness and the dukes view your threat of sending knights as mere bluster. They’ll drag things out until you’re exhausted.
And in the end, you’ll miss the crucial moment.”
“The crucial moment?”
“Your sibling’s deathbed.”
The moment the words left my lips, crimson flames flickered around him—then vanished instantly.
Though brief, the manifestation of his Gift deepened the furrow in Liam’s brow.
His large, rough hand seized my throat.
“Ormia Beltoar—the one branded impure, cursed by the gods.”
He ground his teeth audibly.
“You’re a Beltoar too. How dare you speak of my sibling’s death with that mouth? Fully aware of the suffering your family has inflicted on the Wilboyers—yet you dare…”
He lowered his voice to a whisper, as if afraid someone outside might hear—like a man choking back blood—while a cruel smile curled his lips.
“It’d be easy to kill you and toss you out, making it look like suicide. Since no one wants you, no one would even investigate why you died.”
He spoke coldly on purpose to wound me.
But those words were familiar—I’d already heard and lived through them.
From my father, my mother, my siblings—from nobles and commoners alike.
I’d heard them firsthand, spoken from their lips across three lifetimes.
“I’ll go to the Empire.”
Poof—a hundred white flowers drifted down around us.
Watching the blossoms spiral gently downward, Liam’s eyes widened.
I softly wrapped my hands around his, the one gripping my throat, and whispered to him.
“I can save your sibling.”
I no longer wished to stay in this country.
I would be the one to abandon Glisia first.
