I'll Be the Queen of the Enemy Country (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 2
Becoming king required a great deal of money and people.
“It’s all right, Elise. You’re doing this all for me. I don’t see it that way at all. You’re performing a noble act—rewriting history itself. I’ll always be grateful to you.”
Each time Chase took the money Elise had prepared for him, he embraced her.
Elise couldn’t help but sink deeper into that warmth.
“Father’s illness is getting worse. I’m worried.”
The king, who had lost his queen and banished his beloved eldest son, lingered in poor health but held onto life for quite a while.
Chase appeared concerned, but that wasn’t his true intention.
‘Please kill my father.’
Elise bit down hard on her lower lip. There was one thing she simply couldn’t do—take a life.
Eventually, while she hesitated, the king died.
“Elise, I knew you’d do it for me.”
Chase believed Elise had taken action. Though she hadn’t, Elise gave an awkward smile—because she loved the sweet kisses he gave her….
Naturally, Chase ascended the throne.
Now they could marry. Elise’s heart swelled with hope, but a year after becoming king, Chase began keeping his distance from her.
“Elise, there’s so much I need to learn and so much to do. Could you just wait a little longer for me?”
How many years had she already waited?
There was no reason she couldn’t wait just one more year.
Instead, Chase granted Elise a room in the palace and allowed her to stay.
However, his visits to see her dropped sharply.
As Chase stopped seeking Elise out, strange rumors began to circulate.
Chase and Iris enjoyed tea together; Chase and Iris spent tender moments in the greenhouse; Chase and Iris…
Elise was tormented and deliberately shut herself in her room to avoid hearing such talk.
She wanted to ask Chase about it, but he had become someone whose face she rarely saw.
As her memories drifted to that point, Elise’s chest tightened painfully. She clutched her chest and gasped for breath.
“Are you all right?”
Regina checked on her. Elise forced an awkward smile and straightened her back. She couldn’t afford to give anyone even the slightest reason to criticize her.
Many in the palace disliked Elise.
Regina brightened her voice deliberately.
“To think His Majesty would choose to propose in Aubry Hall—how truly romantic of him.”
Aubry Hall was a sacred place housing portraits of the late king and the pope.
Only members of the royal family, a few personal attendants, high-ranking clergy, and a select handful of nobles were permitted entry; merely receiving an invitation was an honor.
Before they knew it, the two stood before Aubry Hall.
The grand hall loomed over Elise.
“A proposal just two weeks before the wedding ceremony? Though the proposal comes late, doing it in Aubry Hall makes perfect sense.”
It wasn’t really a matter of whether Regina understood or not, but Elise chose not to correct her and instead quickened her pace.
Though she feigned indifference about marriage in front of others, Elise longed to start a family as soon as possible.
Every time she heard news of someone else’s wedding, she felt envious.
Though she pretended otherwise, she was hurt that Chase hadn’t proposed.
After today, she wouldn’t have to envy others or feel disappointed in Chase anymore.
A faint smile played at Elise’s lips.
The knights guarding the entrance to Aubry Hall recognized Elise and bowed respectfully. One of them blocked Regina.
“Regina is my attendant.”
“Only Viscount Warton may enter.”
The knights were unusually strict today. Elise narrowed her eyes.
Though generally kind-hearted, Elise would not tolerate disrespect toward her own people.
She had already lost far too many.
‘Was I someone who never truly had anyone from the start?’
Elise briefly recalled those who had passed through her life, then quickly pushed the thoughts away.
“Remove your spear at once.”
As Elise’s voice turned icy, Regina stepped forward.
Trending
“My lord, please don’t. It’s an important day. I’ll wait right here—I clearly don’t belong inside.”
As Regina stepped back, she whispered into Elise’s ear.
“It seems you need some private time with your lover. His Majesty is rather a romantic at heart, after all.”
Regina, who had longed for Chase’s proposal even more than Elise herself.
“It is His Majesty’s wish.”
Elise’s hesitation ended, as expected, because of Chase.
“If that is truly His Majesty’s wish…”
Elise turned to look at Regina. Regina was already standing beneath the shade of a distant tree.
“Open the door.”
As the door opened, the carved lioness and lion—symbols of queen and king—moved apart.
Elise clasped her hands together. She’d thought she wasn’t nervous, but now tension gripped her.
She tightened her grip on her dress, then slowly stepped into Aubry Hall.
“You’ve arrived, Viscount Warton.”
Elise flinched and froze in place.
She’d expected Chase alone, but the circular hall held far more people than anticipated.
The Sages of the Ivory Tower, the Captain of the Knights, and even Elise’s elder sister, Iris.
Iris was the one person who least belonged there.
Elise’s eyes widened.
“Sister… what are you doing here?”
Iris wore a cool, serene smile.
She deliberately placed her hand on Chase’s arm.
“Have you been well, Elise?”
Elise’s pupils darted left and right.
“You must maintain proper decorum—as Viscount Warton.”
Before Elise could collect herself, her body bowed instinctively. Her ingrained etiquette helped mask her shock.
“Elise Warton, paying respects to Your Majesty.”
Chase barely acknowledged her greeting, his gaze drifting away. Instead, Iris stared directly at her and spoke.
“Viscount Warton, you are hereby arrested on charges of regicide and treason.”
“…!”
Elise lifted her head abruptly, her eyes filled with shock.
“All titles and rights granted to Viscount Warton are hereby stripped, effective immediately. All assets shall be transferred to the Ivory Tower. The criminal Warton shall be imprisoned in the dungeon below.”
The words were tantamount to a death sentence, and Elise’s face turned deathly pale.
“Y-Your Majesty…”
Her lips parted with great effort, releasing a sound closer to a groan than a call.

The dungeon door locked shut. Elise was tossed inside like a sack of goods.
A drop of water fell onto Elise’s head. Her eyes blinked slowly.
Her senses, long absent, finally began returning.
She became aware of the sound of water dripping onto stone, the coldness of the floor against her seated hips.
“What on earth…?”
Her tightly sealed lips parted. Her lost voice returned.
Without time to think, she moved on instinct.
“Open this door at once! I am Viscount Elise Warton! The betrothed of His Majesty, Elise Warton!”
Elise shook the iron bars, screaming until her throat tore raw. But no answer came.
She was utterly alone.
The royal dungeon, reserved only for the most heinous criminals, held not even a single guard.
Elise stepped back—one pace, then two—slowly distancing herself from the bars.
The cell was so narrow her back quickly met the cold wall.
She slid down the wall, collapsing onto the floor.

She tried to think rationally, but it was impossible.
Elise wailed all night long—a cry so desperate and heart-wrenching that anyone who heard it would have been unable to bear leaving her locked away.
Thus, Elise slowly withered away, alone in the cold dungeon.
The bars finally opened after exactly three days.
Elise’s body was emaciated, her breath shallow—on the verge of fading—when the door creaked open.
“Viscount Elise Warton—or rather, I should now call you Criminal Elise.”
Elise barely managed to lift her bowed head.
Her yellow dress was so filthy its original color was unrecognizable; her neatly pinned hair had come undone into wild disarray.
She reeked, and her palms were raw and torn from how fiercely she’d gripped and shaken the bars.
“What a wretched state. Should I say you’ve returned to your true self?”
“Who…?”
Elise barely managed to speak.
“Gabriel, assigned to interrogate Criminal Elise.”
“Ga…briel?”
Elise’s heart lurched. Gabriel was one of Iris’s devoted followers.
A former soldier, he had resigned his post and left the palace when Iris departed—so why was he here?
“I shall now interrogate Criminal Elise. Elise Warton, do you admit to assassinating the late king?”
Before Elise could grasp the situation, the interrogation began.
“…I never did such a thing.”
Elise answered with great difficulty.
“Admitted. Next—do you admit to conspiring with Prince Titris?”
“Wait! I just said I never did that! Why are you saying I admitted it?”
As if doused with cold water, Elise’s mind snapped awake.
Summoning her last ounce of strength, she grabbed Gabriel’s collar and shook him.
“Bring His Majesty here at once! His Majesty knows the truth! His Majesty…”
“It seems you still don’t understand the situation.”
Gabriel sneered and threw Elise’s shoulder aside.
“Aaah!”
Elise crashed into the wall and collapsed.
“You’d be wise to simply confess your crimes. Since you’re going to die anyway, you might as well keep your body intact, wouldn’t you?”
Thud. Gabriel loosened his grip—a gesture that foreshadowed violence. Elise’s body trembled violently.
“You keep invoking His Majesty. Do you really think His Majesty is unaware of this situation?”
Elise’s muscles stiffened rigidly. Satisfied with her expression, Gabriel let out a coarse laugh.
Somewhere deep inside Elise, something that had been holding her up snapped.
“His Majesty… knows everything?”
Elise’s lips parted emptily.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife
I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro
When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.
After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.
Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.
Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.
At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.
Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.
The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.
He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.
[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
