I'll Be the Queen of the Enemy Country (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
Unlike Karan, Elise remained calm.
“People are staring.”
“And?”
“They’ll insult Your Highness.”
“I’m used to that. Anything else?”
“Nothing else.”
“Good. That means I don’t have to get used to seeing that expression on your face.”
Watching Karan sigh in relief, Elise tilted her head in confusion.
“If I’d told you to get used to your wound…”
Karan grimaced as if struck by a horrifying thought.
“I… huff, no.”
Karan shook his head and gently brushed his thumb near Elise’s injury.
Though his touch was careful, Elise reflexively winced.
“Your Highness, you really don’t need to worry about…”
“I won’t worry, so you stop worrying too.”
“Huh?”
It was a loaded statement. Though it seemed merely to draw a line, it filled her with an ominous feeling. When Elise questioned him, Karan only shrugged.
Whatever he’d been thinking alone, his expression had clearly brightened from before.
Then Karan grasped Elise’s hand, which had rested feather-light on his arm.
“Since we’re showing it off anyway, let’s make it clear.”
Karan guided Elise toward the inner side of the path. Perhaps it was his intention—Elise vanished from the sight of those who’d been pointing fingers at them.
Karan interlaced his fingers firmly with Elise’s and began walking with purpose.
Throughout their walk, Karan’s softly muttered words kept circling in Elise’s mind.
“Don’t worry about me, no matter what I do.”
[This is the timeline separator]Two days later, a summons arrived from the royal palace for the viscount.
Fraser came to Elise’s room.
“All because of you, I’m suffering endless humiliation! How can you eat when you’ve brought such disgrace upon this household?”
Fraser’s fury was fierce. Yet, unlike last time, he didn’t strike Elise—or perhaps couldn’t strike her.
His right hand was tightly wrapped in bandages. Had he fallen somewhere? Whatever the reason, it felt satisfying.
“Just stay quietly locked in your room. Consider this your final warning! If things go wrong, you won’t leave here with a single hair on your head!”
Only after delivering this threat did Fraser leave Elise’s room.
He was like an old, shrill rooster, all bluster and noise.
Elise shook her head and closed the book she’d been reading.
“Regina, if you have something to say, go ahead.”
Regina had been glancing nervously at her for days, and it was starting to bother Elise.
“It’s nothing, my lady.”
“I’ll ask just once more. Do you have something to say?”
After hesitating, Regina finally spoke.
“What will you do from now on?”
Though she seemed to be asking about Elise’s plans, her tone was mostly worry.
How could she survive, openly defying Viscount Fraser and entangling herself with the barbarian prince?
“Regina, I’ll live very well.”
“Barbarian… I’m sorry. Are you planning to follow His Highness Karan to Titris?”
Anxiety filled Regina’s eyes.
‘It should be fine to tell Regina. I need to ask for her consent too.’
Elise made up her mind and nodded.
“I’m going to marry His Highness Karan. Naturally, I’ll be moving to Titris. So, Regina, will you come with me?”
“What? Of course! Absolutely!”
“Regina, I’ll give you a few days to think it over. Titris is completely different from Bedroka. I’ve never been there myself, but they say it’s extremely cold and desolate. You won’t even receive your beloved Ailicat Times on time, and you won’t see your family.”

“My only family is you, my lady.”
Elise flinched. She’d made a terrible slip of the tongue.
Two years ago, Regina’s family had set foot in the Centris region—the land of Ragnaros—and lost their lives.
The continent’s people called the land where Ragnaros slumbered the Centris region. Even in slumber, Ragnaros’s influence was so severe that humans couldn’t survive there.
Unpredictable weather, rotten soil, unbreathable air, and monsters sporadically bursting through gates linked to Ragnaros’s lair.
Because of this, humans often suffered losses.
‘It’ll only get worse. Ragnaros’s awakening draws near.’
Based on what Elise had experienced, Ragnaros would awaken in ten years.
“I’m sorry, Regina.”
“No, my lady. If your heart is set and your decision made, I won’t worry anymore. I’ll follow you.”
Regina had always been steadfast—both in the past and now.
For the sake of repaying her loyalty, Elise resolved to live this life with even greater effort.
“Oh dear, your teacup is empty. Shall I bring more tea, my lady? Should I prepare some snacks on my way back?”
Though she wasn’t hungry, Elise needed some time alone, so she nodded and sent Regina away.
Elise picked up a book—a travelogue about Titris written by a Bedrokan.
Every page was filled with complaints about Titris, but she’d brought it along thinking that reading even a single word would be better than arriving completely ignorant.
“”
“‘The Demon’s Breath,’ huh… So that’s how they see it. How foolish.”
Scoffing at the author’s ignorance, Elise continued reading.
“How peaceful.”
“What brings you here?”
Elise asked.
“I came to see if you were properly reflecting after causing such a huge scandal. but instead of repenting, you’re already plotting your next disaster.”
Iris crossed her arms and sneered.
“You must be disappointed. I’m not crying.”
Elise gave a small, amused smile.
“Disappointment is for those you expect something from. I have no expectations of you—you’re baseborn, talentless, and plain-looking.”
Iris grabbed Elise’s chin, shook it side to side, then released it with a dismissive flick.
“You look vulgar.”
By Bedrokan standards of beauty, Iris’s words held some truth.
Cat-like features weren’t favored in Bedroka.
To be praised as beautiful, one needed innocent, puppy-like eyes and a deer-like aura.
‘Iris is the typical beauty.’
Once, Elise had deeply envied Iris. She’d arched her eyebrows into gentle curves and avoided opening her eyes too wide, trying to mimic her.
But now, Elise felt no envy toward Iris at all, nor did she find her beautiful.
‘Knowing there’s a snake inside, how could she look pretty? Creepy, maybe.’
Without realizing it, Elise let out a mocking laugh.
“Why that expression?”
Predictably, Iris picked a fight.
“Are you really nitpicking my expression now? If you’ve got nothing useful to say, just leave.”
“It’s not me—it’s you who needs to speak. I need to know what’s rattling around in that tiny head of yours. What are you planning?”
Why did she keep coming to harass her when all she had to do was accept things as they were?
Elise was starting to get annoyed.
“What do you think will happen?”
“What do you mean, ‘what’? You’ll simply marry His Highness Chase as planned. And because of this incident, you’ll spend your whole life unable to lift your head before him. What will high society say? That His Highness Chase is pitiful… Could it be you orchestrated all this just to earn his sympathy? If so, I’d call that truly devoted love.”
Satisfied with her self-written little drama, Iris smirked.
Elise suddenly realized she’d cultivated an image of someone who’d sacrifice even her dignity for Chase.
Her mood instantly plummeted.
Every time she encountered her past foolish self, her mouth turned bitter.
Elise gave Iris a sidelong glance.

Their tense gazes clashed.
Elise looked away first and picked up her book—there was no better dismissal.
She could feel Iris’s sharp stare boring into the back of her head.
Soon after, the door closed. Elise slowly set down her book.
“Me marrying Chase?”
Elise smirked, lifting the corner of her mouth.
“We’ll see how it turns out.”
[This is the timeline separator]“Viscount Warton, you’ve greatly disappointed me.”
“Your Majesty, I’m deeply ashamed. But the rumors in the gossip sheets are untrue. As you know, my second daughter holds an exceptionally deep love for His Highness Chase.”
Fraser stood before Langji, King of Bedroka, sweating profusely without even being offered a seat.
“Whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter. Because of your daughter, the honor of the Bedrokan royal house lies in the dirt!”
At the king’s angry roar, Fraser flinched.
Langji was famous for being born and raised in peaceful times, rarely showing emotional extremes, and widely praised as a generous ruler who overlooked his subordinates’ minor mistakes.
Though admittedly, he wasn’t much of a father or husband.
But even Langji had one thing he absolutely wouldn’t tolerate: any tarnish to the royal house’s honor.
Perhaps because he’d ascended the throne solely by royal bloodline without any special ability, his obsession with the royal family’s honor was strangely intense.
“I’ll find a way to fix this.”
“How? The whole world already knows your second daughter made a mockery of Chase! Our alliance ends here.”
“Your Majesty, why speak so coldly?”
Fraser pleaded, but Langji didn’t even twitch an eyebrow.
Langji gestured coldly to his royal guards.
The king’s knights puffed out their chests and stood beside Fraser.
“Do I need to have you dragged out?”
At the icy tone, Fraser immediately dropped to his knees.
The investment funds they’d received, all because of the impending royal marriage alliance, were enormous. If those investors pulled out, the Warton viscountcy would end up on the streets.
He had to maintain ties with the royal family at all costs—only then could he protect both his business and his house.
Fraser’s mind raced, cycling through and discarding several schemes.
Each idea fell just short of turning Langji’s heart back.
Finally, one desperate thought struck him, and Fraser’s face hardened.
‘Is this really the only way?’
He disliked it immensely, but right now, he had no better option.
To secure another chance, he first had to win back Langji’s favor.
“Your Majesty, I do have two daughters, don’t I?”
“What do you mean?”
