As the maid placed the tray on the table beside the sofa and turned to Veronica, her eyes widened in surprise.
Her mistress’s relaxed posture exuded an unusual languidness, but even more striking was the book resting in her small hands—

The maid wondered inwardly, “What’s gotten into the young miss today?” but kept her thoughts hidden behind a polite smile.
“Miss, I’ve brought your snack.”
It was currently Veronica’s favorite time of day—the snack hour. Today’s dessert was a chiffon cake slathered in her beloved pink strawberry cream.
She had expected the girl to leap up with delight, but instead, Veronica merely glanced at it briefly before returning her full attention to her book.
“Miss?”
“I’m fine.”
“What? But it’s strawberry cream cake…”
“Yeah. I’m just not very hungry.”
With that, she continued reading as if truly uninterested.
The maid could only stare blankly at the young girl, engrossed in a thick, seemingly difficult book—so unlike the dessert-loving child she knew.
Even after the maid quietly left the room, Veronica remained on the sofa, reading for quite some time.
Eventually, she checked the time, rose from the sofa, smoothed her wrinkled clothes, and left the room.
Walking through the silent corridor, she entered a certain chamber, where a neatly dressed man was waiting.
He was her music instructor. He offered a forced smile to greet Veronica, but couldn’t conceal the anxiety and exhaustion in his hollow eyes.
“Well then, Miss Hardness, let’s give it our best again today.”

After this brief exchange, Veronica sat down at the piano prepared in the center of the room.
Behind her, as she stared quietly at the keys, the instructor nervously swallowed, secretly dreading what was to come.
He had never before wished for his own hearing to fail—not until he’d been assigned to teach her.
Her small hands rested on the keys. The instructor agonized over how to coax some semblance of rhythm out of her today.
He reminded himself: she was a highborn girl younger than him, yet wielded terrifying influence—rumor had it she’d replace anyone who displeased her instantly; the pay for this lesson was exceptionally generous; and losing this job would spell disaster for his livelihood.
His legs trembled uncontrollably.
He couldn’t afford to lose this golden opportunity! The instructor scrambled to think of every possible flattering phrase.
Then, her small hands began to move.
The instructor, arms crossed and face etched with worry, slowly narrowed his eyes—and soon shot up from his chair in astonishment.

this chapter was extremely sad. I like the fact that the author keep emphasizing on her past life, like not to let go her trauma. I i have read many fast pace regression novels when as soon as fmc finds love everything else just goes really fast and nothing else matters almost as if forgetting the revenge which was suppose to be the priority, so far loving this novel i hope they don’t ruin it.
I can totally understand the fmc she don’t want fake friends cause she already has a experience where she thought someone was her friend but they where only using her for her status. I mean its always hard to trust people when u been betrayed badly. I can totally understand her having trust issues.
she must be thinking something really romantic is going on between them. If only she knew what her favorite is scheming in that head of hers.
