If You Wish For My Death (6 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 6
“Hoho, is that really true?”
“Yes, it is absolutely true.”
The Emperor felt deflated, but quickly changed his mind. After all, it wasn’t a bad outcome for him.
His gaze immediately shifted downward to Cassian, who stood below.
“What does my fifth child think of this?”
“I’m so taken aback that I don’t even know what to say.”
Cassian clenched his teeth. His stormy eyes fixed on Veronica, who was smiling innocently as if she knew nothing at all.
She wore a confident expression, as though not a single grain of falsehood existed in her words.
Cassian chose to retreat for now—surely he must have thought it inappropriate to argue or challenge her in front of His Imperial Majesty. But Veronica didn’t miss her chance.
“Your Highness Cassian, have you forgotten? The letters we exchanged, the feelings we’ve nurtured all this time.”
“This—!”
—What absurd nonsense! It seemed Veronica could hear the rest of his words, which he ground out through gritted teeth.
Harry, startled by her statement, looked back and forth between the two of them. The Emperor was equally surprised.
Asar stood stiffly, his face clouded with confusion.
Cassian clenched both hands into fists. He had deliberately stopped the Emperor from sending him away just so he could say these very words.
Moreover, he had never once shared heartfelt feelings with her—it was all an outright lie.
His face flushed crimson, and his whole body trembled. The Emperor, however, misinterpreted Cassian’s reaction as bashfulness.
“Oh my! I never imagined my fifth child and the young lady of House Hardness had been cultivating feelings for each other.”
The Emperor’s eyes resembled a bird’s backside.
“I had thought you harbored feelings for my fourth child.”
“At first, that was true—but Your Highness Cassian comforted my heart. You genuinely worried for me and even consoled me, saying you wished for my true happiness. You embraced me and said that if there were another life, you’d meet me wholeheartedly and share your feelings completely.”
“Ohoho—I had no idea my fifth child could be so tender!”
“I know this may burden you, Your Highness, but I can no longer hide these feelings.”
“Yes, yes, I understand.”
Understand what? You don’t understand anything. Veronica nearly scoffed at the Emperor’s eager agreement—but only in her mind.
“Now I understand why you came to see me. You wished to request marriage to my fifth child.”
“Yes, Your Imperial Majesty. I wanted to make the request myself this time to avoid any confusion—though, of course, only if Your Highness Cassian accepts my feelings.”
“Of course! I accept it gladly, more than gladly!”
“Your Majesty!”
Cassian urgently cut in to interrupt their conversation, but the Emperor frowned.
“How noisy. Who do you think you’re shouting in front of?”
“…I apologize.”
Cassian bowed his head and returned to his original position. Though he masked his expression, his clenched fists betrayed his fury. Asar glanced sideways at him.
Of course, the Emperor cared not a bit for Cassian’s feelings. He knew well enough Cassian’s standing within the imperial household.
“I shall grant my permission. The two of you will surely make an excellent couple.”
They would become formally engaged immediately, but more importantly, the Emperor had personally pledged their future marriage.
This decree was as binding as an imperial edict—absolutely irrevocable, and its effect would last forever unless the Emperor himself withdrew it.
Veronica beamed with delight.
“Thank you, Your Imperial Majesty.”
“Veronica—what’s this about? Letters exchanged and feelings shared with His Highness Teron?”
The moment they stepped out of the audience chamber, Harry seized Veronica and demanded an explanation.
He hadn’t even realized when the two of them had supposedly developed feelings for each other.
“I’ll explain later, Father.”
Veronica glanced sideways as she spoke. She had no time now to satisfy her father’s curiosity—Cassian was stomping toward her, visibly furious.
“Veronica Hardness!”
“Oh my—Your Highness Cassian! Did you come all this way just to see me?”
Despite his visibly enraged expression, Veronica greeted him as if completely oblivious, casually spouting words that would make anyone else recoil in shock.
Indeed, Cassian’s face darkened further. Yet, unable to raise his voice in front of Duke Hardness, he summoned every ounce of patience he had.
Veronica gave a small, amused smile and turned to Harry.
“Father, I’d like a moment alone with His Highness.”
Trending
“Very well.”
Though the atmosphere felt ominous, Harry simply bowed slightly to Cassian and stepped aside as she requested.
Once he was gone, Veronica turned her gaze back to Cassian. He had just finished watching Harry walk away and was turning his eyes toward her.
“Do you have something to say to me?”
“What outrageous rudeness is this? When did we ever exchange letters or nurture feelings? You exchanged letters with Asar, not me! And didn’t I clearly reject your feelings last time?”
“We can exchange letters from now on, and start nurturing feelings beginning today. After all, if we’re to be engaged anyway, we’ll see each other often whether we like it or not. Feelings will surely grow in time.”
“Is that really what you’re calling an answer?”
“Yes, exactly.”
Veronica grew even more shameless.
“Isn’t it rather plausible? This love story between Your Highness and me.”
“What lies are you spinning?”
“But His Majesty didn’t notice a thing, did he?”
Even if he had noticed, he wouldn’t have cared—but she’d still worried briefly that the Emperor might ask Cassian’s opinion and reject her proposal.
Fortunately, that hadn’t happened.
“Love stories always contain a bit of embellishment, don’t they? I gave it serious thought—if I were truly sharing my heart with Your Highness, wouldn’t this be how our story might go?”
Cassian was speechless, heat rising from the tips of his hair to the crown of his head. Seeing his reaction, Veronica smiled brightly instead.
“If only you’d listened carefully to me back then—you’d already know you’re destined to marry me.”
“—Ha.”
Cassian let out a short, sharp laugh—clearly not one of genuine amusement.
His eyes, which had dropped briefly only to rise again, now gleamed with even fiercer intensity.
“You must be mad. They said you’d suffered a severe fever recently—perhaps it’s addled your mind.”
“That could very well be true.”
If he called her mad, then yes—she truly was mad. Veronica readily admitted it.
“If you disliked me so much, you could have just rejected me again as you did before.”
“Who says I didn’t—”
Cassian snapped his mouth shut again. In truth, he wasn’t in a position to “reject” her request.
Veronica knew his situation perfectly well. Anyone with half a brain would have realized from the earlier scene that his own wishes had not been considered at all.
Among imperial princes, bloodline wasn’t the only factor—hierarchy existed, and not all sons received equal treatment. It was already well-known throughout the empire that the Emperor’s children each had different mothers, a messy dynastic tangle.
And of course, Veronica was happy to exploit that fact.
When had it been?
She couldn’t recall which past life it was—but she’d once learned the reason Asar, who had always rejected her advances, had suddenly proposed: it was by His Imperial Majesty’s command.
With both her father’s petition and the Emperor’s decree, Asar had proposed, and they became engaged.
It had been a forced engagement from the very beginning—an entirely one-sided relationship. Naturally, no real affection could grow from that.
Knowing this, Veronica had personally gone to the Emperor to request marriage to Cassian.
She knew he wouldn’t refuse her.
Getting engaged immediately was only the first step—but securing the Emperor’s personal promise of future marriage was already a major victory.
Since the Emperor had pledged it “personally,” he wouldn’t go back on it—at least, not before her family met utter ruin.
“Don’t you find me beautiful, Your Highness?”
“What did you say?”
“People have always told me I’m quite pretty. I’ve heard so often that I’ll grow into a great beauty that the words are practically etched into my ears. My figure isn’t bad either, and my family’s wealth is known throughout the empire. Aren’t you glad you’ll marry someone like me one day?”
“So your extraordinary self believes I should consider it an honor to marry you?”
“I didn’t mean it that way—but if that’s how you take it, then so be it.”
“…Why are you doing this to me?”
Cassian asked, barely restraining his anger.
Frustration over his helpless situation and her incomprehensible behavior mingled in his voice.
“How am I supposed to look at Asar now…?”
“…”
His anger was directed not at her, but toward his beloved elder brother.
He worried about the pain his brother must feel—and felt guilt over it. Veronica watched Cassian in silence.
They had always been like this—only ever caring for each other, protecting only each other.

Like wounded souls offering mutual comfort, Asar had kept Cassian by his side until the very end.
He’d cast aside his fiancée—but never the brother he held dearest.
She’d heard that when Asar ascended the throne, Cassian had been his greatest pillar—leading the purge against those who defied him.
Disgusting. Veronica slowly pursed her lips.
“Didn’t I already tell you? That I’ve come to admire you.”
“…”
“If my future holds happiness, I wish to share it with you.”
And if my future holds misery, I wish to share that with you too. That is how I’ll take my revenge.
On your precious elder brother—and on that man I wish to erase completely from this world.
If he suffers wounded pride, that’s exactly what I desire. And I care nothing for the pain you’ll endure because of it.
If they showed no concern for her suffering, then she would show none for theirs.
‘If you wish for my death, I shall gladly resist you.’
Veronica made her resolve.
If her future held only despair, she would drag Asar’s cherished younger brother into that despair with her.
So watch closely, Asar—watch how your dearly loved brother falls apart.
Veronica hid her cruel intentions behind a sweet smile.
Cassian looked at her as if chilled to the bone—but even that didn’t matter. Hadn’t she already made it clear from the start? His feelings meant nothing in this marriage.
Anticipating the despair they would share together from now on, she whispered with false tenderness,
“Let’s live happily together, Your Highness Prince Cassian.”

“How dare you!”
“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?
“I will never accept that.”
“I will never let you return to him.”
“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”
“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!
At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
Synopsis:

this chapter was extremely sad. I like the fact that the author keep emphasizing on her past life, like not to let go her trauma. I i have read many fast pace regression novels when as soon as fmc finds love everything else just goes really fast and nothing else matters almost as if forgetting the revenge which was suppose to be the priority, so far loving this novel i hope they don’t ruin it.
I can totally understand the fmc she don’t want fake friends cause she already has a experience where she thought someone was her friend but they where only using her for her status. I mean its always hard to trust people when u been betrayed badly. I can totally understand her having trust issues.
she must be thinking something really romantic is going on between them. If only she knew what her favorite is scheming in that head of hers.
