If You Wish For My Death (6 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 4
“What—”
“I wish to marry Your Highness.”
His blue eyes, flicking between the hand she offered and her face, widened in shock.
It was sheer astonishment. And he wasn’t the only one stunned.
Behind her, Harry shouted her name loudly—“Veronica!”—and every onlooker gasped in disbelief.
Even Asar, who had come to propose to her, couldn’t hide his surprise.
Only Veronica remained calm.
“I have come to admire you, His Highness Crown Prince Cassian Teron.”
Her voice was oddly composed for a declaration of love—neither bold nor shy, lacking any trace of typical bashfulness.
Her expression was stiff and completely devoid of a smile, as if merely reciting lines from a script, revealing not the slightest hint of genuine affection.
Yet Veronica stood resolute.
“I hope His Highness Prince Cassian will propose to me.”
“…….”
“I wish to share my future with Your Highness.”
At Veronica’s words, Cassian frowned. His expression clearly read, “What nonsense is this?”—and for good reason, since it truly was nonsense.
Veronica gave a faint smile. Cassian briefly opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it again.
His eyes swiftly scanned the drawing room before settling back on her.
“Let’s… talk privately.”
* * *
Cassian Teron Diasta.
The fifth prince of the Diasta Empire and Asar’s half-brother.
They had never shared any significant connection in any world.
They’d shown each other so little interest that even the brushing of their sleeves had been insignificant, and they could count on one hand the number of conversations they’d ever had. Yet Veronica knew him well.
She had seen his face countless times, and their eyes had occasionally met—because Asar had cherished that man dearly.
Between Veronica and Asar, he had always been present—even when she hadn’t wanted him there.
Perhaps Veronica had unwittingly come between Asar and Cassian.
Regardless, both of them had been forced to see each other’s faces and learn about one another, despite not wanting to.
Consequently, they had grown quite mutual in their dislike.
She had envied him—the one Asar uniquely cared for and favored. And Cassian…
“Someone like you isn’t suited for Asar.”
He had never acknowledged her.
Though he hadn’t made it overt, it was impossible to miss.
His gaze toward her always carried boredom, and his expression was perpetually one of disapproval—
just as it was right now.
Veronica stared blankly at the man seated across from her, brimming with wariness. Even as their eyes met, Cassian didn’t soften his expression.
They were now alone in another drawing room, at his suggestion.
“Miss Veronica Hardness.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“Now that we’re alone, let’s speak honestly.”
“Yes. I love Your Highness enough to want to share my future with you.”
“…That’s not what I meant.”
Cassian, flustered, quickly cut her off.
“Do you know that Asar came here to propose to you?”
“Yes, I do. He told me just a moment ago. That’s precisely why I politely declined His Highness Prince Roel and confessed my feelings to you, Your Highness.”
“What absurd—”
He nearly shouted before clamping his mouth shut, visibly restraining his temper. He pressed his fingers hard against his brow and let out a deep sigh.
“What’s your reason for suddenly doing this?”
“I’m not sure what you mean.”
“Miss Hardness. Not long ago—in fact, just yesterday—you said you wanted to marry Asar. Rumors are spreading everywhere that the heiress of House Hardness fell gravely ill with a fever and nearly died. Now, suddenly claiming you love me—how could anyone possibly believe that?”
“Why wouldn’t they? People’s feelings can change so easily. And it’s not as if I’m harboring any ill intentions. After all, His Highness Prince Roel never once returned my feelings. Isn’t it perfectly reasonable to abandon unrequited love and seek a new affection?”

“…….”
“Though of course, Your Highness would know that better than anyone.”
You couldn’t possibly be unaware. You’ve watched our relationship more closely than anyone else.
You must have witnessed every moment—how I was obsessed with Asar, used by him, and ultimately discarded. Perhaps you’ve even known all along that he’s been deceiving you.
I don’t resent him. It’s my own fault for being fooled.
Veronica watched the man lost in thought with detached indifference. This was the first time she was seeing up close a face she’d always observed from a careful distance.
His features were slightly younger than she remembered, yet not as unfamiliar as she’d expected—almost as if she’d seen him this way before.
Soon, Cassian lifted his head. Veronica already knew what he was about to say.
“Then I suppose I must give you my answer. I appreciate your feelings, Miss Hardness, but I must decline.”
“Aren’t you refusing too quickly? Without even a moment’s hesitation?”
“There’s no reason for me to hesitate.”
“Aren’t you concerned I might be hurt?”
Caught off guard, his expression stiffened.
“About that… I am sorry.”
“Ahaha.”
“…Why are you laughing?”
“It’s just funny.”
And with that, Veronica laughed cheerfully. Cassian’s face immediately twisted in irritation.
“Your Highness Prince Cassian. I don’t know how you’ll take this, but frankly, your feelings aren’t all that important to me.”
“What do you mean?”
“You will marry me.”
Cassian’s frown deepened further.
“What makes you so certain?”
Veronica’s smile only grew wider. Even after being rejected, she didn’t lose her composure.
The gentle smile on her lips looked strangely elegant and refined—unlike anything he’d seen from her before.
She placed a hand over her chest and spoke.
“Because that’s what I desire.”
Veronica was confident—overflowing with certainty that she would make it happen: Cassian proposing to her.
And why wouldn’t she be? For her, nothing was impossible—except for the tragedies already preordained. If needed, she could simply return to the past again and again.
“We will surely be married. Without a doubt.”
“Hah.”
Cassian stared at her, dumbfounded. His brief, hollow laugh vanished quickly, and he turned his head away as if he no longer wished to continue the conversation.
“My answer will never change.”
“Don’t be so certain. The future is unpredictable, after all.”
“…I’ve given my answer. I’ll take my leave now.”
“Leaving so soon? Why not tour the estate first? You’ll eventually come live here someday—wouldn’t it be good to see it ahead of time?”
“Who on earth said I’d come live here?”
Cassian snapped. Veronica brushed off his irritation lightly.
“I suppose I could go to the Imperial Palace, but I am, after all, the only daughter of House Hardness. Father has no one else but me—he won’t grant permission easily.”
“You’re not making any sense… Never mind. Let’s just drop it.”
Afraid she’d say something even more nonsensical, Cassian immediately stood up.
Watching him head toward the door, Veronica rose from her seat as well.
Cassian halted just as he opened the door. Over his shoulder, Veronica spotted a familiar figure—
a man with platinum hair and the same blue eyes as Cassian: Asar.
“Why are you waiting? I told you to go ahead.”
“We should still go together.”
Cassian quickly approached and pulled Asar by the shoulder.
“Let’s go.”
“Okay. Then, Miss Hardness.”
Asar’s gaze landed on Veronica behind Cassian.

She stood silently, watching the two of them. When their eyes met, he gave her a gentle smile.
Though he’d come to propose, not only had he been rejected, but his younger brother had just been confessed to.
It must have been an incredibly awkward and unpleasant situation for him, yet his kind and somewhat boyish face showed no trace of irritation.
His clear features shimmered in the sunlight.
“We’ll meet again.”
“…….”
She offered no reply. A hint of awkwardness flickered across Asar’s face.
Cassian, who’d been observing the exchange from the side, grew even more irritated and pushed Asar’s back.
As Asar reluctantly turned away, Veronica’s voice drifted over.
“See you again, Your Highness Prince Cassian.”
Cassian’s steps faltered for a moment. He glanced back briefly.
“That won’t happen.”
He declared it firmly before turning away as well.
Asar walked off, limping slightly on his left leg. Cassian matched his pace slowly, as if it were only natural to fall into step with him.
Though Cassian wanted nothing more than to rush away immediately, he restrained the impulse out of consideration for Asar.
Then, unexpectedly, Cassian glanced back once more.
Perhaps aware of the persistent gaze following him, his expression hardened the instant he turned.
Veronica was smiling at him.
Veronica watched the carriage disappear beyond the window, then drew the curtain shut.
Her heavy gaze drifted to the carpet, intricately embroidered with floral vines.
Her expression was unreadable. The maid watching her hesitantly approached and asked,
“Young Lady, if you’re tired, why not lie down on the bed?”
“…….”
There was no reply. The maid stood there, unsure whether to leave or stay.
Suddenly, Veronica clutched the curtain and burst into laughter.
The short giggle quickly grew louder, as if she could no longer hold it back. The maid’s eyes widened in alarm.
“Young Lady?”
“Ahaha. No, it’s nothing. I’m just happy. I’m in an especially good mood today.”
What on earth could have her so happy? Just moments ago, the prince she’d pined for had visited—could there have been good news?
Veronica wore a smile as bright as the daylight, but the maid couldn’t help but feel a chill run down her spine.

this chapter was extremely sad. I like the fact that the author keep emphasizing on her past life, like not to let go her trauma. I i have read many fast pace regression novels when as soon as fmc finds love everything else just goes really fast and nothing else matters almost as if forgetting the revenge which was suppose to be the priority, so far loving this novel i hope they don’t ruin it.
I can totally understand the fmc she don’t want fake friends cause she already has a experience where she thought someone was her friend but they where only using her for her status. I mean its always hard to trust people when u been betrayed badly. I can totally understand her having trust issues.
she must be thinking something really romantic is going on between them. If only she knew what her favorite is scheming in that head of hers.
