The physicians who meticulously examined the victims of the mages’ curse now firmly declared that they had fully recovered. Jackie, an apprentice cook from the Lily Palace kitchen, blinked her eyes a few times and got out of bed.

At first, when she had just opened her eyes, she had no idea what had happened to her. She had felt dazed, as if waking from ordinary sleep, but during her examination, faint memories slowly returned.

She’d been scolded by a senior cook for slacking off while washing dishes. Grumbling to herself, she’d plunged her hands back into the basin—then an excruciating pain overwhelmed her. It was agony unlike anything she’d ever felt before, and she must have groaned until she passed out.

‘I think I had a really scary dream…’

Darkness with form. Terror with blood-red teeth. She recalled a nightmare where those things swarmed over Jackie, crushing her beneath their weight.

She couldn’t tell how long she’d endured in that pitch-black void, her mind filled only with thoughts of “death.” Just as she’d felt certain she was about to die, she spotted a silhouette surrounded by a faint glow.

Jackie had dashed mindlessly toward that figure—but woke up just before reaching her, lying in bed instead. And then she saw her, standing drenched in the middle of the infirmary.

‘She was truly beautiful…’

The physician examining Jackie said, “If it weren’t for the Lily Palace Princess, you’d have died.”

Still dazed, Jackie left the infirmary and returned to the Lily Palace. She beamed brightly and told the cooks—who welcomed her with tear-filled eyes—

“You know what? The Princess saved me. Can you believe it? Though I’ve never even seen her, she came into that dreadful nightmare to rescue me!”

When Kirshan returned after being turned away, only the knight captains remained in the infirmary. Adrian spoke.

“Hexton went home with his child.”

“Oh, I see.”
