College life is really, really busy.

It’s busy with studying, but socializing takes up a big chunk too.

From the moment freshmen enroll, they go through a welcome party for new students, a dorm welcome event, and even a first-meeting dance party.

On top of that, there are small gatherings in the dorm where people from the same floor or of the same gender get together to share ice cream—and surprisingly, those little things drain your energy so much that you return to your dorm room completely exhausted and limp.

Harvard even analyzes personality traits from the housing application submitted before enrollment and matches roommates accordingly—mostly pairing people with opposite personalities.

In other words, they throw an Adrian-type and a Victor-type into the same room and make them get along. Even back in the dorm room, you keep clashing with your polar-opposite roommate, continuing your social training.

“Are you up?”

I had chatted away in the dorm lobby until 2 a.m. yesterday, collapsed from exhaustion, and fallen asleep—but when I opened my eyes, morning sunlight was already brightly shining, as if it were a lie.

“Ruby…”

“You stayed up late gossiping again and totally wrecked your voice. I brewed some tea for you—drink it before you go, Juno.”

Ruby, an international student from Australia, is my roommate assigned by the school.

True to being chosen as my exact opposite, she moves so quietly that not a single sound is made with each step. She says showers take her two hours normally—and three if she’s really getting serious. In the dorm, she wears silk pajamas and a hairband.

The noble lady’s silk pajamas clash starkly with my checkered sleepwear. But then again, who am I? Back in high school, wasn’t I the one who hung out with three queen bees, an occult family, and a fiercely competitive school newspaper reporter?
