After receiving help from the priest, Natasha set off for the village, accompanied by the knights Zieghart had assigned to her.

Upon reaching her destination, she glanced back over her shoulder. It was difficult to carry out her plan with the knights trailing her like shadows. She needed to shake off those who, under the guise of escorting her, were actually keeping watch.

As she walked aimlessly, lost in thought, a shop caught her eye. She immediately stopped in front of it—a perfect excuse readily available.

“I’d like to walk alone for a bit. Would you please step back?”

“We are forbidden from letting you act without our accompaniment. It is the Duke’s order.”

“I merely thought it would be awkward to bring you gentlemen all the way inside that shop.”

Natasha gestured toward the storefront ahead. The knights turned their heads solemnly—and after a moment, one by one, looked flustered.

“…Very well. We shall wait out front. Please go ahead comfortably.”

Seeing her resolve, the knights eventually relented.

Inside the shop, she was momentarily startled by the overtly suggestive items on display. The Empire was clearly more liberal than the Kingdom. Both the customers browsing casually and the clerks kindly explaining usage felt utterly unfamiliar to her.

A short while later, Natasha took out the robe she had stowed in her bag and wrapped it around herself. Then, slipping out alongside a group of departing customers, she left the shop unnoticed.

Her next destination was a nearby jeweler’s.

“I’d like to sell a few items.”

“Yes, yes. What would you like to sell?”

Natasha handed over two pieces of jewelry she had taken from her jewel case to the indifferent-looking jeweler.

“How much could I get for these?”

The jeweler turned the items over in his hands, his expression shifting to astonishment. Naturally—what the customer had brought was far too rare for such a modest shop to handle.

He agonized over pricing, knowing the owner of such fine goods must be well-versed in market rates, making it impossible to haggle too aggressively.

Finally, he quoted a price slightly higher than usual—about ten percent above market.

“Would one hundred twenty gold suffice?”

“One hundred gold. Round and clean.”

“…One hundred gold?”

“Shall I raise it back to one hundred twenty?”

“Oh—no, no. We’ll go with one hundred gold.”

Natasha kept lowering the price, as if bargaining for someone else.

These were clearly not fakes… The jeweler eyed the gems suspiciously but, fearful of losing such a customer, quickly prepared the payment.

“Here’s your one hundred gold.”

Natasha didn’t even bother checking the bundle’s contents.

“Let’s make a deal. Every week, I’ll come sell jewels at low prices like today. In return, you’ll keep your mouth shut—never disclosing to anyone who sold you these pieces or when you bought them.”

“…E-Every week? At low prices?”

Instead of answering, she firmly reiterated the need for secrecy in their arrangement.

[This is the timeline separator]

From that day on, Natasha visited the village whenever she had time to sell her jewelry.

The evening before her next outing, she opened her jewel case as usual—and sensed something odd.

‘This is…’

Unfamiliar ornaments occasionally appeared among her collection. These definitely hadn’t been there just last week.

Just to be sure, she counted the pieces—and found there were more than the previous day.

‘Why are there more now?’

It was unthinkable that someone else had mistakenly entered the Duke and Duchess’s bedroom and carelessly placed their own items inside her case.

If they were gifts meant for her, they wouldn’t be hidden discreetly in the case—they’d be presented in lavish wrapping.

The only plausible explanation was that someone had secretly added them.

‘…Zieghart. It must be his doing.’

He immediately became the prime suspect in her mind.

‘How much does he know?’

Her grip tightened on the pendant. Frustration surged—she felt certain he’d uncovered her plan once again.

“My Lady, what are you doing there?”

Seeing Natasha fidgeting restlessly, Kayena approached with a cup of tea.

“Oh dear, you look terribly pale! Please calm yourself and have some freshly brewed tea.”

“…Yes, I’ll take a cup.”

Sipping the tea gently soothed her rattled nerves. Even after swallowing, the sweet aroma lingered pleasantly in her mouth.

“Do you like it? It’s the most famous tea from my homeland. You used to drink it often, remember? You always enjoyed it back then.”

“Really? It smells a bit stronger than I remember.”

“I mixed in some other herbs this time. Shall I prepare it like this again?”

“Not too often, but… every now and then?”

“Hehe, leave it to me.”

Kayena’s kindness seemed to ease Natasha’s anxiety—yet her gaze, drifting unconsciously toward the jewel case, reignited her tension. Her heart now pounded faster than before, steeped in unease.

She buried her nose in the teacup, seeking calm. As Kayena had promised, her nerves did seem to steady.

After asking for another brew, she waited for Zieghart alongside the freshly filled teapot—stiff as a condemned prisoner awaiting execution.

Not long after, Zieghart entered the bedroom, having finished his duties.

His eyes fell on the same spot as hers—coincidentally, the pendant resting beside the jewel case.

She was astonished that his expression remained utterly unchanged despite the awkward situation. Zieghart calmly walked over and seated himself as if nothing were amiss.

She took a small sip from the teacup on the table.

Whether it was because she’d been caught and now had nothing left to lose, or because Kayena’s specially brewed tea held some hidden power, Natasha suddenly found herself brimming with resolve.

“I won’t be going out this week. In fact, I think I’ll refrain from outings for the time being. Please pass this message along to the priest who visits weekly.”

“Your rebellion ended sooner than expected.”

Once again, he asked no questions—only shifting his gaze quietly.

Beyond his clear eyes lay his target—red, just like Zieghart’s beautiful crimson irises.

Before Natasha could speak again, he cut in, murmuring languidly:

“So this place is still hell for the princess, I see.”

“…”

“Do you really want to leave that badly?”

His face looked as though wounded.

Natasha was certain this too was another ploy to sway her heart. No matter how many times she told herself it was merely a well-crafted mask, his sorrowful expression kept haunting her.

That’s exactly what she hated. She despised herself for chewing over his fake sorrow—and resented him for going to such lengths to keep her.

“You hate me, don’t you? Isn’t that why you abandoned me?”

Natasha retorted in a pained voice.

“Now that you’re pretending to love me again, did you think I’d foolishly fall for it? What on earth do you want from me that you keep deceiving me like this?”

After pouring out all her resentment, she finally opened her eyes—to find a cascade of black hair swaying right before her.

Zieghart, slightly bowing, cast a perfectly straight shadow over her face. His shadowed visage slowly descended toward hers.

The friction was inevitable.

Soon, their sweet breaths mingled. Stirred by the heat of their entwined bodies, Natasha wrapped her arms around his neck. At some point, Zieghart had also begun holding her nape and back.

Their silent kiss severed the last thread of reason. Fierce yet lingering contact set their bodies aflame—and for some reason, Natasha found herself craving the continuation of that sudden, will-less embrace.

The occasional sound of their lips parting ceased. Only after releasing a heated sigh did they finally pull apart. Beyond the finished kiss lingered insatiable greed. In each other’s eyes, they saw instinct—drenched deep in crimson.

“Don’t leave, Tisha.”

“…”

“Stay here—with me—forever. Your presence as a princess is all I desire.”

She knew she ought to push away that dark hand. She mustn’t be seduced by his sinister smile and gestures. Yet despite her mind’s resistance, her body refused to obey. Her carefully nurtured caution and suspicion crumbled.

His kiss felt like a drug, clouding her senses. The moment her restraint vanished, raw instinct took over and guided her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck once more. Their long kiss resumed instantly—and the moment that greedy contact ended, Natasha’s body tilted, falling onto the bed.

What happened next, she couldn’t recall.

The last thing she remembered was Zieghart—uncharacteristically flushed, whispering something tenderly—drawing near with an unfamiliar expression.

[This is the timeline separator]

Her memory snapped, as if severed. Only sporadic sensations of hands touching her body remained. Even unconsciously, she felt the sharp pain of firm touches, as if tearing at tender skin.

Then, much later, she sensed another set of hands nearby—Kayena, tidying the bedding beside her.

Her eyes and gestures held no trace of vitality, appearing utterly alien—as if belonging to a stranger. Even the faintest fatigue within her recoiled in alarm.

“…Kayena?”

“Oh! My Lady—you’re awake?”

A lovely smile bloomed on the other’s face. Convinced it was just a hazy illusion, Natasha dismissed the unsettling expression she thought she’d seen.

“Oh—did I wake you? I’m sorry! I was trying to change the sheets quickly…”

“The sheets?”

“Yes. We must wash them fast before the bloodstains set. So I quietly took them while you were asleep and was about to hand them to the maids.”

Looking down, Natasha saw the bloodstain Kayena mentioned—and blushed deeply.

“Oh… I haven’t had my moon flow in so long, I didn’t know when it’d come and failed to prepare. It must’ve started in the middle of the night.”

“Moon flow?”

After a pause, Kayena stared at her with amused wonder—as if at an innocent child—before letting out a soft chuckle.

“Moon flow? No, no. It’s a mark of love. Proof that the two of you shared passionate love last night.”

Though naive, Natasha wasn’t foolish; she understood Kayena’s euphemism well enough. Yet she couldn’t grasp why it pointed specifically to her and Zieghart.

“The sounds from your room last night were so… shameless. I could barely bring myself to walk past! At first, I even thought it was coming from another room!”

“…What sounds?”

“Oh my, the very person who made them keeps asking! Obviously, the sounds of making love.”

Kayena scolded her teasingly for feigning ignorance, then patiently explained again.

To put it bluntly—the Duke and Duchess had spent the night together.

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
