Chloe opened her eyes before the dawn’s gloom had fully lifted. Her body felt so languid it seemed ready to sink through the mattress, yet at the same time, her stomach felt glued to her spine from hunger. She’d stopped eating midday, come straight to this room, and stayed up late into the night… so of course she was starving.

Yet despite eating just as little and using his body just as much, Hughgray slept soundly beside her, seemingly unaware of hunger.

They probably wouldn’t serve breakfast this early… but her stomach kept rumbling loudly. Finally deciding to head down to the first-floor dining room, she carefully opened the door—and blinked in surprise. She peeked out into the hallway, glancing left and right. There was no tray in front of any other room, but right in front of theirs sat a food tray.

Though she’d stayed at this inn many times before, they’d never once delivered food at dawn. It was astonishing—how could the innkeeper have known she’d be hungry at such an early hour? Well, since it was left right outside their door, it must be fine to eat. Overjoyed, she quickly brought the tray inside. Both the bread and soup were still warm, as if freshly made.

Choking slightly on a scone, she reached for her milk, then suddenly set the cup down, startled by a voice chiming like a bell inside her head.

Ah! That’s right—she’d had that dream.

Perhaps because her hunger had eased somewhat, the dream—vanished from her mind the moment she awoke—suddenly came flooding back.

In the dream, she and Hughgray were dining at a restaurant. It was a spacious, bustling place, and every woman seated around them kept smiling at Hughgray. Eventually, a sultry silver-haired woman approached and stared openly into Hughgray’s eyes.

“What would you like to order?”

The woman bent closer, her face inching nearer to Hughgray’s.

Why was she doing that? Why stop taking orders just to stare into another woman’s husband’s face…?

“You’re not meant for some tiger beastkin—you’re mine, wolf beastkin…”

The woman’s face had abruptly transformed into Leina Tilbeth’s.

But that woman was dead! Could she have come back to life? Why was she saying such things to her husband? She hated it!
