Ivenel couldn’t believe it, even though she saw it with her own eyes. What could have possibly happened in the meantime to change the color of her irises?

“How on earth did this happen…?”

In contrast, Suhel’s tone remained perfectly calm as he looked at her.

“This is precisely why I decided not to kill you, my lady.”

“Could it be that Your Majesty already knows something?”

He hadn’t shown the slightest surprise despite surely having noticed her changed eye color since she woke up—it was clear he knew the reason.

“Why did it suddenly change? It’s not like my vision is impaired.”

She could still see clearly, so it wasn’t due to injuries from the monster. Though even then, such a change in eye color wouldn’t normally occur.

At that moment, Suhel asked her a single question, his voice filled with firm conviction.

“When you fired that final shot to bring down the monster, didn’t you see something emanating from it?”

“At that moment…”

As she recalled the frantic situation, a sudden image flashed in her mind—the white light shimmering from the monster’s body.

“Yes. A white light suddenly sparkled, and I shot right at it. And then—”

“You severed the monster’s life with that shot, striking its core precisely.”

“Is that related to why my eyes changed?”

“My lady must have realized it by now. What all these changes truly signify.”

Ivenel fell deep into thought at his words. Suddenly, Aran’s words came rushing back to her.

‘Aodin was granted the ability to pierce through and see a monster’s core.’

Though the thought seemed absurd, she quickly shook her head as if dismissing something impossible.

“That can’t be. I heard the bloodline of Aodin has already died out. Besides, I never possessed that ability to begin with.”

“No, I’m certain. Those white irises prove it. Throughout history, everyone in Aodin who received that ability was said to have pure white eyes.”

That was why Suhel recognized it immediately—he knew the ability, once called the divine blessing, had manifested in her.

He didn’t know why it had suddenly appeared, but that no longer mattered. He wasn’t about to let slip such a golden opportunity—having Ivenel, now gifted with this power, fall right into his hands.

After all, everything changed if a supposedly useless noble lady now possessed the very ability everyone so desperately desired.

“But that’s impossible…”

Ivenel found the whole situation utterly bewildering. She wasn’t originally from Aodin, nor was she truly the duke’s daughter of House Istella. How could such a thing possibly happen?

Besides, wasn’t this body originally meant to die early in the novel?

‘Could it be that because of me, the story has changed, creating this unexpected variable?’

Still unable to believe it, Ivenel turned toward her reflection in the mirror. Upon closer inspection, her white irises sparkled as if dusted with stardust.

The differing colors of her eyes lent an almost mystical aura to her presence.

“Could it be that it wasn’t just a coincidence?”

She proposed a possibility that had just occurred to her.

Perhaps it was merely a one-time miracle born from the extreme urgency of the moment—or from her own desperate wish.

‘She still can’t bring herself to believe it.’

Suhel understood; even he had found it hard to accept at first when he realized she’d gained the ability.

He’d planned to test it properly once Ivenel regained consciousness—to see if it truly was just a one-off miracle, as she claimed.

The ironic part was that his expectations had been overturned once again.

Normally, he’d be the one doubting while she insisted it was real.

“Then let’s verify it. We’ll see whose words hold true.”

“What?”

“Follow me.”

When Suhel opened the door and looked back at her, Ivenel followed without hesitation. She needed closure—only then could she decide what to do next.

[This is the timeline separator]

The moment they stepped out of the palace, Demil appeared at Suhel’s side as if he’d been waiting.

“Are you ready?”

“Yes. But are you sure this is correct?”

While the two exchanged words, Ivenel simply followed silently, having no idea where they were taking her.

Nor did she know how they intended to “verify” anything.

At the end of the path stood a massive building with a dome-shaped ceiling.

Aside from lacking spectator seats, its structure was nearly identical to the arena where she’d nearly died at the hands of the monster.

The only notable difference was the countless inexplicable marks covering the walls, floor, and even the ceiling—deep dents from powerful impacts and sharp gouges as if carved by something razor-edged.

“Where exactly is this place? Is this the same arena I was just in?”

“If that arena was for the public’s entertainment, this place is where we train using monsters.”

“So that’s why live monsters were kept within the imperial palace.”

Ivenel was astonished they’d even consider using uncontrollable monsters in such a manner—and yet, she also sensed Caries’s desperation.

It meant they were willing to go to any lengths to find a breakthrough against the monsters.

“To fight monsters effectively, one must understand them. Hence, we regularly capture live monsters for training.”

Now that she understood this place, it was time to learn why he’d brought her here.

“So why did you bring me here?”

“To properly verify what I mentioned earlier.”

“You don’t mean…”

She hoped the ominous thought that suddenly crossed her mind was wrong, but Suhel’s next words confirmed her worst fears.

“The same way as in the arena just now.”

“You want me to face another monster?”

After barely surviving her last encounter, the idea of throwing her into another fight with a monster was utterly absurd—so much so she wondered if he simply intended to kill her.

“I’ve never even seen a monster until today. I have no idea how to fight one.”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“Why not?”

“Because this time, I’ll be here.”

His confident declaration left Ivenel momentarily speechless. She’d heard many tales of Emperor Caries, but she still found it hard to believe he was strong enough to speak with such absolute certainty.

Not after witnessing firsthand just how terrifying monsters truly were.

“And you don’t need to know any special techniques. Just aim for the core.”

“That doesn’t sound like something you, of all people, should say—someone who knows better than anyone how difficult that is.”

Even if she could see the core, that didn’t guarantee she could destroy it. Dodging the monster’s attacks and seizing that split-second opening was anything but easy.

It literally required risking one’s life.

“If my theory is correct, I won’t let you die.”

“Does that mean if you’re wrong, you’ll let me die?”

“Precisely. Because I’d have no further reason to keep you alive.”

Suhel’s cold reply stirred a stubborn defiance within Ivenel. She didn’t know how this story would unfold, but she refused to die by his schemes.

“At the very least, this won’t be where I die.”

Just then, Demil, who had vanished earlier, reappeared.

“Your Majesty, preparations are complete.”

“Seal the entrance and release the monster.”

As he stepped away, the sound of the door closing behind them echoed through the chamber.

Suhel drew his sword from the scabbard at his waist. The blade, renowned for its sharpness, looked menacing just by sight.

The hilt, adorned with a black gem, was wrapped in a purple serpent motif. It looked oddly familiar—she realized it matched the insignia on Demil’s uniform.

Somehow, even his weapon seemed to mirror his very nature.

At that moment, Suhel pulled something from his opposite hip and tossed it toward Ivenel.

Instinctively catching it, she glanced from him down to the gun now resting in her hands. The black barrel, clearly no ordinary firearm, bore the same serpent design.

It looked as if it belonged to a matched pair with his sword.

Noticing her questioning gaze—wondering why he’d given it to her—Suhel replied nonchalantly.

“You said you don’t want to die. Then use it.”

“Isn’t this yours, Your Majesty?”

“It is.”

“Am I allowed to use it?”

“It doesn’t matter. I prefer the sword anyway.”

Perhaps because it belonged to the emperor, merely holding it lightly felt distinctly different. She examined it carefully and noticed the bullets inside the revolving chamber caught her eye.

Earlier, focused solely on defeating the monster, she hadn’t noticed—but these bullets glowed with a faint bluish hue, clearly unlike ordinary ammunition.

As Ivenel took out a bullet to inspect it closely, Suhel, sensing her curiosity, explained.

“Those are special bullets designed specifically for fighting monsters. Made using monster cores, they can pierce even the toughest monster hide.”

Each tiny bullet was the result of countless trials and relentless effort. Ordinary bullets simply bounced off monster bodies, forcing them to seek another solution.

Ironically, the answer lay close at hand—the monster’s own core.

Since the core was the source of a monster’s life and brimming with energy, even a minuscule amount could unleash tremendous power. In essence, they used monsters to defeat monsters.

“The monster will arrive here shortly.”

Hearing this, Ivenel gradually tensed up.

Had she never encountered a monster before, she might not have been so anxious. But having faced one already, she couldn’t afford to let her guard down.

If she slipped up, she could truly die right here.

‘Did I really gain this ability? Why—of all people—me?’

Suhel’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

“This hardly seems like the time for daydreaming.”

“What?”

No sooner had he spoken than the bars on the opposite entrance opened, and a monster shot out at high speed, soaring into the air above them.

‘What is that?’

If the previous one resembled a wolf, this one looked more like an eagle—though vastly larger and incomparably more fearsome.

Its beak was longer and sharper, and the talons on its two legs looked especially menacing. The monster circled above them, letting out warning cries.

“That’s a Rapiru. Extremely difficult to handle due to its aerial agility. Its feathers are harder than ordinary steel, making them nearly impossible to pierce. It’s also incredibly fast, putting us at a disadvantage in aerial combat.”

As Suhel explained, Ivenel fixed her gaze on the airborne monster, searching for its core.

But before she could focus, Rapiru opened its beak threateningly and began diving straight toward her.

It moved so fast she barely had time to aim her gun.

‘Too late.’

Just then, a hand swiftly grabbed her waist, yanking her aside—narrowly avoiding the monster’s attack.

When she finally came to her senses and opened her eyes, she found herself in Suhel’s arms. Staring at him blankly for a moment, she quickly pushed away and freed herself.

Meanwhile, Rapiru had resumed circling high above.

“Shouldn’t your first words be ‘thank you’?”

“There’s one thing I’d like to make perfectly clear as well. You’re the one who brought me here and created this situation, Your Majesty.”

“This hardly seems like the time to argue about that. So—do you see anything?”

He was right; now wasn’t the time to confront him. Ivenel refocused her attention on Rapiru flying overhead.

‘I see it.’

A distinct white light shimmered clearly against its deep crimson body.

“It’s inside the beak.”

“That settles it. My words were correct.”

“It feels a bit premature to celebrate.”

She kept her eyes locked on the monster, watching for its next move—she had no room to entertain thoughts of celebration.

If there was any silver lining, it was that Suhel now had a reason to assist her.

‘But the enemy is flying in the sky.’

Even for someone like him, hitting a fast-moving aerial target would be nearly impossible. And for her, accuracy would drastically decrease when shooting at something darting rapidly through the air.

Meanwhile, the monster was clearly preparing to strike again the moment it sensed an opening.

Though she’d only experienced it once, the arena fight had greatly helped her understand how to face monsters.

‘It seems I have only one option left.’

Making up her mind swiftly, Ivenel expertly reloaded her gun and turned to Suhel.

“It seems we’ll need to cooperate after all.”

Suhel sensed an immediate shift in Ivenel’s demeanor. Once again, a gun rested firmly in her hands.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
