Suhel was only surprised that Ivenel had brought up the word “cooperation.”

“I’ll attack with my gun to draw its attention and lower its altitude. Then, Your Majesty, you finish it off.”

“Are you giving me orders now?”

“Let’s call it a desperate plea.”

Though her words suggested desperation, her expression was anything but—but Suhel willingly agreed. He wanted to see her skills up close.

‘Well then, let’s begin.’

Ivenel immediately aimed at Rapiru’s wing and pulled the trigger without hesitation. That single shot made it abundantly clear.

“It’s completely different.”

Despite its heavy power, there was almost no recoil, and it fit her hand as if she’d used it for years.

‘Perhaps it really is special, being the Emperor’s weapon.’

Ivenel precisely hit Rapiru’s left wing, but the creature—whose wings were said to be tougher than ordinary steel—merely wobbled for a moment before calmly continuing its flight.

As planned, the monster began focusing its attacks on her.

Even as it approached rapidly with threatening roars, Ivenel never ceased firing. She narrowly dodged its wing feathers while accurately striking its right wing and then its torso in sequence.

‘Impressive.’

Meanwhile, Suhel, watching the scene with apparent ease, became certain he hadn’t been mistaken. Her skill surpassed even that of knights who had trained for years.

And he clearly saw it.

Behind those steady eyes pulling the trigger lay hidden exhilaration and confidence.

Wounded by Ivenel’s calm assault, Rapiru gradually descended lower. But the closer it came to the ground, the fiercer its resistance grew.

‘This body is far too heavy.’

Unlike her peak physical condition as a national representative honed through constant training, her nerves now felt dull and sluggish. Moreover, having already fought one monster earlier, she felt utterly exhausted.

She’d arrived after a long journey without rest—what a stroke of terrible luck this was.

Her dress had long since lost its original elegance from rolling in the dirt. Both the hem and sleeves were torn to the point where it barely resembled a dress anymore.

“Are you really just going to stand there doing nothing?”

Seeing Suhel merely observing the situation without taking any action made Ivenel’s pent-up frustration boil over. While she was suffering like this, he did nothing.

Cornered, she pulled the trigger—but no bullet came out.

‘Of all the times for this to happen.’

Even as she ejected the spent casing and reloaded a fresh round, the monster swiftly closed in on her.

Just as she aimed the barrel directly at it, Suhel stepped in front of her and swung his sword wide.

“Kieeeek!”

With that single motion, Rapiru was sent flying far away.

Though his intervention saved her from danger, Ivenel’s voice came out rather curt.

“I can’t help but think you could’ve helped me a bit sooner.”

“I believe this was precisely the right moment.”

Even as they exchanged such banter, Rapiru charged toward him, letting out an ear-splitting roar. Yet Suhel showed no sign of dodging.

“Now…”

Just as Ivenel was about to tell him to dodge, an unfamiliar energy began emanating from his sword.

‘What is that?’

Though described as formless, it was vividly visible even to her eyes. Soon, black sword energy enveloped the entire blade.

Ivenel quickly realized what it was.

‘The power granted to the Caries Empire to combat monsters.’

It was unmistakably the source of that strength. Though she couldn’t identify it exactly, a palpable dread seeped into her skin, compelling her to step back instinctively.

She feared that if she wasn’t careful, that formless power might slice through her in an instant.

The moment the monster entered range, Suhel—sword wrapped in dark energy—precisely struck the spot Renel had indicated, cleaving it in one stroke.

The body that had withstood even bullets was now horrifically split in two by that power.

“Incredible…”

The pure white light erupting from its core vanished completely, and simultaneously, the black aura surrounding Suhel’s sword faded.

Ivenel stared at the blood dripping from his blade, then collapsed limply onto the ground. Reality finally sank in.

Where she was, what situation she was in, and even this ability—whether fortune or misfortune—she now possessed.

‘I really have ended up in this absurd world.’

She had no choice but to accept that the story was unfolding regardless of her will—the butterfly effect triggered by her decision to survive.

“Hahaha.”

With nothing else to do but laugh at the absurdity, she chuckled. Someone might think she’d gone mad.

Suhel, having sheathed his sword, approached her. Seeing her dazed expression, he spoke bluntly.

“Did you perhaps lose your mind?”

“Wouldn’t it be stranger not to go mad? I’ve narrowly escaped death twice in one day.”

She loosened her grip on the gun, and her fingers began trembling slightly. She couldn’t even feel them anymore. What awaited beyond that door?

At that moment, a hand was extended toward her.

Following the scarred hand upward, she met Suhel’s eyes. When she just stared blankly, he wiggled his fingers.

Take this hand and get up.

Until that very moment, she hesitated—should she really take that hand?

‘I don’t know what lies ahead. But…’

Ivenel took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and rose to her feet leaning on Suhel’s hand. Contrary to his cold gaze, his hand was unexpectedly warm.

There was only one reason she took it: the option of dying had now vanished for her.

‘I don’t want to die just because of fate.’

She’d realized something obvious far too late—that this was her life, and how she chose to live it was entirely up to her.

Thus, she refused to submit to the fate handed to her.

“Now that you’ve seen this, do you have a reason to keep me alive?”

At Ivenel’s question, Suhel abruptly pulled her hand toward him, instantly closing the distance between them.

Looking into her startled white eyes, he slowly spoke.

“Yes. Perfectly so.”

Ivenel had no idea what that meaningful smile truly implied.

[This is the timeline separator]

“Miss, you’re awake?”

Woken by the voice, Ivenel sat up in bed. The aches all over her body confirmed yesterday’s events hadn’t been a dream.

She was currently in the Imperial Palace where Suhel resided.

After everything that had happened yesterday, Suhel had simply left with the words, “Let’s talk properly tomorrow.”

Seeing Ivenel battered and bruised, Lia immediately burst into tears. Though Ivenel herself probably should have been the one crying, she first comforted Lia.

When Lia asked what had happened, Ivenel had no answers to give—nothing had been decided yet.

Exhausted, she’d helplessly succumbed to sleep, and now she was awake again.

“What will happen to us now? Will we be able to return to Aodin?”

Lia, who’d dozed off in a corner of the room, was still trembling with fear. Understandably so.

Anyone would be terrified after nearly dying with a monster right in front of them.

Ivenel herself couldn’t guarantee anything—but there was one promise she could make.

“Lia, I don’t know what lies ahead, but I promise you this: you won’t be put in danger ever again.”

For Lia, who’d come all the way to Caries for her sake and nearly given her life, she was determined to do whatever it took. After surviving death twice, what couldn’t she accomplish?

“You seem like a completely different person, Miss.”

“Really?”

Seeing the usually passive and helpless Ivenel now with such serious eyes left Lia utterly bewildered.

But soon, she nodded firmly, showing she trusted her. Her resolve to stay by Ivenel’s side had never wavered—not since that day in the past when she’d decided to follow her.

And this incident had only strengthened that resolve further.

Just then, a knock came at the door, and Demil stood there.

“His Majesty summons you.”

“Understood. Lia, wait here for me.”

“But…”

“It’s alright. Nothing will happen.”

Following Demil, Ivenel stepped outside the palace.

If Aodin had been in late spring, here it was full autumn. The cloudless sky and crisp breeze made it perfect for outdoor activity.

As she followed him attentively into a building, those who had respectfully bowed to Demil began whispering the moment she passed by.

“Why is someone from Aodin here?”

“Wasn’t she supposed to be dead already?”

Just from that, she could sense how hostile the people here were toward Aodin—so much so they’d casually say she ought to die.

Compared to yesterday’s jeers and insults, this was almost mild.

She followed the silent Demil until they stopped before a door.

“I’ve brought Lady Ivenel.”

“Enter.”

Suhel was seated in formal attire, more polished than yesterday’s, wearing a white shirt—as if he’d been handling state affairs since early morning.

“Sit here.”

Ivenel sat on the sofa Suhel indicated and glanced around with only her eyes. Judging by the desk and the piles of documents and books, this seemed to be his office for official duties.

Having only moved between rooms and gardens in Aodin, she couldn’t help but be drawn to this foreign space.

And Suhel observed every bit of her curiosity.

For someone who’d remained calm even facing a monster, her behavior now seemed oddly naive—or perhaps even this was part of her meticulous plan.

“Anyone would think you’ve never seen an office before. And yet you’re a noble lady of a sovereign state.”

“Oh, I was just wondering how things are different here. You called me because of yesterday’s incident, right?”

Wanting to steer Suhel away from unnecessary curiosity, Ivenel immediately got to the point.

“Yes, we need to discuss your treatment. Of course, the authority to decide rests with me.”

“But yesterday changed things. Your Majesty needs the ability I possess.”

During her journey here, she’d calmly considered her position. Though lacking background knowledge, she knew this wasn’t a disadvantageous situation for her.

After all, she held a powerful bargaining chip.

Noticing her markedly different attitude from yesterday—when she’d lacked confidence in her own ability—Suhel crossed his legs and looked at her.

“It seems you’ve reassessed the value of your own power.”

“Yes. So it looks like you’ll have to negotiate with me.”

He wasn’t particularly surprised—it was somewhat expected. He readily agreed to the negotiation.

After all, even if he did, nothing would truly change.
