In the space filled only with silence, the gazes of two people clashed fiercely. Neither looked away first.

‘Why on earth is he looking at me like that?’

Ivenel wanted to understand the meaning behind the look in Suhel’s eyes.

“Why have you been staring at me like that since earlier? More importantly, could you please let go of me?”

Suhel obediently released the hand gripping her chin at her request.

“It’s annoying.”

“What exactly is annoying?”

Hearing him bluntly say it was annoying naturally left her in a foul mood. If anything, that was something she should have been saying to him.

Suhel spoke honestly and without reservation about what he’d felt while looking at her.

“Everything—from start to finish. That look in your eyes, as if you’d anticipated this situation, and even your tone of voice. It seems far more reasonable to assume someone else came here in place of the real young lady.”

Staring into those pitch-black eyes, like the night sky, Ivenel felt as though she were under a spell, about to speak without even realizing it.

Who was truly hidden beneath the guise of a noble young lady?

Having heard from Lia how this body had lived before, it was only natural he’d harbor such suspicions. Therefore, she absolutely could not afford to show any weakness.

She had to prevent, at all costs, the disaster of having everything exposed to the man before her.

“I lived abandoned, outside everyone’s notice. So isn’t it more reasonable to assume that not everything said about me is necessarily true?”

Suhel could easily accept that reasoning a hundred times over. Yet there remained one thing he still couldn’t fully understand.

“Then what about your marksmanship? You seemed quite skilled handling that gun.”

“I trained secretly whenever I could, away from people’s eyes, because I was interested.”

“A young lady?”

“Is there any reason I shouldn’t? I simply enjoyed doing it.”

Since there was no falsehood in those words, Ivenel could speak confidently. If she’d practiced shooting merely for visible results, she never would have attained this level of skill.

Though Suhel still had unanswered questions, in truth, none of it mattered anymore. And the woman before him seemed completely unaware of why.

“I distinctly said it—what difference is there between us and Aodin? Besides, your reputation as a young lady is already quite poor…”

“Regarding that part… I apologize.”

The immediate apology from Ivenel’s lips made Suhel unable to hide his surprise. Just moments ago, she’d been sharply critical, yet now she surrendered so readily.

Reading his thoughts from his expression, Ivenel herself looked slightly awkward. But soon, her eyes turned serious.

Back then, given the circumstances, she hadn’t realized it—but now, calmly reflecting, she understood she’d said something she shouldn’t have.

Though furious that Lia had been put in danger, she recognized that her own wrongdoing remained separate from that anger.

“I was too agitated then, and words slipped out without passing through my mind first. It was something I shouldn’t have said.”

It was a mistake the usual Ivenel would never have made. But given the situation—and with Aran’s ordeal suddenly coming to mind—she’d lost her composure.

“So now you’re begging for your life, even if it means groveling? Well, you did survive, after all.”

“No. I’m simply acknowledging that I was wrong.”

Even as he deliberately provoked her with those words, her gaze remained steady, without the slightest tremor.

That only stirred more resistance within him. After all, from Suhel’s perspective, Ivenel was practically his sworn enemy.

“What’s your intention in saying that?”

Ivenel honestly confessed the emotions she’d felt in that desperate moment when Lia was about to be torn apart by monsters.

“When I faced the fact that I couldn’t protect even one person of my own, I felt an indescribable emotion—helplessness, defeat, even contempt for myself. Because if it hadn’t been for me, Lia wouldn’t have suffered like that.”

It was the same deep, painful feeling she’d experienced when helplessly watching Aran leave.

Then, suddenly, a thought occurred to her: ‘Perhaps the Emperor himself felt exactly the same.’

“I wondered whether Your Majesty faced an even deeper despair—if you were forced to watch your own people die before your eyes. Of course, I wouldn’t dare presume to fathom the depth of such pain.”

Watching her calmly express her thoughts, Suhel clenched his hands tightly where they rested on his knees.

Then, unable to control the surging emotions provoked by her final words, he roughly shoved Ivenel’s shoulders, pinning her against the bed with both arms.

Ivenel’s momentary panic vanished as she noticed the flickering black eyes before her, and she fell silent. What she saw in them was a fury too profound to measure.

“Those are not words for a young lady of Aodin to speak. It seems Aodin has already forgotten—the bloody massacre that occurred here twenty years ago.”

‘Bloody massacre?’

Of course, Ivenel couldn’t possibly have known. She had no idea what exactly had transpired between the two empires in the past.

Whether he assumed she was feigning ignorance or not, Suhel’s cold voice reached her ear.

“The number of monsters suddenly surged, pushing the Caries Empire to its limits, so we had no choice but to request aid from the Aodin Empire. We handed over everything they wanted—even the imperial heirlooms—to secure their promise. They swore they’d help.”

But once again, Aodin broke that promise all too easily.

“Yet they never showed up. Later, we learned they’d spent the entire night reveling at a banquet—while we fought for days, spitting blood, piling mountains of corpses. And it was the Aodin Emperor and Duke Istella who led that betrayal.”

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

It remained as vivid to him as if it had happened yesterday—the desperate image of his father, kneeling and begging for help.

“That day, we lost much, but we realized something crucial: never again would we rely on that damned Aodin. We vowed to survive by Caries’ strength alone. So don’t you dare prattle on as if you understand everything. Right now, I’m barely restraining myself from killing you.”

In Suhel’s deeply enraged expression, Ivenel could almost see the agonizing history the Caries Empire had endured.

Though they’d ultimately reclaimed peace through their own strength, no matter how much time passed, the wounds and pain they’d suffered would never fade easily.

As a clear outsider, Ivenel could empathize even more—especially regarding Aodin’s current plight.

“So now Aodin is being punished, stripped of all its power. In a way, I think that’s only fair.”

She held Suhel’s gaze unflinchingly as she finished voicing her thoughts.

‘She isn’t afraid at all.’

Even now—after nearly losing her life to monsters—her eyes had never once shown fear.

Suhel still found that irritating. Even as he threatened to kill her on the spot, those calm red eyes kept staring straight at him.

“What exactly do you want to say?”

“I don’t care how Your Majesty chooses to take revenge on Aodin. But please spare Lia. She’s just a child who followed me.”

“And why should I do that?”

“Kill me instead.”

Those words instantly quelled the anger boiling inside him. She was utterly incomprehensible.

He withdrew the arms that had pinned her down, and Ivenel rose steadily, meeting his gaze without wavering.

“Are you truly serious?”

“Yes.”

If giving up her life was the only way to save Lia, Ivenel was willing. After all, this was a life that should have ended long ago—so she felt no regret.

“By executing me as an example, you can clearly demonstrate to Aodin that Caries is no longer what it once was. Isn’t that a fair exchange? Even if you consider releasing my maid merely an act of spite, I wouldn’t mind.”

“Sacrificing your life for a single maid…”

To her, who had once lived in modern-day Korea, social status meant nothing. This was for Lia, who had cared for her when everything felt strange and lonely.

Perhaps it was also her way of slightly easing the guilt she still carried for doing nothing when her younger sibling died.

“She stood up to protect me even when her own life was in danger. So I’m trying to save her, just as she did for me.”

“Even at the cost of your life?”

“Yes—if that’s the only way to save Lia.”

When she coldly assessed her own position, Ivenel knew she had nothing else to offer.

“As Your Majesty well knows, I have nothing else to give but my life. My life isn’t more valuable simply because I’m a noble, nor is hers less so because she’s a maid.”

Though her words seemed perfectly natural from her perspective, they weren’t to Suhel. In this world, social status was an undeniable reality.

And if he turned her statement around…

“So according to your logic, my life and yours hold equal value.”

“In essence, yes. But if one of us must die, it should be me. You lead the Caries Empire, while I’m merely an expendable existence.”

The more Suhel listened to Ivenel, the harder it became to grasp who she truly was—naive as if ignorant of the world, yet acutely aware of her own standing.

She was the first person to fall entirely outside his expectations.

“Aren’t you afraid of death?”

“It would be a lie to say I’m not. But if it means saving Lia, I can accept it humbly. At least I’d be doing something I can.”

After silently listening to her, Suhel finally spoke.

“I won’t kill that maid.”

“Really?”

Relief colored Ivenel’s face at his words. But Suhel wasn’t finished.

“And I won’t kill you either.”

“Why?”

She couldn’t help but be shocked by this unexpected declaration.

He’d just thrown her to the monsters as prey and threatened to kill her moments ago—so why this sudden change of heart?

Instead of answering, Suhel stood, still holding Ivenel’s wrist, and led her to the full-length mirror on one side of the room.

“What are you doing?”

“Look in the mirror.”

At his words, Ivenel turned her head toward the mirror without thinking.

Her eyes met her reflection beyond the unfamiliar platinum-blonde hair, and the stranger in the glass looked back with astonishment.

Quickly stepping closer to the mirror with a disbelieving expression, she raised her hand to her right eye.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
