“I just don’t have much of an appetite.”
“It’s because you’ve been cooped up in your room all day.”
Though several days had passed since she’d awakened in this body, Ivenel hadn’t stepped a single pace outside this room. Her fate was already sealed, so there was no need to learn anything further.
If she stirred things up unnecessarily and people realized she’d changed, it would only bring more trouble.
“Still, the weather’s lovely today—how about a stroll in the garden? Hm?”
Defeated by Lia’s bright, pleading eyes, she finally rose from the bed, which had become as immovable as stone.
“Fine.”
“Take your time. I’ll go ahead and prepare a snack for you.”

Just then, voices from a distance caught her ear.

Hearing her own name, Ivenel instinctively ducked behind a nearby tree. Peeking out cautiously, she saw a small group dressed identically to Lia.

Since each monster’s core was located differently, and destroying a monster required precisely striking that hidden core, Aodin’s assistance was undeniably essential.
Thus, Caries had no choice but to accept even the most excessive demands without complaint.
Sometimes they even swallowed their pride and bowed their heads to beg for help—but Aodin routinely turned them away with various excuses.
After extracting everything they wanted, Aodin would mock Caries in its distress and utterly ignore its pleas.
‘They’re truly despicable cowards.’
Even from Ivenel’s perspective, Aodin’s actions were utterly shameless.
How could they feign ignorance so brazenly, despite having clearly received help themselves when they were in need?

Only after the maids had walked far enough to disappear from sight did Ivenel step out from between the trees. Several mysteries had now been clarified.
Why she’d only seen Lia so far, why she’d been sent specifically to Caries, and why these so-called family members had never shown their faces.
‘They were never family to begin with.’
Realizing this, Ivenel felt the despair this person must have endured was unimaginably vast—perhaps she’d even foreseen her own death.
“No one’s here for you either, just like me.”
A trace of sympathy flickered in her eyes—somehow, their situations felt similar.
The maids’ mocking words, however, barely registered as a blow. In her previous life, having drawn much attention, she was long accustomed to hearing all sorts of remarks.
“After all, I’m not even Ivenel.”
Murmuring flatly, she resumed walking—but this time, paid no attention whatsoever to the scenery around her.
As if the world reflected in her eyes alone had turned colorless.
‘Maybe I should head back now.’
All she wanted was to lie in bed and sleep.
Just as she turned toward the guest wing, a faint yet familiar sound carried through the air, stopping her dead in her tracks.
‘That sound is definitely…’
Compelled as if entranced, Ivenel began walking in the opposite direction. It quickly turned into a run, and soon she was sprinting, guided solely by instinct.

Arriving at an unknown destination, Ivenel lifted her head, her breath ragged from the familiar scent that hit her nose.

Knights who appeared to guard the ducal residence stood at a distance from their targets. Unless her eyes deceived her, they were clearly holding guns.
‘So guns exist here too.’
Instinctively, her gaze locked onto the firearms in the knights’ hands—her eyes sharp and focused, a complete contrast to the helplessness she’d shown since awakening as Ivenel.
“A revolver.”
At a glance, their shape closely resembled what she knew from her past life. Yet one thing made her frown.

While Ivenel was lost in thought, Serina had already closed the distance, linking arms and scanning her up and down with an unpleasant smirk.
