Tae Sang dropped a bombshell and then headed straight down the stairs. Da Jung, watching his retreating back, stood frozen as if struck from behind, eyes wide open in shock.

To go to a man’s house whom she’d only met twice—and at nearly one in the morning, no less.

The very idea that he’d assumed she’d obediently follow him was bewildering enough. Left alone on the spot, Da Jung pressed her toes firmly into the floor, her heels glued in place.

“Oh, I’m not going. I won’t go.”

Even taking a single step forward might be misinterpreted as willingness to comply. Clasping her hands tightly together, Da Jung declared in a firm voice.

At that, Tae Sang stopped beside the car and turned back to look at her. His slightly tilted head and upward gaze were filled with clear skepticism.

Da Jung opened her mouth again, resolute.

“I truly appreciate the offer, but I won’t be going.”

“Why not?”

“Why—why? It’s obviously impossible…”

His expression was so confident it made her momentarily falter. Meanwhile, he looked as if this situation were an everyday occurrence for him.

Was going home with a woman he barely knew truly no big deal to him? Or had she simply appeared so compliant he assumed she’d agree to anything?

Within the span of a single second, her thoughts raced off like a wild, unbridled foal. Da Jung blinked nervously and lowered her gaze. Her clasped hands fidgeted restlessly against her thighs.

“I’ll be leaving again shortly.”

Tae Sang, quietly observing her entwined fingers, slowly spoke. His voice was low but firm—difficult to refuse.

“…What?”

“I’m just taking Han Da Jung home, then leaving again.”

“Oh…”

She’d impulsively imagined something entirely inappropriate at the phrase *going home*. Realizing his actual intention belatedly, Da Jung awkwardly continued.

“Then… I really can’t go. I can’t brazenly take over someone else’s house.”

“It’s far more brazen to wander the streets alone at night. So hurry up and come here.”

He spread his large hand and gave a light, beckoning flick—a gesture reminiscent of calling over a wary, timid creature.

The unexpectedly cute motion, utterly unbecoming of a man, made Da Jung involuntarily let out a soft chuckle. Instantly, the tension lingering in the air dissipated.

Da Jung, her expression now noticeably lighter, finally stepped forward. Persuading this stubborn man would have to wait for another time.

“Someone might mistake you for picking up a stray cat off the street.”

“A cat would honestly be better.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because cats don’t lie or throw tantrums.”

“I—I don’t do those things on purpose…”

Keeping her eyes on Tae Sang’s face, Da Jung descended the stairs. The dim light obscured her view, causing her to miss the final step entirely.

“Ah!”

Expecting flat ground, she stepped forward only to find open space—her body dropped abruptly. Da Jung lurched sideways and awkwardly stomped down the last stair.

Her heel twisted sharply outward, and her leg gave way like a tree felled at its base. Desperately, she reached out toward the railing, already slipping away.

In an instant, Tae Sang sprang out of the darkness like a wild beast. Anticipating the exact point of her fall, he spread his arms and caught her effortlessly.

“…”

The weighty arm encircling her waist, the firm contours of his chest pressing against her—Da Jung exhaled a trembling breath, nestled in an unfamiliar yet solid embrace.

“Are you alright?”

His voice, thick with concern, resonated above her head. Da Jung nodded dumbly before belatedly replying.

“Oh, yes. I’m fine.”

“Ha…”

A deep sigh escaped him, his broad chest rising and falling heavily once.

Though clearly a sigh of relief, he instinctively tightened his arms further around her—as if his unconscious had seized control from his reason.

“I—I’m okay now.”

Da Jung gently pushed against his chest as she spoke.

Slowly, Tae Sang loosened his grip around her waist. Reluctant to release her slender frame, his hands kept involuntarily clenching.

He squeezed the air firmly to wrest control back from his disobedient hands—then his worried gaze dropped abruptly to her ankle.

“It looks sprained.”

“Yes. A little.”

Da Jung tested her injured foot with slight pressure. A dull ache flared, but it wasn’t unbearable. As she took a tentative, limping step, Tae Sang’s hand tightened urgently.

“Don’t put weight on it. It’ll only get worse.”

“But if I don’t, I can’t walk…”

Before she could finish her sentence, Tae Sang moved beside her. Slipping an arm around her shoulders, he gently pulled her toward his chest.

“Relax.”

He lowered his head slightly as he spoke. His breath brushed her ear, sending a ticklish shiver down her spine.

Startled, Da Jung instinctively tried to shy away—but her small attempt was swiftly thwarted.

“If it doesn’t hurt now but you keep straining it, you’ll suffer for a long time.”

“…”

Beneath his thin shirt, his body felt solidly muscular—likely from varied physical training, making sprains and injuries routine for him.

Da Jung released the tension in her ankle and slowly leaned into him. She had no desire whatsoever to suffer long-term, as he’d warned. In response, Tae Sang briefly brushed her shoulder—like a silent, approving pat.

Supporting her full weight, he helped her down the remaining stairs. Two mismatched shoes touched the ground, one after the other.

“I… you can let go now.”

“…”

Tae Sang slowly withdrew his hands and stepped in front of her. His expression remained deeply concerned, and he stood close enough to grab her arm again at any moment.

Da Jung awkwardly ducked her head, averting her eyes. It was hard to forget, even briefly, the sensation of their bodies pressed so closely together.

She brushed her hair aside, trying to redirect her gaze—and spotted his car, empty in the front seat. She shot him a puzzled look.

“Did your secretary and driver leave already?”

“I sent them home while you were asleep.”

“Oh…”

Da Jung, the very person who’d been sleeping, couldn’t hide her embarrassment.

“They must’ve had an uncomfortable trip because of me. Please pass along my apologies.”

“Alright.”

Having answered briskly, Tae Sang walked steadily toward the car. Opening the passenger door, he fixed his gaze on Da Jung—his meaning unmistakably clear: *Get in.*

Though she understood his intent, Da Jung hesitated, unable to move right away.

Tae Sang wasn’t just any stranger—he was an executive at her own company. Visiting a colleague’s home casually was one thing; this was entirely different.

Avoiding his eyes with uncertainty, she flinched when he spoke in a firm, almost stern tone.

“Are you still stubbornly refusing, even with that ankle?”

“I’m fine.”

“Han Da Jung.”

Setting the open car door aside, Tae Sang slowly approached her.

Standing with his back to the headlights, darkness fell heavily over his face, obscuring his expression and making her even more tense.

Just as she silently held her breath, he stopped abruptly a step in front of her and spoke calmly.

“What are you afraid of?”

“What? What do you mean—”

“Are you afraid of me? Or is it something else?”

“…”

His blunt question left Da Jung speechless.

If he knew what she was worrying about, what would he think?

Even without asking, she could imagine his baffled expression: *Wait—you’re *worried* about *me*?*

With a voice barely above a whisper, she finally managed to speak.

“It’s just… I was worried rumors might spread. That could cause trouble for you.”

“I’ll handle that. So just accept the kindness.”

“…”

“Go ahead—answer.”

When she remained silent, Tae Sang gently urged her forward—a careful yet firm coaxing, like guiding a frightened child into water.

Da Jung swallowed hard and slowly began to speak.

“Th-thank you. I’ll… rely on you just for tonight.”

“…”

In an instant, Tae Sang’s cool gaze softened. Simultaneously, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly, transforming his sharp features into something astonishingly gentle.

Da Jung quietly took in his boyish expression—a smile too precious to remain hidden behind his usual blank facade.

“Let’s go.”

With that single, crisp word, his large hand suddenly appeared before her. Da Jung briefly regarded the now-familiar hand, then placed her small one atop it.

– Ding.

The elevator came to a smooth stop, accompanied by a cheerful arrival chime. Tae Sang pressed the open button and waited for Da Jung to step out first.

Exiting the narrow space, they entered a brightly lit, wide corridor. Dragging her bag cautiously behind her, Da Jung felt the sleek marble floor cling softly to her shoe soles.

She stood awkwardly beside a large brown door. Since the entire floor was designed for a single residence, no further guidance from him was needed.

– Drring.

After unlocking the door, Tae Sang once again gestured for Da Jung to enter first. As she stepped inside, a soft, warm yellow light poured gently down from above.

“Wow…”

The moment her vision adjusted, an involuntary exclamation slipped out.

The spacious shoe cabinet was several times larger than those found in ordinary homes, and the hallway connected to it led seamlessly past the living room all the way to the terrace.

Had it not been so dark outside, she might have stood right there by the cabinet, gazing out at the view.

“Put these on.”

Tae Sang, having closed the door behind them, pulled out a brand-new pair of slippers from the cabinet. Da Jung carefully slipped her small feet into the plain, neat beige slippers.

Tae Sang put on an identical pair lying on the floor and headed toward the living room first.

“Come in.”

“I—I’ll be careful.”

Tae Sang quietly observed Da Jung tiptoeing in behind him.

Aside from Secretary Kim and the housekeeper, no one else had ever entered this home. Watching Da Jung step into this fortress-like, impenetrable space felt like observing a small deer willingly walk into a trap.

Da Jung stretched her neck like a cautious tortoise, surveying the interior. After completing her inspection, a short, impressed exclamation escaped her.

“Wow… Your house is really spacious.”

The square-shaped living room resembled something you’d see in a building lobby rather than a private residence.

Da Jung scanned the enormous living room with her eyes, then stopped uncertainly at its far edge.

“It’s a space I barely use.”

“Yes…”

Nodding faintly—thinking that such a vast space *would* likely go unused—she was caught off guard when Tae Sang abruptly closed the distance between them.

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
