“Since you don’t have a flight tomorrow anyway, feel free to rest here as late as you like.”

“How could I do that? I’ll leave after staying a reasonable while.”

“I’m not sure exactly what’s in there, but you can take anything from the fridge and eat it.”

“Okay.”

“If there’s anything you need, go ahead and use it.”

“Yes…”

Was it anxiety over the man—who had acted like her guardian all day—suddenly vanishing? His words, which sounded like a farewell, slowly tightened her chest.

Da Jung couldn’t shake off her confused feelings. She had assumed being together would feel awkward and uncomfortable—so why did the thought of him leaving fill her with such worry?

Unable to speak further, she could only manage a faint nod.

“Get to sleep quickly.”

That brief sentence was all he said. She had half-expected him to at least change clothes before leaving, yet he seemed to have no such intention at all.

“U-umm…!”

In the fleeting moment Cha Tae Sang brushed past her side, Da Jung unconsciously clutched the hem of his jacket tightly.

“…?”

Turning his head to check the source of the sudden weight on his coat, Tae Sang halted quietly in place. His gaze, tinged with curiosity, settled on Da Jung’s face.

Da Jung’s face flushed with embarrassment. Not even she understood why she had done it—her eyes just widened, rabbit-like, in utter bewilderment. As she stood frozen, blinking silently, Tae Sang spoke first.

“Is there something else you need?”

“Huh? Oh—no, no. It’s not that…”

Da Jung startled and hastily released his jacket, then clasped her hands tightly behind her back, as if reprimanding them. Her throat felt parched, as if burning from within.

She decided to answer his question first—at least that seemed easier than justifying her impulsive action.

“I—I don’t need anything. You bought so much medicine I couldn’t possibly finish it all in a lifetime, and besides… you said I could use anything in this huge house, so how could I possibly need anything more?”

As she spoke, Da Jung recalled the bulky, lumpy bag tucked inside her own.

On the way home, Tae Sang had stopped by a pharmacy and purchased a massive quantity of medicines and bandages—as if he’d practically emptied the entire store. Yet even then, his expression remained grave.

‘I bought everything that seemed necessary… but maybe I missed something.’

‘No, why did you buy so much all at once?’

‘I wasn’t sure what was best.’

‘But still—you bought *everything*? Even first-aid kits aren’t this thoroughly stocked!’

Da Jung let out an unintentionally weary chuckle.

Tae Sang narrowed his eyes slightly, studying her face intently. His dark eyes conveyed clear impatience, urging her to continue.

Pressured by his intensity, Da Jung spoke up.

“I was just wondering—where will you sleep at this late hour? And why leave without even changing your clothes…?”

She couldn’t even tell anymore who was worrying about whom. Tae Sang could easily find lodging anywhere across the vast expanse of Seoul.

Moreover, staying in the same space as him meant *she* would end up burdened with extra concerns. Realizing she’d rambled on with foolish anxieties, Da Jung quietly clamped her mouth shut, as if hitting a mute button.

“I’ll stay at the Hyo Sung Hotel. Sleepwear should already be prepared in the room, and I can just hand over these clothes for laundry service.”

“Oh…”

Da Jung belatedly remembered that the Hyo Sung Group also operated hotels. To him, it was practically like home—so naturally, he hadn’t felt the need to mention it.

“Right… you can just go there. But won’t driving again at this hour be tiring?”

“It’s fine. I’m not used to sleeping for long periods anyway.”

“Oh—what about reservations? Can you even book a room this suddenly? There might be vacancies, but premium rooms are always in high demand…”

“Any room is fine.”

“Oh… I see.”

Da Jung, who had been chirping away like a chick, awkwardly fell silent. A quiet hush then settled over the spacious room. Slowly lowering her gaze, she softly murmured,

“Th-then… good night…”

“Do you wish I wouldn’t go?”

Tae Sang asked, his voice brimming with certainty.

Her large, trembling eyes, her pink lips repeatedly drawn inward—her anxious expression unmistakably pleaded for him to stay.

He felt a sudden, irrational urge to grasp the small hand clutching his coat hem. The thought flickered through his mind before vanishing.

“I asked—would you prefer it if I… stayed here?”

“No! Th—that’s not it—I just feel guilty, truly guilty. Kicking out the owner sits uncomfortably with me… and also, going out again this late seems tiresome…”

Though her words were jumbled, as she rambled on, she finally understood her own actions.

What had made her hold onto Tae Sang was guilt—an uneasy feeling toward someone who silently shouldered everything and prepared to vanish alone. There was no other way to explain it.

With her thoughts now neatly sorted, her heart felt considerably lighter. Looking up at Tae Sang, she carefully spoke again.

“If—if it’s alright with you, Deputy Managing Director… maybe you could stay tonight, after all.”

“…”

“It’s not like I’m giving permission or anything—you own this house originally, so… I just thought you might be more comfortable staying.”

Tae Sang examined Da Jung’s face with a thoughtful expression.

Her clear eyes shone with utter transparency—as if revealing everything within. Consequently, his own dark, reluctant desire to linger beside her, feigning helplessness or ignorance, lay wholly exposed.

He quickly averted his gaze and spoke, as if fleeing.

“As you can see, this house is excessively large.”

“…?”

“There’s even a bathroom attached to the guest room.”

“So…?”

“What I mean is—we could stay under the same roof without any inconvenience.”

“Oh… right.”

Da Jung nodded faintly in reply. Showing excessive delight would seem odd, yet expressing disappointment would also be awkward. Opting for a neutral response, she watched as Tae Sang briskly strode toward the shoe cabinet.

Wondering what he intended to do, Da Jung craned her neck to follow him. He picked up the abandoned trolley and soon returned to the living room.

With a light glance signaling her to follow, Tae Sang crossed the long hallway. Da Jung carefully trailed behind him, mindful of her injured ankle.

On either side of the corridor hung a door each, and one additional room stood at the far end. Another passageway branched off opposite the living room—meaning this house contained at least six rooms.

At this size, even staying a full week wouldn’t guarantee they’d cross paths. As she glanced at the row of doors with this thought, they arrived at the guest room.

“The housekeeper always keeps it tidy, so the room should be in good condition.”

Tae Sang opened the door as he spoke. When he switched on the light, Da Jung curiously scanned the interior.

A bed draped in a plush-looking white comforter stood centered in the room, flanked on both sides by ivory-colored bedside tables featuring an antique design.

Struggling to keep her jaw from dropping, Da Jung stepped cautiously inside. Through the long window on the opposite wall, the city’s lights twinkled brightly.

“The room is really beautiful.”

“I wouldn’t know about that…”

Tae Sang continued as he leaned the trolley against the wall.

“But it should be clean.”

Though his remark sounded somewhat blunt, it was perhaps natural coming from someone who actually lived in this house. He pointed toward a door on the opposite side.

“All essentials should be prepared in the bathroom as well.”

“Thank you…”

As Da Jung politely began her gratitude, a flicker of unease crossed her face. She’d just remembered—far too late—that she lacked the most essential item after bathing: sleepwear.

Had she returned from a long-haul flight involving rest, her trolley would have contained nightclothes. But, unfortunately, today’s flight had been a painfully short turn-around trip.

Should she just sleep in her uniform? Or perhaps bare down to her underwear? As she agonized between these two bleak options, Tae Sang tilted his head slightly.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Oh—nothing, really.”

Since she was already borrowing his home, she didn’t want to ask for clothes too. Da Jung quickly waved her hands and forced an awkward smile.

But Tae Sang, having caught that fleeting expression, quietly tensed his deep-set eyes.

“As you saw with the medicine bags—”

“…Yes.”

“Unless you specify just *one* thing, I’ll simply buy everything outright. It’s easier that way.”

“…!”

In other words: “I’ll just buy everything indiscriminately, assuming your needed item must be in there *somewhere*.”

Da Jung widened her already round eyes further, scrutinizing his face. Not a trace of jest remained on his dry, serious expression.

“I suppose I’ll need to contact someone capable of assisting with shopping.”

“Huh? At this hour?”

“They’ll be happy to receive my call.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because they’re currently at risk of being fired—due to lack of work.”

“…”

Whether it was arriving with both driver and secretary in tow, or living alone in a house larger than a school field—

Though astonishing, it always felt somehow natural. Different worlds, different lifestyles—that made sense. But this time, she simply couldn’t accept it as normal.

Not only was there a dedicated personal shopper, but he’d apparently never even *given* them an assignment before. Da Jung blinked blankly, her soul seemingly departed.

Interpreting her silence as consent, Tae Sang reached into his jacket’s inner pocket. Da Jung quickly sucked in a breath and blurted out,

“Clothes! I don’t have anything to change into!”

“Clothes…”

“Yes. But really—it’s fine. I can just… sleep as I am.”

Too embarrassed to explicitly say “in just my underwear,” Da Jung ended her sentence vaguely.

Tae Sang frowned slightly and stared intently at Da Jung, his gaze slowly traveling from her face down to her feet—as if mentally measuring her clothing size.

Inwardly, Da Jung winced. She’d asked him to stay only because she worried he’d be tired—not to treat him like a concierge.

At the very least, I should’ve carried my own bag. Regretting her passivity too late, she glared resentfully at the innocent trolley.

“Wait here a moment.”

“Oh, it’s really okay—”

Ignoring her protest, Tae Sang sharply turned and strode away, his brow faintly furrowed—as if mentally searching for suitable clothes.

Watching his receding back, Da Jung sighed softly.

To repay even a fraction of all this kindness, the only solution would be for Tae Sang to become destitute and move in with her family—but even in her next life, that seemed impossible.

She’d just have to serve customers well and contribute modestly to the company somehow. As she settled on this frustratingly naive conclusion, Tae Sang suddenly reentered the room.

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
