A Light Contract (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
“The progress you mentioned… here’s the report.”
Yura, who had been bowing respectfully, paused upon spotting Lee Hyun and then continued speaking. She had completely forgotten that she’d just seen him in the lobby moments ago.
He must have summoned her on purpose because Lee Hyun had arrived. Jin Ho seemed amused by the prospect of her meeting Baek Lee Hyun, yet she couldn’t fathom what exactly he found so entertaining.
Yura deliberately ignored his presence, not even glancing at him, and walked straight toward Baek Jin Ho. He accepted the documents she handed him and jerked his chin toward Lee Hyun, who was seated on the sofa.
“You two aren’t strangers—exchange greetings at least.”
“I already greeted the Vice President in the lobby earlier.”
Yura was treating Lee Hyun strictly as her superior, not as her older brother’s friend.
“Why are you two so stiff?”
“Because this is a workplace.”
Jin Ho shook his head slowly.
“Then I’ll be going.”
“Oh, Team Leader Jin, don’t go yet—how about joining us for lunch?”
“Eating with the CEO gives me indigestion.”
At Yura’s remark, a stifled chuckle escaped Lee Hyun. Without realizing it, Yura narrowed her eyes at him.
What exactly was so funny?
“How about eating with me, then?”
Stunned by Lee Hyun’s suggestion—which was just as absurd as Jin Ho’s—Yura’s mouth dropped open.
“What’s the difference between the CEO and the Vice President? Both make me uncomfortable equally, so I’ll pass.”
“Then just think of me as your oppa’s friend.”
Yura’s brow furrowed sharply. Since when had they become close enough to share a meal together?
“Weren’t we distant ever since I was basically kicked out of the house?”
“Not at all.”
“Yes, we were.”
For a moment, a tense silence filled the CEO’s office. Watching the two of them, Jin Ho quickly waved his hands to end the standoff.
“Take your bickering outside. I’m not eating with either of you.”
“I clearly said I’d decline.”
“Well, I can’t help it then.”
“Then please stay and enjoy yourself, Vice President Baek. Lee. Hyun.”
After clearly enunciating each syllable of his name with emphasis, Yura promptly stormed out. Lee Hyun responded with a faint upward curve of his lips.
Watching Lee Hyun, whose expression remained unchanged—as if her consistent reaction were perfectly familiar—Jin Ho asked,
“Why are you two squabbling like this? Can’t you just be friendly for once?”
“Beats me.”
“You clearly like her—why isn’t anything progressing?”
He couldn’t recall a single time they’d treated each other warmly. Jin Yoo Ra wasn’t exactly cold, but she seemed emotionally reserved.
If she showed any emotion at all, it was mostly looking down on her older brother with disappointment. Even that had faded now to mere polite distance—but at least, that was how Lee Hyun perceived Jin Yoo Ra.
He had no idea how she acted or behaved when he wasn’t around, or whether she ever showed her feelings openly. Yet, considering she’d been in a relationship before, he couldn’t help but think maybe she simply changed depending on who she was with.
It frustrated him to imagine that the person she’d opened up to had been that particular guy. Sighing, Lee Hyun set down his teacup as if shaking off pointless thoughts and stood up.
“Don’t concern yourself with it.”
“Won’t you have lunch together?”
Lee Hyun glanced at Jin Ho’s pitiful, pleading eyes looking up at him, then quickly turned his head away.
“Go eat with your sister-in-law.”
“Seems I can’t even get one person to share a meal with me. Ugh.”
Although Jin Ho whined like that, Lee Hyun knew full well he had plenty of people around who would gladly join him for lunch if he wanted. Ignoring Jin Ho’s uncharacteristic whining, Lee Hyun stepped out of the CEO’s office.
[This is the timeline separator]Lee Hyun gave a cursory nod in response to his secretaries’ greetings and chuckled softly upon seeing Yura standing in front of the elevator. It was amusing that this was where she’d ended up after trying so hard to slip away.
Though sensing his approach, she steadfastly refused to look at him and stepped into the elevator just as it arrived, her voice dry as she spoke.
“Are you getting in?”
Thus, an unintended standoff formed—Yura inside the elevator, Lee Hyun outside.
Lee Hyun found her constant pettiness toward him intriguing. The same woman who’d previously ignored him coldly and shown no emotion had, at some point, begun directing her sharp edges specifically at him.
When she bristled like a stray cat—eyes gleaming, fur standing on end—she looked less intimidating and more endearing. It made him want to provoke her even more, as if she knew how to throw a tantrum despite her station.

“Wasting electricity.”
Ignoring her invitation, Lee Hyun stepped calmly into the elevator anyway. A low click of her tongue echoed inside the quiet space—likely deliberately louder so he’d hear it.
They hadn’t been particularly close, but they hadn’t been this frosty either.
It probably started from that day.
The day he’d gone to verify the details of Yura’s employment.
“But…!”
Lee Hyun covered Jin Ho’s mouth with his hand. He’d overheard someone eavesdropping, and the sound of hurried footsteps retreating confirmed it. Seeing the figure dash away in a panic, Lee Hyun frowned.
Oh, she heard.
A loud slam of the front door followed shortly after.
“Huh? Who came by?”
“Someone left, not arrived.”
“What?”
With her temperament, she must have rushed over immediately to confront them—so why had she withdrawn so quietly?
He only understood the answer later, when he encountered Yura again.
Her choice wasn’t to confront him, but to establish perfect distance. Lee Hyun felt a strange kinship—seeing her act so much like himself—and at the same time, a quiet sense of satisfaction.
Leaning against the back of the elevator, Lee Hyun’s eyes fell on Yura’s neatly arranged, glossy hair.
Back in high school, she’d insisted on keeping her hair short, claiming she couldn’t manage long hair—but she’d started growing it out upon entering high school.
By the time she graduated university, it had reached her waist. Yet one day, without warning, she’d cut it all off into a bob—and had kept that style ever since.
Even after several years, Lee Hyun still hadn’t gotten used to her short hair. Almost absentmindedly, he reached out and touched a strand, checking its length just below her chin.
“Your hair… doesn’t suit you.”
Thwack. The moment his fingers touched her hair, she slapped his hand away sharply, then glared at him with a deeply furrowed brow.
“Don’t just touch me without permission.”
Lee Hyun hadn’t meant to—but realizing he’d done it as if entranced, he let out an awkward laugh.
“Do I still look like an elementary schooler to you, oppa? Why do you keep touching me without asking?”
Yeah… she’s really grown up.
Though her lips still moved in that familiar, chattering way, they now clearly held a man’s attention. Lee Hyun found himself staring silently at her lips.
He wanted to kiss those small, delicate lips.
“They are kind of small.”
“Tch. Guess you don’t realize you’re the one ignoring the average.”
He’d only stated an honest observation, yet she reacted as if he’d struck a nerve.
Maybe because he’d known her since she was little, he’d always thought of her as small—but he’d honestly never considered that perhaps he was just unusually tall.
In fact, the first time they’d met, he’d blurted out absentmindedly, “I didn’t know people this tiny existed in the world,” which had made her burst into tears in embarrassment.
Only now, triggered by this sudden memory, did Lee Hyun realize her height was a real insecurity for her.
Ding. As the cheerful mechanical tone signaled their arrival, she turned her head slightly—still clearly upset—and delivered a parting jab with sarcasm.
“Being too tall is gross, too.”
Yura abruptly turned and stepped out of the elevator. Her hair swayed gently, slipping through the narrowing gap of the closing elevator doors. Especially lustrous and smooth, her hair always shimmered like fine silk whenever the wind blew.
Back then, it wasn’t uncommon for boys to gaze at her, utterly spellbound. Just recalling it made Lee Hyun’s mood darken inexplicably, his brow tightening faintly.
“Well, better short than long.”
At least now, no strange men were giving her that kind of look.
[This is the timeline separator]Yura paused mid-step on her way back to her office. She always tried to stay composed—but facing Baek Lee Hyun made that incredibly difficult. His unreadable gaze and sarcastic tone seemed to ignite her fighting spirit.
She stood still for a moment, catching her breath as the heat of irritation refused to subside. With her senses so heightened, she worried she’d end up snapping at her team over nothing.
She didn’t want to take out her emotions on them, so she lingered—but the office suddenly felt unusually noisy.
“Why is it so chaotic in here?”
Just as she took a step forward, wondering what was going on, she bumped into Team Leader Jung.
“Team Leader.”
“What’s going on?”
“Well, the performer for the second-half concert came by personally to greet the planning team.”
Surprised by this unexpected visitor, Yura tilted her head in confusion. If someone came to pay respects, they’d usually go straight to the CEO—not visit the planning team first. And since the second-half concert hadn’t even been announced yet, the whole situation felt even more bizarre.
“Alone?”

“No, with their manager.”
“So who’s the performer?”
As Yura walked toward the office, asking her question, Team Leader Jung pointed to a man surrounded by staff.
“Over there—see him? That’s Pianist Oh Se Jin.”
“!”
Yura froze at Team Leader Jung’s words. Her stern expression softened as her gaze fixed on Pianist Oh Se Jin, who wore a gentle smile. His softly permed hair, naturally curled, gave him an even gentler and more mellow impression than before.
Aside from this minor stylistic change, he looked entirely unchanged—and Yura stood there like a statue waiting endlessly for someone’s return. From behind her, Jin Ho’s flustered voice rang out.
“J-Jin Team Leader…”
“President.”
Team Leader Jung, startled by Jin Ho’s sudden appearance, quickly bowed her head. Yura, meanwhile, stared sharply at Jin Ho with narrowed eyes.
Jin Ho, clearly caught off guard by this situation, stammered awkwardly as he hurried between the two of them.
“A-ah, um… I’ll explain later, okay?”
He then briskly entered the office, offering Oh Se Jin an uneasy smile as he extended his hand.
“Mr. Oh Se Jin, what brings you here without even letting us know…?”
“It’s been a while, President.”
Hearing Oh Se Jin’s greeting—which clearly indicated they weren’t meeting for the first time—Yura’s face drained of color. So all that secretive maneuvering had been for this.
Regardless of corporate hierarchy, he was technically her cousin’s husband—yet here he was, letting her down just like the saying: “You get your foot stepped on by the axe you trust.” Fury boiled within her.
“Why are you here instead of in the CEO’s office?”
“I wanted to meet and greet the people planning my concert first. That way, they’ll put more care into planning it.”
“Oh… right, of course.”
Clearly flustered, Jin Ho kept glancing sideways at Yura, gauging her reaction.
Yura couldn’t believe he’d create such a situation yet still feel the need to check her mood. If he were her younger cousin instead of her elder brother-in-law, she would’ve slapped him.
“Aren’t you going to introduce us?”
With the same clear, gentle smile as always, Oh Se Jin extended his hand toward Yura—as if they were meeting for the very first time.
“Pleased to meet you. I’m Oh Se Jin.”
