Your Sweet Breath (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
An unwanted memory came rushing back.
She never dreamed there’d come a day when she’d willingly recall this.
As if reliving yesterday’s events with vivid clarity, she squeezed her eyes shut and opened them again, rejecting the scene with her entire body.
He watched her silently for a moment before asking,
“Could it be that day?”
“……”
“Did that person say anything… strange?”
His words, pinpointing the very part that felt like it had probed her memory, made Kang freeze mid-motion.
At first, she’d thought there was no point dredging up the past—it was all over now.
The investigation had concluded thoroughly, and the criminal was already facing legal judgment.
But then a fleeting thought changed her mind: perhaps this horrifying memory was connected to her recurring dreams.
Maybe that was exactly why San had come to see her that day—to ask about it.
So she decided to answer his questions as honestly as she could.
“That day…”
She began haltingly, reaching into buried memories to recount what had happened.
After Kang’s role as “Mi Yeon” in the drama “Where Dawn Rests” became a hit, her schedule ballooned in proportion to her rising fame.
Commercials, interviews, and scripts poured in one after another.
She was so swamped she barely had time to breathe—doing practically everything except variety shows.
Then, one day,
she was returning from an out-of-town event she’d been invited to.
The incident occurred at a rest stop where she’d paused briefly to rest.
While her manager stepped away for a moment, the assailant seized the opportunity, jumped into the driver’s seat, and tried to kidnap her from the back.
The van, chased by police after the emergency call, finally screeched to a halt only after clipping a roadside tree.
Before the police could force the door open and pull him out, the man had already lunged into the back seat and started choking Kang.
Though it lasted only a split second, the terror felt like an eternity.
That was also when he uttered those incomprehensible words:
“You smell so delicious. Just one bite… please, just one bite.”
“Let… go…!”
“Just one bite, please, okay?”
“Ghhhk!”
Fortunately, she wasn’t seriously injured—but the psychological shock forced her to suspend all activities for a while.
The man arrested that day wasn’t mentally ill, nor was he under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Yet throughout his arrest, he babbled nonsensically to the officers like a man out of his mind:
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. You just smelled so good, I couldn’t help it…”
“What?”
“I was suffering.”
“……”
“Isn’t it cruel? To have delicious food right in front of you and only be allowed to smell it?”
“Oh come on! What even is this guy!”
After muttering like a lunatic, he suddenly seemed to regain his senses and began begging for mercy.
But CEO Hwang flew into an even greater rage than Kang herself, warning the man not to even dream of leniency.
To him, a signed actress was an asset—and this incident was no different from property damage, especially for someone so money-driven.
To make matters worse, Sam Young had been absent that day due to personal reasons.
The substitute manager who’d filled in was fired on the spot, and the CEO pinned the blame squarely on Sam Young, who hadn’t even been there.
For Sam Young, already disliked by the CEO, this incident cemented his standing as a pariah—and though Kang insisted it was just an accident, he couldn’t help but feel guilty for not being there to protect her.
Immediately afterward, the CEO hired a personal bodyguard for her.
That marked the beginning of bodyguards fleeing from her as if running for their lives—and the reason she eventually met San as her seventh bodyguard.
Though Kang appeared calm after finishing her story, she unconsciously wrapped her arms around her trembling shoulders.
San’s gaze followed every tiny movement she made.
“He said you smelled delicious?”
Trending
“Yes.”
The police had treated those words as sexual harassment.
And she felt exactly the same way.
After all, when someone tells another person they “smell delicious” and begs to “take just one bite,” it clearly wasn’t about actual food.
Even now, the image of him burying his nose in her neck, drooling like a rabid dog, remained crystal clear.
“This isn’t exactly pleasant conversation. If there’s nothing else you want to hear, let’s stop here.”
At Kang’s words, he nodded.
“Understood. I’ll take what you’ve shared into account.”
“There’s nothing to ‘take into account.’ That guy’s in prison now.”
Playing tough—
In contrast to her body’s honest reaction, her aloof reply made San smile faintly.
Then, gently patting her shoulder as if to comfort her, he said,
“You must be exhausted.”
“……”
“Get some sleep.”
At that, Kang frowned.
After making her recount that horrible incident she never wanted to remember, he was now telling her to sleep?
No way.
She absolutely refused to risk seeing that lunatic’s face again in her dreams.
After that incident, she’d already suffered terribly—nightmares haunting her every night for weeks.
“I’m fine. If I fall asleep now after talking so much, who knows what might show up in my dreams…”
“I’ll hold your hand.”
Taken aback by his sudden suggestion, she turned to stare at San.
“…What?”
He simply smiled and held out his palm, facing upward.
Sam Young, who’d been quiet until now, abruptly cut in after hearing this.
“There’s that old saying, right? If you sleep holding hands with someone strong-willed, even approaching ghosts will run away.”
When he chimed in, San gave his outstretched hand a slight wiggle—
as if urging her: What are you waiting for? Just take it.
“Just humor me and try it.”
“……”
“I won’t let anyone bother you—not people, not ghosts.”
That was the last thing she remembered.
Everything after that vanished as if snipped away by scissors.
And so, without even realizing it, she’d slipped into sleep as though fainting.
Some time later,
Kang’s eyes snapped open.
“…!”
A heavy silence hung in the air, so thick she couldn’t even exhale.
Everything around her was still. She lay in the car with the engine off, wrapped in a blanket she couldn’t recall being given.
So this means…
“What on earth just happened?”
She couldn’t believe she’d fallen asleep without even noticing.
“This can’t be real.”
No way. No way…
Bewildered, she muttered to herself again and again.
A strange warmth lingered in her hand—
as if someone had held it, maybe even interlaced their fingers tightly between hers.
Déjà vu.
She didn’t know how to make sense of this situation.

It was ironic: though she felt refreshed, the sudden absence of her nightly nightmares felt both unfamiliar and unnerving.
And this fear undoubtedly stemmed from—
“Did you sleep well?”
—the man right in front of her.
San watched her quietly, his voice calm, as Kang remained too stunned even to scream.
“You must have been tired. I tried waking you several times.”
“Where… are we?”
“The shop’s underground parking lot.”
His soft voice wrapped around her as warmly as the blanket she was under.
“You were sleeping so soundly, I thought I’d let you rest a bit longer.”
Kang, blinking her large eyes, swallowed hard before speaking.
“What about Sam Young oppa?”
“He went to buy sandwiches.”
“……”
“He’ll be back soon. We’ll leave together then.”
But then she felt weight on her arm sticking out from under the blanket.
Only now realizing his hand was resting on her arm, she brushed it off a bit too roughly.
He might’ve just been trying to wake her—but given the circumstances, she hadn’t even thought before reacting.
San simply stared at his hand suspended in midair.
Then slowly turned his gaze toward Kang.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“……”
“Otherwise, I can’t imagine why you’d be this cold to me.”
His face showed no trace of a smile.
Right. That made sense.
If Han San truly had nothing to do with her dreams,
then her prickly attitude from their very first day working together must have felt plenty confusing.
But in this moment, she was certain.
The man in her dreams, and the reason she hadn’t had nightmares this time—it was all because of *him*.
Realizing they were alone in the van, Kang asked,
“What exactly are you?”
“……”
“When it’s just the two of us, you can be honest, can’t you?”
At her persistent urging, he gave a soft, resigned laugh.
“I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean.”
“Don’t lie!”
Her voice rose in frustration.
She couldn’t bear this vague distance between them any longer.
“You kept appearing in my dreams, always saving me—and you protected me just now too.”
“……”
“I know it was all you.”
The already oppressive silence around them grew heavier.
Even the smallest sounds vanished, leaving only tension hanging in the air.
Kang grabbed San’s arm and asked,
“Tell me. My dreams—how did you do it?”
Her expression looked both demanding and desperately pleading.
For a long while, he offered no reply—just rubbing his temple wearily—before finally answering, as if reluctantly conceding,
“You slept well. Isn’t that enough?”
“……”
“Do you really need to know the reason to feel satisfied?”

Kang’s eyes widened in shock.
It felt like one second stretched into a whole year.
Her mouth stayed frozen, too stunned to close.
San watched her calmly for a moment, then let out a rueful chuckle.
With a sigh that sounded like resignation, he made a quiet confession:
“Yes. I ate it.”
“…What?”
“Your dream. It was delicious.”
His red, impish tongue traced his lips as if savoring a satisfying meal.
“Still don’t get it?”
San wiped his damp lips lightly with his thumb, slowly closing the distance between them.
“Remember what that man in prison said.”
At his words, the voice she’d tried so hard to suppress played back instantly:
“You smell so delicious. Just one bite… please, just one bite.”
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. You just smelled so good, I couldn’t help it…”
“Isn’t it cruel? To have delicious food right in front of you and only be allowed to smell it?”
Having violently dragged those memories to the surface, he finally revealed the truth:
“All of that was about your dream.”
A chill shot from her toes straight to the top of her head.
…So everything that man said was about my nightmares?
“He was after your life,”
San continued with an unbelievable revelation.
“A lowly wandering spirit for whom resisting hunger is harder than breaking taboos.”
“……”
“That was his true nature.”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
