Your Sweet Breath (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
Ban had even stopped fanning himself when San approached, wondering what was going on.
But as San stared intently at him while fanning, Ban soon met his gaze and moved his hand again.
The thin stacks of paper and files each held fluttered softly, creating little gusts of wind.
‘What on earth is going on here?’
Was this some kind of fan-off?
Kang couldn’t properly look at either man—the wind blowing from both sides stung her eyes.
The two kept their eyes locked on each other for quite some time.
San spoke first.
“I’ll handle this. You just focus on getting ready for the shoot, Writer.”
“Are you the new manager?”
“I’m a bodyguard.”
“Why would a bodyguard do something like this?”
“Then why would you, Writer?”
Ban, momentarily speechless, stared at him incredulously.
Then, after a brief chuckle, he continued,
“We’re close enough for that kind of thing.”
“Save your friendliness for off-duty hours. When working, just do your job.”
With just a few exchanged words, the atmosphere between the two men instantly turned icy.
“Hey, Team Leader Han.”
Unable to stand it any longer, Kang quietly called out to him—but San ignored her and pressed on.
“And you’re being overly touchy-feely while working. I’d suggest avoiding unnecessary physical contact.”
“…….”
“No matter how professional it might seem, too many eyes are watching.”
“Excuse me.”
“Given Seo Kang’s line of work, even the slightest contact with unrelated men can cause serious trouble. I’d appreciate your understanding.”
At this point, she was starting to wonder—was he a bodyguard, an agency rep… or maybe even a boyfriend?
But seeing San’s unwavering stance, Ban decided not to argue further.
Any reply would just spark a fight.
Silence fell between them, thick with sharp, unspoken tension.
The mood grew so heavy that even the makeup artist beside Kang froze solid.
Only then did she finally step in, speaking softly.
“You don’t need to fan me—I’ll manage on my own. Both of you, stop.”
But just then—
Sam Young appeared belatedly and declared solemnly,
“A real human being should know how to use tools.”
All eyes turned to him as he pulled out both hands from behind his back.
In each hand was a mini fan adorned with pink rabbit ears.
Sam Young pressed both buttons simultaneously, and the tiny fans whirred to life at full speed.
Wheeeeng!
The unexpectedly powerful gust—proof that small peppers can be the spiciest—sent both San’s and Ban’s hair flying.
Kang, utterly exasperated by this absurd situation, pressed her fingertips to her brow and sighed quietly.
At least thanks to Sam Young’s timely intervention, the sharp tension eased slightly.
He smiled gently, as if trying to smooth things over.
“I’ll hold the fans. The two of you just focus on your respective tasks.”
In other words: Bodyguard, guard. Photographer, take photos.
Only then did San and Ban return to their positions.
The shoot resumed.
“Turn your head just a little more to the left?”
Ban made the request, and Kang adjusted her angle slightly.
“Perfect. Now, I’ll just lower your finger a bit more.”
Trending
His index finger, which had been touching the end of her earring, slid a little lower toward her neck.
But seemingly unsatisfied with the angle, he stepped forward himself.
“Just tilt your head—no, downward.”
“Like this?”
“Yes. Keep your hand still.”
Ban lightly touched the tip of her chin with his thumb, then gently grasped her fingers to adjust her pose.
Yet perhaps because of the earlier commotion, Kang kept noticing San watching from afar.
She couldn’t clearly see his expression in the dim spot, away from the bright lights, but his earlier scolding—about keeping work and personal matters separate—kept replaying in her mind.
Not that she truly considered this a matter of mixing work with personal feelings.
Even though she knew San’s reaction had been excessive, she couldn’t help wondering if others might see it that way too.
He surely hadn’t acted without reason—but now it had tangled into work, and already her head ached.
Of course, Ban seemed completely unfazed.
He probably saw a mere bodyguard interfering in work as utterly beneath contempt.
Kang knew this whole situation was ridiculous, yet she couldn’t shake her anxiety.
Whatever his reasons, if San raised another complaint right now, the shoot would be ruined—and the fallout could be massive.
Thankfully, he seemed to realize that much and thankfully didn’t speak up again.
Though occasionally, Sam Young could be seen earnestly trying to coax him aside—and San himself just watched the scene intently, never even blinking.
After many twists and turns, the shoot finally wrapped up.
She felt utterly drained, as if every ounce of energy had been sucked out of her.
“Let’s grab a meal soon.”
“Sure. Got it.”
“Take care.”
That was why she couldn’t respond more warmly to Ban’s farewell.
He seemed to sense her exhaustion and sent her off with a suitably brief, polite goodbye.
Naturally, he exchanged nods with Sam Young, and though his eyes briefly met San’s, neither man showed any intention of greeting the other.
.
.
.
In the car on the way back,
the atmosphere felt oddly cold.
Sam Young kept glancing between Kang and San through the rearview mirror, trying to read the room.
No matter how many times he replayed the scene in his head, he still couldn’t understand why he was stuck rolling his eyes back and forth between two people acting like they’d just had a lovers’ quarrel.
Both kept their heads turned away, staring out their respective windows—until Kang finally spoke.
“You know you totally overreacted back there, right?”
“Overreacted to what?”
“Are you seriously asking?”
She turned her head sharply, her voice low but firm.
He slowly turned to look at her.
His sullen gaze perfectly mirrored the resentment simmering inside him.
…Honestly, this was beyond ridiculous. Who even had the right to be angry here?
She still couldn’t figure out what had bothered him so much.
“Don’t ever meddle in my work again.”
“…….”
“I might overlook other things, but I can’t tolerate interference when I’m working.”
Saying it aloud only made her angrier—but Sam Young was there, so she decided to leave it at that for now.
San looked like he wanted to say something, but ultimately stayed silent.
“Hey, you two.”
The car pulled into the underground parking lot, and Sam Young continued in a voice trembling like a goat’s,
“Once I drop you off, go straight home, okay? No fighting in the elevator, alright? Huh?”
“…….”

“…….”
“You’re both going to stay silent? Fine, then I won’t go home either. Should we all spend the night together, nice and cozy?”
Knowing full well he was capable of exactly that, Kang reluctantly replied.
“Don’t worry, just go. We’re not kids—we won’t fight like toddlers.”
Though she said that, her fists clenched tightly.
But he, blissfully unaware of her trembling hands, answered innocently,
“Really? So I can trust you and go, Oppa?”
Sam Young, reminding them they were practically family, gave them one last earnest warning before letting them off.
But the moment he disappeared from sight, the icy tension returned instantly.
As they waited for the elevator, Kang gave one final warning.
She felt she needed to make something absolutely clear to him, since he clearly didn’t get it.
“In real life, you just stick to your real-life job. You were hired as my bodyguard—that’s all you need to do.”
“I don’t get what you mean. I was just doing my job.”
“No.”
“…….”
“You totally crossed a line. You almost ruined the whole mood. Understand?”
“I was being polite about it.”
“Not even a little bit polite!”
If she’d been a more difficult writer, this could’ve blown up into a huge issue.
Just then, the elevator arrived and its doors slid open. She stepped in first.
San followed quietly behind.
Inside, he was silently organizing his thoughts.
He was struggling with how to explain that the people who had quietly planted seeds of misfortune in her life—turning it into a minefield—might actually be much closer than she thought.
The whole situation surrounding her was too tangled to explain logically, and since even he couldn’t predict everything, his mind kept circling how best to handle what had happened—and what might still come.
But more pressing than all that—
“…….”
Should he apologize first for nearly ruining the shoot?
San stood quietly leaning against the wall, arms crossed, rubbing his lower lip with his thumb.
His eyes were fixed on Kang’s back, which looked utterly furious.
The elevator numbers changed rapidly.
Finally, his unfiltered thoughts tumbled out before he could fully sort them.
“I was just worried.”
“…….”
“To you, everyone probably looks human—but not to me.”
At that, she—who’d stubbornly kept her eyes forward—turned to look back at him.
“What exactly were you worried about? That Ivan might turn into some demon? He’s just an ordinary person. He’s my friend. Do you even know how long we’ve known each other?”
“Doesn’t the longer you’ve known someone make it easier for them to do you harm?”
Kang let out an exasperated breath.
She tried hard to regain her composure.
“Fine. Let’s say, just as you claim, Ban is the one who ruined my life. Let’s even say he’s planning something terrible against me.”
“…….”
“Then it would’ve been your place to step in.”
“What good is stepping in after the damage is done?”
“You react fast—you saved someone falling from the rooftop. Why can’t you do the same here?”
She hadn’t meant to unfairly blame him, but her voice kept rising as she spoke.
As she pressed her aching temples, the elevator reached her floor.
And in her frustration, she blurted out,
“Just don’t come over today. I probably won’t even sleep anyway.”
With those words, Kang stepped out of the elevator first.
Without looking back, she vanished—and San could only stand there, watching her go.

His stomach growled, but knowing how irritated Seo Kang was, he dared not complain about going hungry all day.
When Kang got this angry, there was nothing he could do.
This strange feeling of being utterly powerless—of being the weaker one—was completely new to him.
The elevator doors stayed open, but San remained leaning against the wall, arms crossed, lost in thought.
How could he possibly calm Seo Kang down?
Being with her kept making him dwell on worries he’d never had before—
and never planned to have, ever again.
“Damn it.”
He dragged a large hand down his face and let out a heavy sigh.
But just then—
a vivid memory suddenly flashed through San’s mind.
Straightening his head, eyes alight with a sudden idea, he murmured softly,
“Right. That’s it.”
Confident now, San curved his lips into a knowing, satisfied smile.

The woman snatched his phone and hung up. Looking at his phone wallpaper, she awkwardly changed the subject: “An ancient painting, eh? It looks pretty good, it’s just that the person in the painting looks a bit like me.”
When he heard this, he sarcastically mocked her for being so delusional, completely unaware that, the person in front of him was the reincarnation of Wen Ru, the famous prime minister of Yuan Shun whom he most admired…
