Your Former Wife (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
Sung Jun’s memory drifted back to the wedding reception.
At that time, Han Kyung Construction’s CEO—and Sung Jun’s great-uncle—had congratulated the newlyweds and invited his wife to share a drink with him.
To outright offer alcohol to the bride—Sung Jun’s great-uncle, who had devoted his life to handling the Han Kyung family’s difficult affairs and possessed a bold, unrestrained personality, often expressed affection toward others in precisely this manner.
The fact that his great-uncle had offered her a drink practically meant his wife had passed the preliminary screening personally set by the great-uncle himself.
Still, even knowing this, it was unthinkable to let the exquisitely adorned bride become his great-uncle’s drinking companion on the once-in-a-lifetime day of her wedding.
The moment Sung Jun turned toward Seo Yeon to intercept her glass, she emptied the wineglass in one swift motion—before he could even stop her.
The guests, expecting her at most to merely touch her lips to the wine as a gesture, wore expressions of mild surprise, while the very person who’d offered the wine burst into hearty laughter.
Hearing that laughter, Sung Jun realized her single action had instantly won over his great-uncle.
After finishing the last drop in her glass, Seo Yeon now poured wine into the great-uncle’s glass—and Sung Jun couldn’t take his eyes off his wife as she did so.
‘Does she drink well?’
It was unexpected.
She looked so graceful and pure that one might assume she’d never tasted alcohol in her life.
He even wondered whether, perhaps, an unexpected drinking companion might emerge in his future.
Yet, precisely ten minutes later, noticing her cheeks flushed pink as intoxication set in, he realized his assumption had been utterly mistaken.
Seo Yeon, desperate not to reveal her drunkenness, clung fiercely to a smile, feigning perfect sobriety. After watching her for a moment, Sung Jun deliberately ignored her state, gently grasped her hand, and firmly steadied her to keep her from stumbling.
“Would you like another drink?”
Having completed his recollection, Sung Jun looked at his wife, who—bright-faced—was offering yet another round.
“Sure.”
“I’ll pour it for you.”
With a cheerful expression, Seo Yeon filled a clear glass with wine. After cautiously observing Sung Jun for a beat, she hesitantly spoke.
“Yesterday, I’m sorry. Upon reflection, I think I said something inappropriate. It must’ve seemed utterly absurd, right?”
Sung Jun’s gaze instantly sharpened.
Even now, recalling Seo Yeon’s words from yesterday stirred such displeasure he struggled to keep his expression neutral. What on earth had been going through her head to blurt out something so ridiculous—saying it was fine if he dated other women?
“Just knowing is enough.”
Yet Sung Jun had no intention of dredging up the matter again and spoiling the atmosphere, which had finally grown tender. At his reply, Seo Yeon sighed in relief.
“Thank you for leaving work early today. I wanted to have dinner with you.”
Seo Yeon glanced toward the wine bottle and asked,
“Can you still drink more?”
Instead of answering, Sung Jun poured wine into his own glass—causing her eyes to widen.
“Aren’t you worried you won’t be able to go to work tomorrow?”
Though it sounded like concern at first glance, closer reflection revealed she was subtly urging him to give up already—her mention of work and her watchful eyes were proof enough.
Apparently, after proposing the wager—where the loser grants the winner a wish—she was determined to win at all costs.
“I have no plans to get drunk before you do today.”
“You’re remarkably confident.”
“It’s confidence with good reason.”
“But I thought you disliked alcohol?”
“I don’t drink often, but that doesn’t mean I can’t.”
“So you’re absolutely set on winning?”
“You could say that.”
“Could it be because of the bet? Surely you’re not forcing yourself to drink something you dislike just because you refuse to lose to me?”
Once again, she provocatively suggested—ever so subtly—that surrendering might be the better choice. But Sung Jun wasn’t about to yield so easily to her wishes.
“If I thought I might lose, I wouldn’t play in the first place. I intend to win today too—no matter that it’s you.”
Slightly disappointed by his answer, Seo Yeon nonetheless responded without backing down.
“I’m sorry, but you’ve picked the wrong opponent, Mr. Sung Jun. I’m going to win this bet today.”
Win? What winning?
The moment she said it, her large eyes were already half-closed, and her pale cheeks had flushed pink—just as they had at the wedding reception.
Knowing her alcohol tolerance already, he normally would’ve done everything to stop her from drinking further.
But suddenly, he grew curious: where did such self-assurance come from? So for now, he decided simply to watch her actions quietly.
One glass turned into two, two into three—and before long, she’d already downed five.
“I…I’m not drunk yet…”
Trending
Oh dear.
Eventually, without Sung Jun even saying a word, Seo Yeon preemptively defended herself in a slow, slurred voice, insisting she was perfectly fine.
“Ah, really?”
Maintaining a blank expression, Sung Jun replied flatly.
“As you say. You truly look perfectly sober right now. You’re drinking extremely well.”
At that, Seo Yeon pouted and protested indignantly,
“But…why that face? You clearly don’t believe a word I’m saying, do you? I’m serious—I’m really not drunk yet…”
She was, in fact, thoroughly intoxicated.
Her voice, unusually high-pitched and insistent—something she’d never do sober—gave it away.
It should’ve annoyed him. He should’ve been irritated, thinking he’d wasted time…
So why did her stubborn insistence somehow seem…adorable?
…Damn it.
Frowning deeply, Sung Jun rubbed his brow, incredulous at the thoughts surfacing in his mind—
And at the fact his heart was racing against his own will. Hoping the stray thoughts would vanish if she simply disappeared from his sight, he turned his head away.
That was when—
“I’ll show you proof! Proof!”
Seo Yeon abruptly stood up.
What? Why’s she standing? What’s she doing now?
Though he’d just turned away, Sung Jun anxiously looked back at her.
She drew in a deep breath, then slowly opened her half-lidded, drowsy eyes wide.
Carefully, she began walking straight ahead.
Apparently, she intended to prove she wasn’t drunk by demonstrating she could walk in a straight line.
“…How strange. Why won’t this work? I’m really not drunk, you know.”
Though her body clearly refused to obey her will.
For a brief moment, Sung Jun turned his head, watching her in silent disbelief.
“Sung…Jun? Why are there two of you?”
And as Seo Yeon blurted out another absurdity and staggered off-balance, he rose from his seat—pulling her into his arms and whispering,
“You proposed the bet, you little drunkard. You lost.”
At that, Seo Yeon—drowsy and half-asleep—suddenly jolted awake. She tried pulling away from his embrace and shaking her head.
“No, no—I’m not drunk yet. I can still drink more.”
Annoyed by her stubbornness, Sung Jun clicked his tongue.
“Drink more? If you drink any further, you won’t even be able to get up tomorrow. It’s time for this drunkard to head to the bedroom.”
Seo Yeon frowned, clearly displeased with his words—but Sung Jun ignored her, locking eyes with her as he added,
“Can you walk? Ah—evidently not, judging by this state. I’ll take you to the bedroom.”
But Seo Yeon shook her head vigorously, obstinate as ever.
“No—I told you, I can still drink! I absolutely must win.”
She then wore an extremely troubled expression.
A sigh escaped Sung Jun at her stubborn display.
She absolutely had to win?
Just how extraordinary could her wish possibly be?
Though he hadn’t planned on losing to her, he suddenly found himself curious about what wish his wife might make.
“Alright, fine. I’m already drunk.”
Gazing intently into Seo Yeon’s eyes, Sung Jun added once more,
“I lost.”
It was the first time in his life he’d uttered those words. He intensely disliked losing—to anyone, under any circumstance.
He’d lived entirely by his own will, even forgoing convenient shortcuts just to avoid ever admitting defeat. Even in trivial games, once stakes were involved, he never yielded.
“Really?”
Yet, despite her flushed, intoxicated face, her eyes sparkled gleefully at hearing she’d won—and when she eagerly pressed for confirmation, he chuckled softly.
Seeing how happy she was, he thought: Well, why not? Sung Jun nodded and answered quietly,
“Yes. Really.”

Though she likely wouldn’t remember any of it, he answered earnestly anyway.
“Truly?”
“Truly.”
After securing Sung Jun’s affirmation two or three more times, Seo Yeon—though barely able to hold herself upright—in a clear, firm voice declared,
“Then, since I’ve won, I can state my wish, right?”
Incredibly thorough, even in her drunken state. Amused by her determination not to be taken advantage of anywhere, he nearly laughed.
Suppressing the pointless smile with a furrowed brow, Sung Jun stared expressionlessly at his wife for a moment—then slowly nodded.
“Yes. Go ahead and say it. I’ll grant anything.”
In truth, there was no reason he couldn’t. Whether she wished for a new car, a villa with a scenic view, or even an entire island—he had no wish in the world he couldn’t fulfill for her.
“I want to stay with you.”
“…!”
“We’re together now, my love.”
“…”
That was what he thought—right up until his wife dropped yet another impossible bombshell on him.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
