The year changed, and by the time Lunar New Year was nearly upon them, the renovation of the Pyeongchang-dong mansion was finally complete.

Originally, the Yeonsa-dong house belonged to Hye Sun’s maternal grandmother, while the Pyeongchang-dong mansion was her parents’ home and the house where she grew up—the true family home on her mother’s side. Thus, for Hye Sun, returning to the Pyeongchang-dong house was only natural, though it was also true that Ji Yeon Hwa and Kwon Yong Chul had occupied it for a long time.

Hence, it took quite a while to thoroughly erase all traces of those two and carry out the remodeling. Fortunately, some of her parents’ old furniture had been left stored in the warehouse, so they retrieved those pieces, repaired them, and rearranged them throughout the house, replacing everything else with brand-new furniture.

They also restored the house’s layout back to its original state and redid the garden—uprooting the flowers Ji Yeon Hwa had planted according to her taste and replanting trees—to bring it as close as possible to how it used to be. Only then did Hye Sun finally feel, “Now I’ve truly come home.”

Hye Sun had been staying at a hotel until then, and she moved in just in time before Lunar New Year, allowing the family to celebrate the holiday together warmly at the Pyeongchang-dong mansion.

On the morning of Lunar New Year’s Day, Seon Ah and Na Eun came together to perform sebae (traditional New Year’s bows).

“You’re here?”

Eun Seo, whose belly was beginning to show noticeably, went herself to open the gate. Seon Ah looked around the spacious garden in awe.

“Wow, thank goodness we managed to take this place back! Otherwise, I’d have lost sleep over how unfair it was.”

“Tell me about it.”

Hye Sun, who had been cooking tteokguk (rice cake soup) herself, came out to warmly greet the two.

“Seon Ah, come in quickly. Na Eun, you came too?”

“Yes, Auntie. I just came to do sebae and then I need to leave right away.”

Na Eun called Hye Sun “Auntie.” Although graduation hadn’t happened yet, Na Eun had already enrolled in an early prep class at her cram school starting in January and was studying fiercely, determined not to end up taking the college entrance exam for a third time.

Hye Sun always insisted that a woman should dream big, so of course she adored Na Eun for exactly this kind of attitude.
