It wasn’t just Kwon Seung Joo who was overwhelmed at year-end. Eun Seo was quite busy herself.

– I think I’ll be able to get home early today. Is there anything you’d like to eat?

About an hour before quitting time, she received a message from the landlord and confidently sent a reply.

– I’m sorry, but our department has a dinner gathering today. I’ll be late, so please don’t wait up—just go to sleep first.

It felt satisfying to throw back at him the very words she’d always heard from him. There was no reply afterward, but somehow she thought she heard a soft “tch” from the other end of the line, and Eun Seo giggled quietly.

Things had been fine up to that point, but the dinner gathering turned into a disaster.

Eun Seo didn’t handle alcohol well. Hadn’t she cried uncontrollably into Na Eun’s arms last time after drinking just half a bottle of soju?

Knowing her limits, she usually avoided drinking whenever possible, but tonight was the department’s year-end party, so declining drinks wasn’t easy—especially as the newest member of the team. She’d already turned down offers to drink only once or twice.

Because no new hires joined the Planning Team last year, Eun Seo and Seon Ah—hired the year before—were still the youngest members. And to make matters worse, Seon Ah was hospitalized, so Eun Seo ended up bearing the brunt alone.

Around 10 p.m., a message came through. When she checked, several missed calls had already piled up.

– Are you still at the dinner?

– Yeap

– When do you think it’ll end?

– Where are you?
