Seeing Jena cry with tears and snot streaming down her face, Ael thought it was fortunate that Calon had stepped aside.

Jena clung to Ael and cried for a long while, finally stopping only when her head began to ache from sobbing so hard.

“There, have you cried it all out now?”

“Don’t tease me! You have no idea how worried I’ve been, Miss! But more importantly, why are you so injured? Did that Baron Loitz do this to you? I really should’ve thrown a bigger rock when they dragged him away!”

“Dragged away?”

“Didn’t you know? He was arrested for insulting the royal family! They say he not only spoke rudely to the Second Prince but even drew a weapon and attacked him!”

“The Second Prince…?”

On the day she’d fled Baron Loitz and arrived at the Altvea mansion, she’d heard his voice from within Calon’s arms.

Back then, overwhelmed and barely conscious, she hadn’t cared whether he was royal blood or not—she’d simply collapsed into his embrace and lost awareness.

“They say all his property was confiscated, he received corporal punishment, and was sentenced to ten years of hard labor in a royal mine in the north. When he tried to escape, he was caught right at the viscount’s estate and dragged off. I was among the crowd throwing stones at him—I hit him right on the head! And not just once—I struck him three times!”

Jena proudly swung her arms around. Watching Jena chatter excitedly, Ael felt relieved.

‘I was so worried that day might leave her traumatized…’

Jena had just come of age, and after nearly experiencing something terrifying at night, Ael had feared it might haunt her memories and affect her deeply.

But seeing Jena now, it seemed she hadn’t been left with any such trauma after all.

“By the way, how have you been since that day? What happened to the viscount’s estate? And how did you end up here?”
