The place where Edric obtained grapes, braving a snowstorm on a midwinter night, was inside a food storage room at a dawn market.

He had to pay ten times the original price to get his hands on the grapes the owner had frozen for making jam.

Exhausted from the cold and lack of sleep, his fatigue vanished completely as he watched Melie devour three clusters in a row right where she sat.

It was the moment he felt more certain than ever that she was the woman carrying his child.

When Melie set aside the bare grape stems and reached for another plump, ripe bunch, he asked,

“Was it like this with Jade too?”

Melie lifted her gaze from the grapes.

“Huh?”

“I’m asking if you craved grapes when you were carrying Jade.”

Melie’s eyes finally curved like a crescent moon as she understood his meaning.

“No, not when I was with Jade.”

“Then what did you crave back then?”

Melie searched her memory and replied with a faint smile.

“Meat.”

At those words, Edric recalled where she had lived when she was pregnant with Jade.
