Morning sickness struck Melie as if determined to make up for its late arrival, overwhelming her relentlessly.

Melie leaned further out, gripping the windowsill to hear better.
“The herbs you intended to give Melie the other day because you thought she was carrying an unwanted pregnancy—can you obtain them now?”
Melie’s fingertips trembled for an instant.
It was as if a bucket of cold water had doused her, jolting her fully awake.
To Edric, the fetus—draining its host’s nutrients to grow—was no different from a malignant tumor.
