Melie entered Eda’s living room and said.

Her eyes were red with tiny blood vessels visible on the whites, as if she had been crying. But Eda pretended not to notice. That would make what was to come much easier.

‘Tell me, child.’

Eda said affectionately.

‘It seems he has no intention of maintaining our marriage.’

‘Why do you suddenly think that?’

‘Just… I got that feeling.’

‘What about you?’

Melie took a moment to steady her breathing, as if suppressing rising emotions, and continued.

‘I don’t want to live like this either. Still, if there’s a chance it could change through conversation, I thought I’d try one more time. So there are no regrets.’

‘No. Edric won’t change.’

‘I know that child well. He’s never once adjusted to anyone.’
