Eda’s furious shout echoed clearly from beyond the door, but it didn’t reach Edric’s ears at all.

His consciousness remained fixed solely on the pure white infant’s vest lying before his eyes.

‘I’m going to make clothes for the baby with this.’

One day, after she’d entered the stable phase of her pregnancy, Melie showed me a roll of unbleached muslin and said those words.

Her face at that moment had been brimming with joy.

‘Just imagine—this will be the very first garment the baby wears upon entering the world. Isn’t that incredible?’

She didn’t want to fail at making the baby’s first outfit, so she practiced again and again, enduring countless needle pricks. At that time, her fingers were always wrapped in bandages, and stray threads from her practice cloths clung to her clothes like barnacles.
