You And I Live In Different Worlds (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 15
“Let’s talk for a moment.”
Edric said in a cold voice. Melie nodded.
“Yes….”
He approached Melie. This time, he didn’t sit on the edge of the bed. Nor did he take the armchair.
Instead, he avoided the two places he usually sat and chose a backless stool.
Then, he turned his body toward Melie deliberately, making sure the armchair stayed out of his sight.
“Melie.”
Edric called her name with an authoritative tone.
“Tell me the truth.”
“……”
“Why was that man here?”
Melie felt secretly pleased.
‘He still doesn’t believe it. He doesn’t see me as a reckless woman.’
But even so, her answer remained unchanged.
‘He stole the diary I’d written with deep feelings for you. I only invited him in to get it back—that’s how this whole mess started.’
…She couldn’t possibly say that. To her, such an admission would be nearly as shameful as being branded a wanton woman.
“It’s just as I said earlier.”
“……”
“I was wandering the hallway, feeling stifled, and happened to meet him. We spoke briefly, and then I invited him into my room, and then….”
“Melie.”
Edric cut her off with an even colder voice.
“I haven’t known you for just a day or two.”
His icy gaze stole away the warmth of the sunlight streaming through the lattice window.
“As far as I can guess, everything you’ve said from the start is wrong.”
“……”
“He didn’t meet you in the corridor. He must have seen you lingering by the window. Curious, he came up to see you. That impulsive fool is absolutely capable of such a thing. If I’m mistaken about anything, just say so.”
Melie was left speechless by his uncannily accurate guess.
While she nervously chewed her lip, Edric crossed his legs and placed his clasped hands atop them.
It was the posture he always took when he was about to dig deeply into something.
“Did that man get something on you?”
Melie’s right thumbnail dug sharply into her opposite palm. She forced herself to answer calmly.
“W-what could possibly be like that?”
“……”
“He was just wandering around the house on a whim and happened to bump into me. We exchanged a few words, and then….”
“What words?”
Edric asked.
“What did you two talk about? Tell me, Melie.”
“……”
Just how foolish was she?
Melie bitterly regretted not anticipating such a question.
“It was… just….”
He wasn’t the kind of person she could brush off with a vague answer like “just everyday talk.” She needed a more concrete reason.
“Actually, it was because of you.”
A miraculously plausible excuse suddenly came to Melie’s mind.
“I wanted him to help me sort things out with Rosalyn.”
“……”
“A marriage should at least begin with trust, right? That’s why I brought him into the room—it wasn’t something to discuss in the hallway.”
After all, those words had really been exchanged. So it wasn’t a complete lie.
Melie saw Edric’s sharp eyes gradually soften.
He must have found her reason somewhat acceptable.

Relieved, Melie decided to clear up another misunderstanding while she had the chance. She pointed toward the armchair.
“And the reason I ended up with him over there….”
“You don’t need to explain that.”
Without even glancing at the armchair, Edric interrupted her.
“No, I want to say it.”
Uncharacteristically stubborn, Melie insisted.
She wanted to firmly assert her innocence while the opportunity presented itself.
“It wasn’t… what you think. It was all an accident. I stood up to say goodbye, but my ankle suddenly twisted….”
She briefly considered saying that Francis had spitefully acted that way because he disliked her advice, but decided against it.
If Edric questioned him further, there was no guarantee Francis wouldn’t spitefully reveal the diary incident.
“So I accidentally fell onto him before I knew it. I tried to get up right away, but couldn’t, so Prince Adel held my waist to help me….”
“Melie.”
His voice, now dangerously low, sliced through her clumsy excuse.
“I don’t want to hear the details.”
He pressed his fingertips to his temple, seemingly troubled.
His already sharp eyes now looked even fiercer.
“I understand what you’re trying to say. I’ll believe you.”
“……”
“But Melie, please don’t cause a scene like this again. If you had something to discuss with him, you should’ve done it outside. Bringing him into your private quarters so recklessly was highly inappropriate. I simply can’t believe someone as sensible as you would behave that way.”
Before being her friend, Edric was the head of a ducal house. Thus, he had every right to reprimand any member of his household for actions that risked causing discord.
Swallowing her resentment, Melie humbly accepted his bitter rebuke.
“I’m sorry… I won’t do it again.”
“Then rest.”
Edric uncrossed his legs and rose to his feet.
Though the chilling wind still emanated from his back as he turned away, it wasn’t as terrifying as before—she could almost reach out to him now.
Melie hurried after him and caught his arm.
“Edric.”
Edric, who had just placed his hand on the doorknob, looked down at her hand, then at her.
“What is it?”
“It’s just….”
Though she flinched slightly at his suddenly harsh expression, Melie gathered her courage and asked what was on her mind.
“Why did you come to my room earlier? Did you come because you got the note I sent?”
After a brief pause, Edric answered.
“Yes.”
Melie held her breath, waiting for his next words. Edric responded in a voice as cold as the surface of a winter lake covered in thin ice.
“I came to tell you I’d already forgotten you’d asked. To be honest….”
“……”
“That’s just absurd.”
His brutally direct words left Melie utterly bewildered.
It was like a thorn so thin and sharp it barely registered as pain—until it pierced deep.
“Oh… right, of course. I thought so too. That really was… absolutely ridiculous.”
Ha ha.
Melie laughed. For some reason, she felt she ought to laugh here, so she did—consciously.
But her body refused to lie.
Her hand, which had been clutching his arm, lost all strength and fell limply to her side.
Edric glanced at the spot where her hand had been, then turned and left without another word.
Click.
Only when she heard the lock engage did reality rush over her like a tidal wave.
‘That’s just absurd.’
‘No… he didn’t mean to hurt me.’

She tried to deny it, but it was useless.
The words had been too blunt, too cruel. And Edric had said them.
He had once confided in her about how much he secretly despised people he outwardly respected—now, with that same cruelty, he’d turned it on her.
Back then, she’d listened to his confessions with calm indifference, letting them flow in one ear and out the other. But now, she couldn’t do the same for herself.
She’d been criticized. And… she deserved it.
‘I asked him to make me his legal family.’
She wanted to turn back time. If she could, she’d rather die before uttering those words.
“……”
Melie pressed a hand to her chest.
The thorn, buried deep, finally began to sting.
Her vision blurred.
For a moment, her sight cleared as hot tears streamed down her cheeks—but the fog quickly returned. Soon, even those brief moments of clarity vanished.
It felt as if her tear ducts had broken.
[This is the timeline separator]Edric, striding firmly down the corridor, suddenly stopped in his tracks.
The fierce glint in his eyes slowly faded.
A voice of conscience echoed in his mind: *It’s not too late. Go back and apologize.*
He nearly turned around.
But then a memory resurfaced, halting him.
‘I accidentally fell onto him before I knew it. I tried to get up right away, but couldn’t, so Prince Adel held my waist to help me….’
His loosely clenched fist gradually tightened until the tendons stood out.
Even without Melie’s explanation, he knew exactly how Francis and she had been tangled together.
After all, his eyes weren’t merely for decoration.
Yet, he’d still been angered by Melie’s unnecessary, overly detailed account.
So he’d unintentionally spat out harsh words.
‘That’s just absurd.’
Truthfully, it wasn’t absurd at all. It wasn’t uncommon for someone living under another’s roof to eventually be formally adopted.
And even if it were absurd, he had the power to make it reasonable—if only he chose to.
But Edric didn’t turn back. He returned to his own quarters.
Even calming his own turmoil felt nearly impossible.
Come to think of it, this had been his state lately.
Like water leaking from a patched hole only to gush from another, just as he managed to suppress one chaos, another would immediately overwhelm him.
When he first saw Melie and that man embracing, Edric’s immediate thought had been: *Where did I leave my gun? Ah, in the cabinet of my study.*
At first, he’d assumed that scoundrel was trying to take advantage of Melie, whom he regarded like a younger sister—that’s why he’d felt murderous.
But even after regaining his composure and hearing Melie confirm it was a misunderstanding, the same thought kept returning… Apparently, the problem wasn’t Francis—it was Edric himself.
Because he didn’t see Melie as family.
Closing his eyes, Edric sighed as the wind blew in through the open window.
“Unbelievable. Melie, of all people.”
Melie Enwood—neither beautiful nor well-born, and utterly lacking in charm.
The more he thought about it, the more absurd it seemed, and all he could do was let out a bitter laugh.

Male lead is a Divorced Husband
She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.
After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.
She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.
But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…
Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”

Hopetyhope Chapter 16 — Paragraph 52“Let’s call off our engagement.”
I like how when it is related to Melie, he wants to do things right. Atleast it looks like that at this point. For himself he was ready to even marry a woman who has a paramour already.
