Is she out of her mind?
I stared at Dan-bal with dead, fishy eyes.

I barely managed to preserve my social standing.
‘That was close.’
On the way back to class,
I glanced behind me.
In the distance, the Three Great Boys were still surrounded by crowds.
‘Those damn Three Great Boys.’
I gritted my teeth as I climbed the stairs.
Yes, the Three Great Boys (3-Dae-Boy).
Not Four Heavenly Kings—Three Great Boys.
The main characters of this insane, chaotic novel.
‘Damn it.’
My simple life had just gotten very complicated.

Into a novel.

Indeed, the very first hidden-power loner I ever encountered was in a novel.

As you can tell from those straightforward titles, all these novels revolved around the “hidden-power loner” trope.
The plot usually went like this:
Long ago, there was a beautiful female lead from a wealthy family who was also skilled in fighting.
For some reason, she disguised herself as an outcast and attended school.
Despite hiding her true identity, she caught the attention of the delinquent male lead, and eventually, they fell in love.
And thus, a happy ending—or a sad one. The End.
‘Ranked #0 in the world, yet dressing as an outcast? What a waste of effort.’
…You might think that.
But there were actually serious reasons behind such behavior.
‘The most common reason was parental orders.’
Her parents made her wear the outcast disguise as punishment for causing too much trouble.
You might wonder what insane parents would do that… but surprisingly, it happened often in novel worlds.
‘The next most common reason was revenge—for family or friends.’
This usually stemmed from guilt.
She wanted to suffer the same pain herself as atonement, or something like that.
And the last reason was…
‘Just because she was bored.’
…Yep.
Only a madman would do that.
There were other reasons too, but none made much sense.
Though, that’s just how these novels were.
“Ah, I used to enjoy these kinds of stories.”
Lost in nostalgia, I searched for novels.
Keywords: #RankingNovel, #OutcastNovel.
Apparently, they were still quite popular—my search returned an unexpectedly large number of results.
Among them, I chose this one:
‘Seol Yu-hwa, Ranked #0 in the World, Disguised as an Outcast for Her Twin Sister?!’
The title already gave off ominous vibes, but in this genre, every novel was pretty much the same.
I started reading right away.
‘Hmm, it’s pure chaos.’
The plot was exactly as the title suggested.
Seol Yu-hwa, ranked #0 in the world, disguised herself as an outcast and attended school in place of her twin sister.
To elaborate:
Seol Yu-hwa had an identical twin sister named Seol Yu-bin.
Unlike her successful older sister, Yu-bin was bullied at school.
One day, unable to endure the harassment, Yu-bin committed suicide.
Only then did Yu-hwa learn her sister had been an outcast—and was devastated. She shed tears of regret and vowed,
“Yu-bin, I’ll avenge you.”
Thus, Seol Yu-hwa, ranked #0 in the world, began attending school disguised as her sister.
That was the novel’s beginning.
Aside from the female lead’s overpowered setting, it was an utterly ordinary story.
‘Well, even that setting wasn’t that unusual.’
It was true.
In novels from that era, bloodshed and deaths were commonplace. If both the female and male leads survived until the end, it was considered lucky.
That level of intensity… simply couldn’t be replicated in the 2020s.
Some even had endings where the male lead suddenly died in a car accident in the final chapter after laughing cheerfully until the very end, leaving the female lead alone.
Truly, an age of madness…
Anyway, I chose this novel for a reason.
It featured a character who shared my exact name.
‘Lee Ju-eun.’
This ‘Lee Ju-eun,’ my namesake, was a friend of the novel’s villainess, Yoo Hee-na.
Well, to be precise, not really a friend—more like a lackey.
You know the type—when the villainess bullies the female lead, they’re the ones chirping, “Yeah, totally!” in that annoying way.
That was exactly ‘Lee Ju-eun’s’ role.
‘Honestly, she’d be better off not appearing at all.’
Still, the reason I finished this novel was because I wanted to see how my namesake’s story ended.
Extras usually just vanished silently at some point. Would she appear again later?
Mocking my worries, the novel clearly showed ‘Lee Ju-eun’s’ fate.
Very clearly.
“How dare you accuse me of being a thief?”
Who said this to whom?
The answer: the female lead, Seol Yu-hwa, said it to ‘Lee Ju-eun.’
Yes. This bold extra actually tried to frame the female lead as a thief—and got caught!
‘She’s insane.’
Normally, Seol Yu-hwa never revealed her true identity, no matter how much she was bullied.
But this “false theft accusation” must have crossed a line—she finally snapped and revealed her true self.
This was the so-called “satisfying” scene.
“You better prepare to regret messing with me today.”
Thus, ‘Lee Ju-eun’ got thoroughly beaten by Seol Yu-hwa, ranked #0 in the world.
The result: eight weeks of hospitalization, forced transfer, and permanent disappearance from the novel.
A very clean ending.
I let out a hollow laugh at my namesake’s fate.
“Seriously, what did she even have to lose to pull a stunt like that?”
It was utterly ridiculous.
Sure, it was pitiful that ‘Lee Ju-eun’ ended up hospitalized for eight weeks—but she could’ve just lived decently from the start.
Who told her to bully others anyway?
“Sigh… karma’s a bitch.”
I clicked my tongue and put down my phone.
Glancing at the clock, I realized it was already 2 a.m. I’d been so absorbed I hadn’t noticed how much time had passed.
I’d finished the novel and confirmed ‘Lee Ju-eun’s’ ending—no regrets left. I decided to go to sleep.
‘What a chaotic story…’
Mulling over the novel one last time, I slowly closed my eyes.
And when I opened them again,
“……?”
I had become ‘Lee Ju-eun.’
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
