A fireball hurled toward Embly’s knights grazed Anton’s head threateningly. It was no ordinary flame.
“My lord, are you all right?”
“It’s magic. Capture the mage first.”
It was difficult to identify the enemy’s location in the darkness. Anton strained to grasp the situation as best he could. Naturally, they couldn’t be mere bandits—no sane group of thieves would dare attack a party escorted by armed knights.
Arrows rained down once more, slicing through the air with a whistling sound. The knights hurriedly raised their shields.

There was no need to ponder long over who they were.

At Anton’s shout, the knights surged forward.
The mage attempted to flee but was caught within a few steps by the knights. Anton walked over to inspect the mage’s face closely.
“How dare you attack Embly? Did you truly believe you’d walk away unharmed?”
“It is you, Archduke, who should cease this foolishness. Maximilian himself is a calamity. To shield him—his seed must surely be eradicated from this world!”
“Seed?”
