“He’s burning with fever again today. The physician says it’s from accumulated exhaustion, but what can we do?”

Emily looked as distressed as if her own father had collapsed—but she wasn’t the only one. Every maid in Abrams Manor felt as though their own hearts had been pierced by a knife at the sight of Rosenblu’s illness.

They’d expected him to recover and get back on his feet within a day or two, yet by the third day, Rosenblu’s fever still hadn’t broken.

“When exactly do you plan to leave? The funeral’s already over.”

“I still have things left to do. Besides, how can I just leave while Lord Rosenblu is bedridden like that?”

Cordelia offered all sorts of excuses in response to Beluce’s urging. Truthfully, it wasn’t because she worried about Rosenblu lying sick in bed—it was because she hadn’t yet received a reply to the letter she’d sent to Atirai.

She felt cowardly, but only once that letter arrived could Cordelia leave for Yebodelim with peace of mind.

From early morning, Cordelia avoided Beluce, who kept pressing her about when they’d depart for the capital, and headed toward Rosenblu’s room.

Even in broad daylight, he remained in bed. Up close, his complexion looked far worse than when she’d first seen him.

“Oh, Lydia… Lydia…”

Pitifully, even in his dreams, he seemed to be searching for his younger sister.

Cordelia sent the maids away and wiped his body with a damp cloth. Having cared for Craig before, this was familiar work she could do even blindfolded.
